The Start of Pokémon Horizons Chapter 5: Mega Voltage! After the one year timeskip... things look grim... but it's time to get the truth about the Rising Volt Tacklers back from the Explorers and these four episodes were all amazing! Ult or Uruto (as the official romanization is) has made a decent impression as well! Liko, Roy, Dot all have grown in their own ways and it's nice to see that. As I have told you before... Episode 90 and 91 aired together as a one-hour special on April 11th. In that... they were also cut together to remove the 90 recap at the beginning of 91 and the episode specific credits were listed combined as well as the title of the whole episode just being "To The Skies Once More" without the Part 1 and 2. Episode 90: - 2:17: I mean... even having Mega Evolution at all in this series is at the core a Legends ZA promotion. And the Mega Bracelets do match with the design seen in the trailers for Legends ZA. - 9:53: Taikaiden now knows Electro Ball (more direct translation in Japanese is now Electric Ball and... it is even known that the English Electro Ball just came from character limits for the move names). - 11:37: A lot of people complain about the Mega Stone for Pokémon just coming in floating in front of them or put into play in other ways when they mega evolve since the SM series (in Journeys, the old XY characters are excluded from that) and not in beautiful accessories like in the XY(Z) anime. I personally don't really mind though. - 12:39: Hell Thrust is Throat Chop. - 13:02: Destroyer Beam is Hyper Beam, yes. - 13:34: Infight is Close Combat, yes. - 14:10: Hyper Beam has been depicted as somewhat pink normally in previous series as well, but here it should be like orange coded normally. - 15:32: Of course, but a timeskip in its very essence should have these questions about the "how certain developments within the characters happened" for at least a little while. - 16:23: Roy's voice has also changed quite a bit and... especially the deep and raw sound of it during his Mega Evolution chant is crazy. - 18:03: Some people wanted Anne's Samurott to be a Hisuian one, but I suppose a normal one does suffice too. - 18:34: Yes, in her school uniform, it's mostly Liko's hair which is longer and of course the now clipped hair pin. - 18:37: "The weather is great again today." - Oh Liko... something like that in your situation is one way to avert your attention away from the traumatic experience you had at Rakua... - 19:23: I find it interesting that there is a concept of select teams for schools in regards to Pokémon battles in this universe... whilst select teams are a normal thing for RL sports... for me, it does remind me a bit of Girls und Panzer due to having watched that recently. - 19:28: The first two episodes have guest VAs in form of the hosts of Pokémon Variety show Pokédoko... so if you notice that some VAs sound less professional... it is due to that. And all of them voice Sekiei Academy students such as one of them in that shot. (The three hosts are Hikaru Takahashi (I think she voiced one of the female students here), Ryogo Matsumaru (also a professional quiz creator and involved in the production of the first Horizons ED song, the RVR Rap for its lyrics) as well as comedian Abareru-kun.) - 21:26: I think the line "Spinnin'-'n'-grooving'!" is actually also new for Gurumin post timeskip. - 23:30: Exactly... trauma brought character regression into Liko in terms of also monologing more in her mind. - 23:35: It does make sense that the Kekking at the beginning would be located in Hoenn, so this report probably referred to that. - 26:12: Oh yeah, right, the second of the Preview you saw... - 28:03: Guiding Waves is how Aura is literally described in the subs (hadou in Japanese). In-between the episode segments, a fun fact: Roy's new Yellow Lucario is voiced by Taku Yashiro... **FRIEDE'S VA**. That has made a lot of memes already... even people jokingly suggesting that Friede might have reincarnated into Lucario. Episode 91: - 32:24: Oh yeah, forgot to mention... Anne's design changed slightly too. Her flowers on her head are now in full bloom instead of still closed like pre timeskip. - 32:39: To be honest, I find it insane that we're even getting remotely suggestive talk in that scene with the other students even thinking the totally wrong thing. - 36:05: "Be careful what you say there, Roy." - Except Roy just mentioned that he was apart of the Rising Volt Tacklers moments before those two came in and they heard it as you could tell by their expressions at him. - 36:54: Besides, he did have his Rakurium spheres even back then... which were still filled with Rakurium mist. - 40:09: Because Roy accidentally say it out loud whilst they were in proximity to hear it. - 41:50: The guy with the glasses there is also one of the students voiced by one of the Pokédoko hosts. - 42:24: People are overall very mixed on Roy and Lucario doing this with the Aura due to it being very similar in execution as with Ash and Lucario in Journeys. I don't mind personally. - 47:02: Liko's Masquernya already knows Sucker Punch (Surprise Attack in Japanese). - 47:47: It is Area Zero music from the games after all. - 51:05: Yeah, exactly overheard. - 53:01: Did you mean the chapter back and forward hotkey with Page Up and Page Down there? On the OP again: - 54:11: One can see the Exceed company logo in the background during that sakuga sequence, so yeah, it's an Exceed battlefield. - 56:01: Can the power of the many experiencing the true nature of the Rising Volt Tacklers help them get back the future and truth as well as their personal utopia? - 1:04:01: New episode title card! Episode 92: - 1:06:59: We already saw an Earthworm before in episode 39 (Dot catches Kanuchan), so not like we're gonna focus on it again, right? - 1:11:57: It is presumed that the move there was Smack Down... making Taikaiden vulnerable to Ground type moves. - 1:14:55: Yeah, the color of Shiny Lucario to Shiny Mega Lucario does change even in the games. - Some are suggesting that Amethio and Friede might be together whereever they are... - 1:26:57: Some people believe that Pagogo reawakened too quickly in terms of the amount of episodes we as a viewers didn't see it. - 1:27:16: Well... the OP basically makes it obvious that Spinel doesn't have Rayquaza. - 1:27:36: Yeah, Ult's presence makes Roy's new found maturity stand out more due to having a more childish character like Ult who basically is more like Roy before the timeskip. Episode 93: - 1:32:36 / 1:52:47: Nyabiko is voiced by 幸村恵理 (Eri Yukimura) and she did an amazing job with a very crazy high-pitched voice. - 1:37:21: In other words than "hate-mobbed", cancelled would also work as a technical translation option there as I heard from the subbers. - 1:39:52: Yeah, a Gaogaen using Fire type moves coming from the belt is something seen in previous series' as well. - 1:42:32: Perhaps we're not gonna reveal any new Megas... but it may very well be the case that this chapter goes up to around the time when ZA releases, so then perhaps? - 1:44:42: Very consciously bringing out all Pokémon... can very well be seen as directly listening to viewer feedback about the show since people have been wanting to see more of the non main Pokémon for the longest time in it... especially Tebrim and Taikaiden. We've seen them all in all episodes of Mega Voltage so far! - 1:45:55: If you didn't notice, the song Roy and Achigator are singing is the one we got introduced to in episode 62 (Roy vs Ryme rematch). - 1:49:06: It is very much possible that the OP scene shows many many one-off characters we're gonna see in future episodes to develop both the cast and Pokémon as well as slowly getting the trust and truth about the Rising Volt Tacklers back that way. - 1:53:15: And you're not the only one who really really really liked her. There's even LOADS of fanart of her online already! People are being as much of an oshi for her as she is with Gurumin and that includes myself because I really love all of her... design wise and personality wise. **Episode Staffs:** Episode 90-92 as the introduction phase of the chapter and the characters post timeskip... were all written by series composition head writer 佐藤大 (Dai Satō) who previously wrote the Geeta battle (episode 79). Episode 93 was written by series script coordinator 松澤くれは (Kureha Matsuzawa) who previously wrote the scripts of the entire Rakua story climax (episode 82, 83, 85-89). Episode 90: - Storyboarded by standard storyboarder 尼野浩正 (Hiromasa Amano) who previously storyboarded episode 87 (Part 1 of the Chapter 4 climax). - Directed by 森山愛弓 (Ayumi Moriyama) who previously storyboarded and directed by episode 83 (Amethio's Resolve). - Animation-directed by: 柳原好貴 (Koki/Yoshitaka Yanagihara) - previously AD on episode 86 (RVT vs Explorers battle at Rakua) 大西雅也 (Masaya Ōnishi) - previously AD on episode 88 (Zygarde battle) 中矢利子 (Toshiko Nakaya) - previously AD on episode 86 服部奈津美 (Natsumi Hattori) - previously AD on episode 89 (the escape from Rakua) 新岡浩美 (Hiromi Niioka) - previously AD on episode 79 忍田雄介 (Yusuke Oshida) - previously AD episode 88 - This is a major in-house episode of course. Though... it coming so close after the last one in episode 88 limits the options of action animation a fair bit though presumably Oshida for Roy and Makoto Ando for Ult were pulled to animate their respective Mega Shinka BANK animations. A lot of the episode was also key animated by the newly trained animators of OLM Thailand - which still is almost exclusively working on the Pokémon anime at this point. Episode 91: - Storyboarded by 小林一三 (Ichizō Kobayashi). - Directed by 大井将経 (Masatune Ōi). - Animation-directed by: 北島勇樹 (Yūki Kitajima) - previously on episode 79 Those two are presumably working for subcontracting studio Lu Laforte. 仲金 (Jin Zhong) 季亜晨 (Ya Chen Ji) WUXI HUAXIAN ANIMATION PRODUCTION (a Chinese Studio) XiaoTong (WUXI HUAXIAN ANIMATION PRODUCTION) LuQingYun (WUXI HUAXIAN ANIMATION PRODUCTION) LaoNiu (WUXI HUAXIAN ANIMATION PRODUCTION) Luv Letter Studios (a Western American studio) Kennedy Freeman (Luv Letter Studios) Federico Iglesias (Luv Letter Studios) Imani Brown (Luv Letter Studios) UEC Uncredited (a Japanese subcontracting studio) Park Song Hwa (UEC) Park Ji yun (UEC) Heo Jae young (UEC) Kim Jeong woo (UEC) 晴れやか (Hareyaka) (also a Japanese subcontracting studio) 樫内乃恵子 (Noeko Kashiuchi) (Hareyaka) - This episode's production coordination was outsourced to Japanese subcontracting animation studio ホットライン (HOTLINE). - This guest outsource setup comes from a different OLM production line in OLM Team Masuda and the anime BEYBLADE X and is in its nature relatively weak animation-wise though it was actually fine for me personally and even surpassed my personal animation expectations for such an episode. - The storyboarder has worked on BEYBLADE X episodes outsourced to them too and the director as well (the latter even working for HOTLINE directly). Episode 92: - Storyboarded and directed by 浅田裕二 (Yūji Asada). - Animation-directed by 岩根雅明 (Masaaki Iwane) and 志村泉 (Izumi Shimura) (Shimura previously AD on episode 88). - This is the next Masaaki Iwane Solo Key Animation episode outsourced to as per usual こくぴっと (Cockpit) after previously episode 82 (vs the Black Rayquaza) and Iwane's small Key Animation cut appearance in episode 88. - That of course also explains the good animation you saw. Episode 93: - Storyboarded by default storyboarder 尼野浩正 (Hiromasa Amano) again just like episode 90 previously. - Directed by 植田千湖 (Chiko Ueda), a former more or less action animator turned director and storyboarder who also storyboards and directs a lot of the animated short scenes in previously Friede's Pokémon Seminar as well as now Mega Gurumin's Mega Mega Evolution and debuts here as an Episode Director for a regular episode after having been the Assistant Episode Director for episode 51 (Nyarote's spiky fur and jealousy), episode 58 (the Kingambit episode) and episode 75 (the big Rakua backstory). - Animation-directed by: 忍田雄介 (Yusuke Oshida) - series main action animator and previously AD on episode 90 阿部俊成 (Toshinari Abe) - previously AD on episode 88 高星佑平 (Yūhei Takaboshi) - previously AD on episode 88 新岡浩美 (Hiromi Niioka) - previously AD on episode 90 花井柚都子 (Yutsuko Hanai) - animation director debut after having been a constant key animator on the show and also animating the majority of the animation on the Pokémon Seminars and Mega Gurumin's Mega Mega Evolution! Chuckle Mouse Studio Uncredited Mixemirai (Chuckle Mouse Studio) - previously known as Jasmeen... she originally worked as In-Between Animator for OLM Asia (on anime including Pokémon Sun and Moon and Journeys) until graduating and starting to work for Malaysian studio Chuckle Mouse Studio... and has worked on several Pokémon Horizons episodes as key animator under Chuckle Mouse Studio before. Prommee Saksit - previously under OLM Asia and now under OLM Thailand, this Thai animator trains newbie animators at OLM Thailand! Has previously been animation director on episode 51 and 58. Sato - it is completely unclear who this is ル ラフォート (Lu Laforte) - a Japanese subcontracting studio which has been sometimes working on partial animation tasks for individual episodes えりある (A-Real) - a Japanese subcontracting studio which very very regularly works on the show for several partial animation tasks. Has previously been AD as the studio on episode 89 and as outsource partner on episode 44 (the plan to capture Rayquaza - the Chapter 2 climax) X10 - a subcontracting animation studio which has very recently started to work on partial animation tasks on other anime and debuts here for the Pokémon anime - This is a minor in-house episode per say in production... but a lot of the key animation was done by a combination of OLM Asia, OLM Thailand as well as Chuckle Mouse Studio animators. It's a good way to get some time down the line for bigger in-house episodes to come again without having quality down too much.
