The absolute best part of Durarara is that EVERYTHING is one long continuous story. The main characters aren’t any of the characters, it’s the city itself. This is a story of a city with dozens of characters, none of which any more or less important than the others. Everything about this show wants to sell you on this idea. There is one long continuous story happening and the viewer is only ever getting one piece of it at a time. It’s also why the OP gimmick hits so damn hard every single time. Every OP is going to start, introduce you to the cast one by one, throw a recap mid song to get you sucked back into the current events, and then swing back into the song to keep the hype going. It’s such a unique gimmick and perfectly encapsulates what makes Durarara so unique. It’s not flawless, but it’s so unbelievably one of a kind.
