erka and lyr in the mess hall, massaging sore shoulders, looking tired, dawn.
E: who knew the leader of a Sparrow flock would be such a slave-driver?
L: who knew we’d be dumb enough to agree to be his lackeys
E: wasn’t much of a choice from where i was standin - agree, or be thrown in a box somewhere and forgotten.
L: he said we’re meant to be making up for farrah being missing by doing her work…but do you really think she was tailing Doves like this? (why are the sparrows even interested in the doves??) wouldn’t she want to stay far away for them after they did whatever punishment they did to her? it seems like she was working for everyone - when did she sleep -
E: revenge is a strong motivator.
L: no kidding - is that - Reamer?
(sees reamer walking by in hallway)
E: speaking of tailing and revenge…that Resistance you want to work for would probably be interested in what he’s up to.
L: (groans, standing) looks like the stalking isnt over for tonight then. let’s go.
(following him)
E: i think it’s been a while since he’s attended classes…d’you think he has too many absences that’ll affect his graduation and that’s why he’s here?
L: you think that would ever apply to HIM? please. it…looks like he’s heading to the director’s office -
kerwik steps in way, arms crossed, tired.
K: WHY did i see you two in the city the other night, flying with two fugatives?
(L+E look at each other. shove k into cleaning closet)
K: what the f -
E: hold STILL -
(cable tie her hands behind her back)
L: we dont know what youre talking about
K: you literally just shoved me into a broom closet -
E: because you dont know what you’re talking about. you didnt see shit.
K: why were you there in Murder territory? why were you with them?
(L+E look at each other, annoyed)
E: this…is gonna be a pain in the ass.
reameer walking hallway, head spinning.
R: (thinks) (your father is no longer on this island. he…disagreed with the measures the government here was taking, he was weak, and he decided to seek power elsewhere. he left this Island before you hatched and never looked back, the coward. he is nothing, and you don’t need to think about him ever again.) of course im going to think about him, mother. i havent stopped since.
reamer entering mother’s office.
R: you summoned me, mother.
D: why was i just informed that your wife joined you on your trip to the prison facility? Explain. now.
R: (sweating) she…blindside me.
D: why did you not have her arrested? You were in a prison surrounded by guards.
R: for what - leaving me at the alter? what kind of man would that make me?
D: havent you been chasing her since because you suspected she ran off with the osprey chick and a murder boss?
R:...there was no proof of it. i’ve since learned the osprey chick may have run off with her brother, anyway.
D: Tiraa and the Boss of the BlackAsh Murder were spotted leaving the City two nights ago.
R: (eyes widen) what -
D: this is where compassion gets you, son. being made a fool of.
R: (looks at mother’s brooch, comparing it to cyras’ neck tattoo) don’t worry, mother. i wont make that mistake again. sorry tiraa…it looks like i can’t leave you alone, after all.
tiraa and cyras in res cave, cyras with his back turned to her. she compares how he clutches at his neck when stressed like she used to.
T:...why did you send the other crows to kill other avians? if you werent from the island and didnt subscribe to the Murder traditions here so knew they were bullshit…why did you still do it?
C: …(hateful) sometimes the existence of the tradition itself if more important to the culture than the act of it. i needed them to accept me in order to save them, i only had them go after the worst society had to offer, but it doesnt matter how i try to justify it, and who was I to make the judgement in the first place?
T: you did what you had -
C: no, tiraa, i didnt have to do any of this. there were other ways, i couldve tried harder at convincing the High Crow to rescue them. selfishly, i thought i could do it all by myself, and my selfishness got them all killed, anyway. it was all for nothing, in the end. i made it all worse.
T: im sure you -
C: stop. please…just stop.
