There's some cultural things that'll be missed by anyone not living in Britain in the 90s unfortunately. When Jim says the line about having ginger balls, you can hear the TV is playing TFI Friday hosted by Chris Evans who was indeed a millionaire but still had ginger bollocks.

Being a longtime fan who grew up in a lower-middle class home in southern England, it's always irritated me when professional northerners try to gatekeep The Royle Family. It does move slowly, and it's very dry, but in that respect it's one of the most accurate depictions of the humdrum and melancholy of working and lower-middle class life up and down Britain and beyond in the nineties and early noughties. I hope you persist with it because the writing is genuinely brilliant.
