Chill out bro there's Irish flags everywhere and he's American, it's not that deep. You don't need to do homework everytime you watch a TV show

I'd love to chime in now and then and have a conversation about it. Where I live it's about a 45 minute flight to Northern Ireland. Bit longer to Ireland. Grew up with some Northern Irish people and worked with lots. I'm working my way through the show, so you might have learned more already as I'm still only on this episode.

I thought you read up on it dude? You keep saying Father Ted is in Ireland too. This is in Northern Ireland. They're different countries, one is UK and one isn't. Even later on at the parade bit "why are they parading through Ireland?" they're not in Ireland. You guys would've been screwed over there back then.

A knickerbocker glory is, contain ice cream, cream, fruit, and meringue. Layers of these different sweet tastes are alternated in a tall glass and topped with different kinds of syrup, nuts, whipped cream and often a cherry.[2] The existence of these layers, which create red and white stripes, distinguishes the dish from a tall sundae and lends the knickerbocker glory its name.[3]

The Orange Order parades, also known as "The Twelfth" or "Orangemen's Day," are annual events held in Northern Ireland on July 12th, commemorating the Protestant victory at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, where William of Orange defeated King James II. and to march through a Catholic area is to rub their noses in it. And by the way I don't belive in god.

Punt is Gaelic for the Irish pound as we have different currency and she had two purses one with northern Irish sterling and the Irish pound for when she went over the boarder. We used to have gas stations with a tank that was 50/50 on the boarder and you would fill up and pay on which ever side was best…

That might be the case, but I know some Rangers supporters who fall outside the stereotype. Ie they're not royalist, are ABE, and some support independence. It's just a team to them. I wouldn't know I've never been big into football, myself.

To the best of my knowledge, no, they've overwhelmingly unpopular.
Only something like 14% support the "right" to march, let alone support the "cause" itself.
That's based on a large survey done ten years ago. It's likely even lower now.

I agree with the preference of the longer pauses that are more spaced out.

I personally prefer the same (longer anecdotes spaced out) as one of the main reasons for me to watch these channels is to get a funny or just different insight into life in general. Some of the Boomers' pauses have been a bit too frequent for me recently (especially right in the middle of a joke), but at the same time it's part of what makes their videos really genuine, and I wouldn't want them to reign that in. It's a tricky one!

Id be curious what percentage of listeners like when they pause more than normal and which like fewer interruptions. I, personally, prefer less interruptions but longer anecdotes compared to constant pauses and short little comments. But not sure if I’m in the majority or minority

British shows, especially comedies, tend to be 6 episodes per season/series. Derry Girls has 3 series total, 6 episodes each

Punt is the Irish Pound. So she had a "Sterling Purse" for the pound Sterling (British Pound) and a punt purse for when she crossed the border.

'Fenian' is a word I wasn't aware of until I watched this show but it is essential to know its meaning if you are to understand this show. It is a derogatory term used by Protestants/Unionists towards Catholics/Republicans. I'm English Australian so feel free to correct me anyone if I'm wrong.

I love you guys and I look forward to your videos (particularly Derry Girls, in which the King & Queen get together) … but man did you pause a lot on this one! It started getting kind of distracting when it was being paused every few seconds.
Just a bit of constructive feedback. 😀

Derry man here, the punt purse was Irish money before the Euros. Derry is literally on the border, a 5 minute drive. So every house in the day had a purse of punts for when you crossed the border, usually when you went to the beach, 15 or 20 minutes away. Though that would involve going through a British army checkpoint, everyone out of the car, the car searched, everyone questioned, and the same coming back home

Hi KB, I was the same when first watching Derry Girls in terms of not knowing much about what happened. The girl who played Michelle actually made a documentary about some of it called “The Real Derry:Jamie Lee O Donnell” which might be useful to watch if you can find it. It originally aired on Channel 4 here in the UK 😊

I love how your nostalgia for pre sat nav times references having to print out maps on the computer, as opposed to us real Boomers who had to use a shop bought big arse map, that takes an hour to fold back up like an insane origami puzzle.

They’re crossing the border into the Republic for the day. Orange Order have been known to be not very kind to Irish Catholic
The ‘punt’ is the old currency of the Republic of Ireland - that’s why they didn’t know what side was heads on the coin at the end

The Knickerbocker Glory is a fancy and popular ice cream in Britain. Which, ironically, was invented in the US, in the early 19th century, but fell out of fashion there.
Kind of like how the popular A.1. sauce in the US was invented in the UK, but no longer sold here.
