Garth Marenghi's Darkplace S1 Ep2 "Hell Hath Fury" REACTION!

Richard Ayoade + a shotgun = gold.

Garth Marenghi's Darkplace S1 Ep2 "Hell Hath Fury" REACTION!

Comments

😂

Jason Scade

Toast of London is the closest thing to this show and has Matt Berry in it.

Ben

The lost tapes / muppetry seen here is a big part of the YouTube series ‘Italian Spider-Man’ and the later series by same prod. crew ‘Danger 5’

Albanacher

QB doing a DR shakamoto impression wasn’t on my Sunday bingo card but it cheered me up 🤣

Erica

Doctors with guns, like a mini army wtf! lmao

Dave Bond

You chose wisely!

Phil Robinson

Yes, this is hilarious - what have we done? I love it.

Phil Robinson

An amazing thing about this show is the amount of effort they put into making the Darkplace segments genuinely 80s-bad. Apparently the chief sound technician (?) had a bunch of the audio put onto magnetic tape, unspooled it, kicked it around the floor a bit and then wound it back into the canister, just to make sure the sound quality is really inconsistent. <3

Martin Clarkson

I’ve been waiting for you to react to this for so long.

Adam Druett

OK, so every episode has a 3 minute intro? Blimey.

Joe Thornhill

I absolutely love that you go around saying "big city rike Reeds"

Jonathan Charles

Good shout, I'd go maybe something like Tim and Eric's awesome show

Mark Durkan

And the Chris O'Dowd ep in Vienna

Jessica Dalton-Morgan

Second this I was going to recommend the same thing

Doug

I just realised "Moss's" office makes no sense. His window to outside is where that screaming doctor runs around the corner to use the payphone. It's like the Overlook Hotel!

Starlight

if you want surrealism, 'the mighty Boosh' is up there. total muppetry.

Fenn

Can't wait already for you to see episode 6

Scott sage

Wait until you see the "Apes of Wrath" episode, it's the best one. When are you doing "Toast of London" it's the bomb.

Jimmy Graham

I love this episode as a satire of old school sexism. It’s really clever whilst being blunt as a sledgehammer.

Spoingus

I’m to high for this mupperty 😂

Adam

If it's off the scale muppetry you want then it has to be House Of Fools. It's Bob Mortimer, Vic Reeves and Matt Berry in their own off the wall sitcom. It makes Dark Place look like Little House On The Prairie. You may need medical assistance and an oxygen mask.

Andy Williams

Makes me proud hearing QB saying you walk around the house saying BIG city rike reeds. Also loved flight of the concords not British, New Zealand. I'd recommend it 👌

bdazzer85

Agreed, it’s one of those shows where if you take it too serious you miss the mark. It’s a shit business.

Owen Rhodes

Queen Shakamoto NAILED it

Dextrous (Lewis)

from what I have seen closest to this kind of thing in the States is probably it's always sunny in Philadelphia, that goes to some proper random places and at times reminds me of vic and bob type humour

Dave L

For me, definitely the closest in terms of purposely bad but somehow brilliant acting. And over the top direction & editing! Haven't watched it in a long time but my memories of Police Squad are great!

AdamMcAdamface

I nearly moved to Reeds once, I organised a day of property viewings but every house had a padlocked metal gate in front of the front door which put me off so I moved to Brighton instead!

Mark Jones

I'd love to see a full reaction of Shooting Stars, Boomer loved the clip he reacted to.

Mark Jones

Actually, Arrested Development really is completely fecking mental!!! 🤣

Mark Jones

2 American shows which I think are batshyte crazy are 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' and 'Arrested Development', they're both pretty out there, in there own unique American way, but I think they're both brilliant, just to throw some love back over the pond!

Mark Jones

It's on his radar as he reacted to a couple of clips, I'd love to see a full reaction too.

Mark Jones

On the DVD they did commentary for every episode in character as Garth Marenghi / Dean Learner / Todd Rivers, which, frankly, is fucking great

Alex P

The show aired in the US on Adult Swim and there are definitely other American shows they have commsioned that match or even exceed the same level of off the wall parody/satire or surrealism. "Delocated" was one such show and is one of my favourites of all time. "Flight of the Conchords" was actually an HBO produced show written by the New Zealand comedy music duo but before that it was a UK radio show and Rob Brydon narrated it.

RA Keogh

Holness did also co-write and create the show, including the original stage version

RA Keogh

I was gonna suggest Travel Man too, it's really good.

QueenKennaofStormholt

Carefully crafted muppetry man, they've put so much effort into it being authenticly terrible, great show, glad Ur enjoying it.

Dan Smith

The American show that I think comes closest to this (and it's not that similar really) is the 1980s comedy show "Soap" with a young Billy Crystal amongst others

Yaapsdad

Man to man with Dean Learner is essential viewing after Darkplace. Then Snuffbox, mighty Boosh & Toast of London.

Stuart

That proves you're special

Alan

KB I see you have a picture of Richard Aoyade above your bathroom door.

Rob G

QB, the writer of this show is Richard Ayoade AKA Moss. And the main actor in this Matthew Holness

Mouse

It’s a Channel 4 show if that helps you find it.

Paul Cole

If Queen Boomer loves Richard Ayoade so much, you guys should watch Travel Man. Every episode he goes on a 2-Day city break with a different comedian or actor. It’s a really fun watch and he did 9 seasons before Joe Lycett took over from him. 2 notable episodes are the ones with Bob Mortimer in Hamburg (season 8), and Greg Davies in Moscow (season 2). But in fairness they’re all good and all his companions are always great value. It’s something a bit different and I’d really like to watch both you guys react to that.

Paul Cole

Flight of the Conchords was made by the same group of New Zealanders who made What We Do in the Shadows. It was first made for BBC Radio then bought by HBO for TV. Taiki Waititi was too busy to appear but he was involved and directed some episodes.

Stephen Morris

The dinner medal completes the look.

Pat Chapman

Haha. What I'd have given to overhear Larry's conversation with his agent afterwards...

Henry Graham

Larry Hagman approves of this.

Pat Chapman

It is indeed a weird-ass Show. For slightly disturbing, weird comedy but in a different style I suppose 'The League of Gentlemen' would be something Americans would be freaked out and puzzled by

Fordy7169

You guys should check out the show Green Wing, another hospital comedy with complete muppetry in it starring an incredible cast full of people you would definitely know! Add it to the list KB, you and the queen will not be disappointed!

Tim Ward

I think if you guys can get full episodes of Vic & Bob's Shooting Stars, I think you and QB would really enjoy them. One of the funniest shows the BBC has ever commissioned, I reckon.

Henry Graham

Conchords are Kiwis.

Z is for Zed

That's actually amazing because I'm eating eclairs as we speak. 😂

QueenKennaofStormholt

Congrats! Have a bun. They're fresh you know.

Phil Robinson

Recommend watching the 'documentary' they made, its called Horrificata Illuminata and you can find it on YouTube. They also did a fake chat show called 'Man to Man with Dean Learner', it's good fun.

QueenKennaofStormholt

I have. It's great. But that was 2009, at least 5 years after Darkplace.

Phil Robinson

I go big city rike reeds!! Buzzing that that's a thing for you now haha

Reece Brown

I shouldn't be surprised... but I am. How quickly you've both keyed into this, and are loving it - well, it's making my month. It's not for everyone - which is why although you clearly had fun with the first episode, was wondering whether EP2 would still have the same impact - seems I needn't have been concerned. Feel that there was almost a record set there with KB "chair evacuations". Hmm. At least he didn't trap his finger in the door this time! I bloody hate January/February so its great to have this to look forward to!

Phil Robinson

Btw, I'm digging the jacket, KB.

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

Yes, snap! Just said the same. Please everyone vote this up to get them tonreqct to it next. They'll totally wet themselves laughing.

Tim Phillipson

Guys, you'd absolutely love "the house of fools" with vic and bob, it also has matt berry in it. Its actually more muppetry than this. You'll both seriously love it. Definitely one for QB. Please please please please please 🙏

Tim Phillipson

Closest thing to this is probably the mighty boosh. Both of them are in this and Richard Ayoede and Matt Berry play some characters in the boosh. It's surreal like dark place but not deliberately bad! Also Police Squad with Leslie Neilson is similar

Richard Stokes

Yep but it makes sense at the same time for some weird reason... Love that show.

BigChanChan

Oh also Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid

Jamie

Police Squad! was good at this stuff

Jamie

Sonofabitch

Jamie

There is a Vic, Bob and Matt Berry sitcom called House of Fools just as crazy

Nathan Daly

Ever seen Black Dynamite?
