IN THE LOOP (2009) MOVIE REACTION!

So much fun from start to finish!

IN THE LOOP (2009) MOVIE REACTION!

Comments

The guy who plays Jamie is also in the first season of Slow Horses - great drama about spies starring Gary Oldman which is definitely worth watching. And it was written by Will Smith (Peter Mannion's posh boy assistant Phil)

Rhi

I love this film, but I can't lie it does make me incredibly sad - the ongoing genocide in Palestine is just another example of all this BS, US and UK governments doing whatever they can to justify the horrors we're contributing to there. Just sickening

Sam Sargent

It's a real shame that James Gandolfini passed away, I thought he was great in The Sopranos and he like everyone is brilliant in this masterpiece!

Oliver Chapman

Utopia is a great shout. Like a mix of the The Thick Of It and UK office. Living in Australia and working in the construction industry building Govt infrastructure projects, I can confirm its spot on!

Gil Johnston

I tried looking Claire up but I still don't know if you mean a character in 'Thick of it' or a real politician.

Joe Thornhill

Maybe try Utopia it’s a Australian show what is definitely a good watch if you liked the thick of it

Adam

Amongst all the brilliant jokes, the most cutting line in the whole film is at the end when Malcolm says to Simon: 'I will marshal all the media forces of darkness to hound you to an assisted suicide'. This was a reference to the suicide of weapons expert David Kelly, who was named as the source for a BBC report claiming that the case for the war in Iraq were being exaggerated. This was the darkest time of Tony Blair's career, and a hugely controversial thing for his spin doctor Alistair Campbell, the guy Malcolm Tucker is largely based on. It's all the same story - a dodgy, sexed-up dossier to make the case for war on false pretensions. On a lighter note, Jesse Armstrong, one of the key men behind In the Loop, went on to make Succession and David Rasche is in that too. He's not as hilarious as Linton Barwick, but he still plays a great character in the show.

Richie

I think it's the same woman who plays Claire Balantyne.

Neal Murdoch

She was also the girl in My Girl. My first crush lol

Joe Blakeley

The American guy (Linton Barwick) you really liked is David Rasche from the US police comedy Sledgehammer from the 80s, good series

bobsonian

Lots of people from Veep in this too

Kevin Liversage

I thought the new Minister at the end was Celia Imrie or something.

Joe Thornhill

To be honest. If the title doesn't have 'Thick of it' in any orientation within it, I'd imagine it's probably not in the same universe.

Joe Thornhill

James Gandolfini vs Peter Capaldi is like the scene in Heat where Pacino and De Niro meet

Spoingus

"at the end of a war you need some soldiers left, otherwise it looks like you've lost" 🤣

Sam Popplestone

Anna Chlumsky goes on to play the terrifically uptight chief of staff in Veep.

Neal Murdoch

Absolute shitfest of a movie, no one should see that

Spoingus

Great film

Reece Brown

Tom Hollander is so good at playing a politician who has principles but no backbone! And good to see James Gandolfini and Peter Capaldi square up, proper heavyweight menacing insults! (Gandolfini won it on a points decision).

AdamMcAdamface

How the hell are you so good with real actors' names but don't remember their characters? That has to be the worlds shitiest superpower, worse than diarrheic man, the man who literally shits on everyone as he flies over.

Geraint Harrison

Ssshhhh

Mark Fraser

Resign over the war vs Fired over the wall. Love it

Sam Popplestone

Nothing to see here

David Lyons

Paul Casey

Washington DC is a really cool place, it’s unlike any other US city. There’s no skyscrapers for a start. One of my favourite things was sitting on the steps at the Lincoln Memorial late at night when nobody was around. It feels really safe and peaceful. That was back in the days when blowjobs in the Oval Office were the biggest political story. Different times.

Julian T

It's the same universe. Just with different characters and played by the same actors as The Thick of It

Chris

Jamie and Malcolm discussing There Will Be Blood is f'ing amazing

Curse These Metal Hands!

The guy that plays Olly in The thick of it, plays Toby in in the loop. They aren’t the same character. They are different universes with Malcolm being pretty much the only crossover character

James Liosi

If you get the chance, the deleted scenes for this movie are a treat - especially the deleted Jamie scenes.

Alex West

That’s Toby ya muppet not Olly!

Luke Barton

Awesome, I wasn’t expecting this until after The Thick of it. Just got to the “they should know each other” part. We’ve been telling you for months that some of the actors play different characters 😎

Julian T

This movie rules. I happened to randomly see it when it came out, in the theater, and immediately fell in love with all of Armando Iannucci's works.

Russ

Great reaction, and agree that the scene with Malcolm Tucker and James Gandolfini's General character is one of the best things in this movie, especially as the General is the only one that is able to go head to head with Tucker and (arguably) beat him.

Jay

A lot of Jamie's scenes were cut from the movie. I definitely recommend looking up those deleted scenes at some point.

Seltro1

yay, Chad, Zach Woods from Silicon Valley too.

emu cat

I was about to say this alternative universe etc but I get why it would be confusing years later

Stephen Brindley

Thank you. Not sure why I said people. So funny!

Tim Phillipson

I enjoyed the info about the Washington Monument earthquake. I'll be using that as trivia in pubs going forward.

Ben Crowley

Potato men* not people, underrated for sure

Caine

Yes, the actor playing Linton is American. According to google, he's from Illinois.

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

i’m also aware that’s why you’re called boomer, and that’s also why i’m here 👍😂

Dom Pearson

if you pay attention you’ll notice it’s a different universe 😂😂 oliver has a brand new name and so does glenn haha

Dom Pearson

Ha! Knew you couldn't resist! Will watch this later tonight. If you enjoy this - you'll enjoy Veep.

Duncan Hart

As said when we confirmed you could watch In The Loop it’s stand alone, it’s an alternate universe essentially - Chris Addison is playing a character called Toby in this, in the Thick of It he’s Ollie… they don’t know each other. Same as ‘Glen’ is a different character in this. That’s why they show the character names for those that know the Thick of It. Had hoped you’d twigged that before going into this but hopefully it becomes clear as you go Edit: it did, thankfully 😀

Kieran B

Well, this is an unexpected treat. I haven't seen this since the cinema release but I'll look forward to revisiting it this weekend!

Henry Graham

You gitta watch Sex lives of the potato men with jonny Vegas.

Tim Phillipson

Awesome film haha

Tim Phillipson

Thanks for the free movie reaction.
