MCU- CH-227. Powers like Superman but not the noble, godlike quantities
Added 2024-11-21 02:44:57 +0000 UTCHowever, these words were all lies. The secrets of SHIELD were not well-kept; its interior was riddled with vulnerabilities.
Although Hydra had disappeared, it didn't mean they were entirely eradicated. Hydra was one of the most resilient villain organizations in existence.
Unbeknownst to anyone, Captain America's former nemesis, the Red Skull, was preparing to return from the cosmos.
After Alexander Pierce succeeded him as the Soul Messenger, Red Skull found a way to escape Vormir and went into exile in the universe. Using his sinister possession abilities, he established an even more formidable interstellar Hydra organization. Yet, he still longed for Earth and was biding his time to return.
Neither Nick Fury nor SHIELD's operatives, even Hydra's own undercover agents within SHIELD, had any inkling of this impending threat. Everything awaited Red Skull's return to deliver a "surprise."
Meanwhile, after hearing Coulson's proposal, Reynolds gave it serious thought and decided he could trust him.
"Remember your promise. If Lindy gets hurt in the slightest, I won't hold back." Reynolds stated firmly.
"Of course. Welcome aboard, Mr. Reynolds. Now, I wonder—what heroic title would you like to give yourself?"
With the deal sealed, Coulson inquired about Reynolds' code name. After all, every superhero needed a unique alias.
"Sentry. The guardian who watches for the dawn!"
Reynolds didn't hesitate and chose "Sentry" as his code name.
"Alright, Mr. Sentry. When would you be available? I'd like to introduce you to your future teammates." Coulson said with a relieved smile.
"I don't think that's necessary—they're already here." Reynolds replied, his eyes glimmering with a golden light as he gazed outside.
Startled, Coulson hurried out to explain the situation to Captain America and the others to avoid any misunderstandings or conflicts.
Seeing that Coulson was safe, Captain America and the team relaxed. After hearing about the new recruit, they were pleased. A powerful ally was better than a potential foe.
However, Hulk wasn't as thrilled. Still harboring resentment from his previous defeat, he scowled silently. But with Bruce Banner's internal restraint, no further incidents occurred.
The addition of Sentry gave Nick Fury another powerful asset. The communicator left behind by Carol Danvers was no longer his sole trump card.
During Sentry's subsequent power tests, everyone at the base was left speechless.
Under normal conditions, Sentry's strength exceeded one million tons, yet this wasn't his limit—it was the maximum capacity of the experimental equipment.
His speed easily surpassed a thousand times the speed of sound, but again, this was far from his upper limit.
His body was impervious to any known weapon, and even the faintest energy leak from him surpassed the yield of humanity's most destructive bombs.
Sentry also possessed hypersensitive senses, immense mental strength, the ability to absorb solar radiation for power, and golden energy beams from his eyes.
And yet, because he was newly empowered, it was unclear how many abilities Sentry truly possessed, some of which even he was unaware of.
Nick Fury stared at the test report in his hand, unable to speak for a long time.
Sentry was the ultimate hexagonal warrior—without any apparent weaknesses.
But the mental health evaluation painted a different picture.
The psychiatrist noted, "This is someone who appears strong but harbors a deep-seated cowardice. A dark side he fears to confront lurks within. If not guided properly, he may develop a destructive personality."
Coulson once remarked that Sentry's costume paid homage to the comic-book hero Superman. Yet, while Sentry mirrored Superman's strength, he lacked the noble, godlike qualities of the fictional hero.
Before gaining his powers, Reynolds had been a drug addict. Though, like Superman, he deeply loved a woman—his wife, Lindy.
But how much of his heart truly belonged to her?
Nick Fury sighed, "Is it really a good thing for Earth to possess such power?"
He stopped contemplating how Sentry, as a hero, could protect Earth. Instead, his thoughts turned dark, 'What happens if Sentry loses control? Who can stop him?'
Sentry's immense power, if harnessed correctly, could greatly benefit Earth. But mishandled, it could bring unparalleled devastation.
More troublingly, they hadn't confirmed whether the serum that created Sentry could replicate his abilities in others.
To address this, Fury invited Professor Corny Eris, the serum's creator, to their base.
They secured the formula and prepared new batches of the serum, though no tests had been conducted yet.
"But should these test results be reported to the Security Council?"
Fury hesitated. If certain short-sighted politicians gained access to these reports, the consequences could be catastrophic—especially given the weapon of mass destruction that was Sentry.
Ultimately, Fury destroyed the original reports and made all involved personnel sign strict confidentiality agreements. Two revised and heavily abridged reports were submitted to the Security Council.
Thus, Sentry officially debuted as a new member of SHIELD's elite commando unit.
Dubbed "Golden Superman" by the public due to his costume and powers, Sentry basked in the admiration. He reveled in the role of a superhero.
But as time passed, Sentry found himself craving the serum that had granted him his powers. A gnawing addiction slowly consumed his mind.
Despite his efforts to suppress it, his abnormal behavior did not escape Fury's attention.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Fury implemented methods to help Sentry break free from his dependence on the serum. However, Sentry's struggle was only beginning.
