I do hope you take a look at AniNews' cut content video for lotm, it doesn't contain any spoiler, only recap the eps to lets you know what's the production team decide to cut from the novel when it transition to the anime.

It is changing things around and rearranging things for a limited runtime, and a more visual style of storytelling. It seems to be hitting all the important notes, even if the rhythm and the order changes around a bit. The chibi shorts and the mysticism classes are part of the animated show's production, so I count them as part of the adaptation. And since I think the animation is its own thing, I don't think knowing about the cut content is necessary. It should be enjoyable on its own, without the extra stuff from the book. I think the extra stuff is nice to have, for those who are interested in it, but on the other hand, those who're that interested might end up wanting to read the novel instead. I think this is a wonderful adaptation, even though it isn't perfect, but I think I'll personally be looking for people reacting to the show itself, not to meta-stuff adjacent to the show.
