The Narwhals come from the prequal spinoff. The third movie was already out by this point and introduced things that are going to be coming into the standard show. This includes a GIANT and controversial retcon for Sandy.

2024-11-05 07:46:56 +0000 UTCI did accept an exception to the "Patchy never meets SpongeBob" rule with the 20th anniversary special, but this one was really pushing it. I do however like that Santa has become somewhat more of a recurring character after this version's first appearance in the stop motion special.
