The End of DBZA
Added 2020-02-06 18:01:01 +0000 UTCHey folks. Scott (Kaiser) here.
There's been a lot of talk the last year about what the future of DragonBall Z Abridged is, and while we've tried to update people, we've failed at making things crystal clear to everyone.
We're planning on a full video talking about it, but we want to make sure that we can give you the full rundown, now that we've made our final decisions.
We currently have no plans on continuing with the Buu Saga, in the our original style, or in the style of the ShortZ, at this time.
Recently, we publicly announced that DBZA will not continue via the original footage ala our classic method of Abridging. However, we talked publicly about possibly moving forward with the Buu Saga via the same animation provided in the ShortZ.
Unfortunately, after serious deliberation, we currently find this process untenable.
For those of you with questions, I'm going to try to address them here:
"You guys promised Season 4 of DBZA. Why did this change?"
Several factors.
1. The ending of the Cell Saga gave us a sense of finality that is impossible for us to escape. We put our hearts and souls into making that finale stand out, and everything we've worked on with the original footage since has left us feeling hollow. This is a distinctly personal reason, but it's also incredibly important. Many shows lose steam as time goes on as the creators extend their work far beyond its natural lifespan; we're feeling that with this, and that's a scary, depressing thought.
We don't want to end up like The Simpsons, Dexter, Scrubs M.D., just to name a few.
And yes, we know, there's more story to work with. But in all honesty... there just isn't the emotional attachment and passion for the arc that drove the last three seasons. This is another, very personal reason, but it's unavoidable.
We do not enjoy tearing down and mocking the things we love. We want to celebrate them, expand on them, explore them, and sometimes make light of their shortcomings. That's what gave you the best of DBZA up until now, and ultimately, we find ourselves at odds with that approach and the majority of the Buu Saga.
2. We're burned out on the original method, in general. It's been an absolute blast to bring DBZA to life, but after 11 years of the same project... it's gotten oppressive. Which, again, is a scary thought.
I love DBZA, more than anyone on the planet. Not because it gave me this job, not because it helped pay the bills, not because it got me invited to conventions.
Because it made me a better person. A better writer, a better director, a better actor, a better editor, a better worker. I learned so much while working on DBZA, and I got to express my love for comedy, drama, and DragonBall to the world. Anyone who's seen me talk live about the finale of 60 has seen me coming to tears when talking about how proud I was to show it to everyone, and how overwhelmed I was to hear such a positive response. Just how happy I was to be able to share something I worked on with all my heart with all of you guys.
The idea that we could come to resent the series by forcing ourselves to work on it past the point where we feel artistically fulfilled? That's awful. And I honestly hope you all can understand why.
But it's not just me: Nick and Curt have also lost their steam with this approach, due to the limiting nature of the production, and our aforementioned perspective on the Buu Saga as a whole.
3. Our YouTube channel is our primary source of revenue. While the Patreon absolutely has helped us with several new projects (episode 5 of Unabridged is now in the can, and we continue filming early February), the lifeline that sustains the company is our main channel.
Copyright claims have put us at risk of losing that channel, and our livelihoods in jeopardy. We have our employees to look out for; our friends, our colleagues, and doing right by them—by striving to create original, monetizable, copyright friendly content, that also carries our heart and soul as creatives—is undeniably important.
We've thought about hosting DBZA on other sites, but nowhere has been safe, and worse, it would serve to draw attention away from our hub, which ultimately could lead to less views, less support, and either the scaling back or collapse of our company.
And frankly—and I say this with all due respect—the expansion of our company, to better fulfill the creative wants and needs of our employees, and the financial stability of all therein, is paramount here.
4. Our relationships with other companies have been strained by the nature of DBZA.
Fair-use exists in a nebulous area; even though we believe in it wholeheartedly, that doesn't mean there's no trouble between us and the copyright holders, and that tension leaks into the ecosystem in which we look to coexist with other companies. As writers, actors, etc.
We want to ease this tension moving forward.
5. We mentioned the nebulous nature of copyright. Over the course of the last 11 years, we've avoided major legal challenges, but we cannot continue to press our luck in this regard. We want to live in a less gray area, without the Sword of Damocles above our heads.
"When was this decision made?"
There is no concrete date, but it was in October, 2019 that we decided to no longer use the footage at all.
It started late August/early September. We'd been working on the script for Bojack since May, and had been struggling to get anything of substance down on paper. While it wasn't a complete wash, we weren't happy with the bulk of it. We'd also restarted the scripting process a couple times, trying to approach it from different angles, but we found ourselves at wit's end.
So we started to reflect and talk about the nature of our struggling, and Nick, Curt, and I came to the conclusions I gave you above.
At that time, we'd already written out several of the ShortZ and were looking to get moving on those before the year's end. They were originally conceived solely as connective tissue between Cell and Buu. We quickly realized that, if we could get things rolling, we could possibly continue working on DragonBall Abridged via the ShortZ, potentially solving a majority of our problems.
I actually made this post over on the Reddit after Bojack was cancelled and we totally borked the announcement of said cancellation. It reflects a lot of what's said here.
However... it was over the course of the last two weeks that we started to realize:
Continuing via the ShortZ was untenable as well.
"You mentioned continuing via the ShortZ. What changed?"
Imagine you're a child wanting a puppy. You beg your parents all year, and then they say, "Alright then, we'll get you that puppy for Christmas!" Then Christmas comes around, and they hand you a box. A wrapped box. And in that wrapped box isn't a puppy, but a WowWee Chippies Robot Toy Dog.

While there are plenty of fans who've cheered this on, for all the freedom it allows us, and the ability for us to monetize it, the drop in visual quality and change in overall tone and style ultimately make the Buu Saga a lesser version of what we've provided for years.
Furthermore, the time to actually produce an entire season with this new animation would put the series off for an unbelievably long time, and unfortunately be incredibly costly.
The ShortZ will continue, but we have no intention at this time to utilize them as a way to cover the Buu Saga.
"What of us who are contributing specifically for DBZA?"
We have continuously, time and time again, tried to communicate that this Patreon was not made to fund DBZA. It was made to fund projects outside of DBZA, while maintaining our production of our keystone project through to its completion. It has helped fund FFVII Machinabridged, AWF, Unabridged, Fist Master, Super Knock-Off VS., X Minutes, Cell VS., [Unannounced Project(s)], and essentially all non-mainline DBZA content.
But there's an unavoidable truth here: We promised DBZA would continue beside those projects, and that they would not interfere with its production in any meaningful manner. We also announced Season 4 at the end of Episode 60 in September 2018, leading people to believe that the show—as they knew it—would continue as per the usual.
Anyone who was looking to secure the creation specifically of DBZA Season 4 via their patronage will likely feel frustrated or even betrayed by this reveal, and we're sorry about that.
We also failed in our communication in a timely manner. The moment we decided that DBZA was not happening in it's traditional capacity should've prompted a much quicker announcement to that effect. Please understand that the biggest driving factor behind not saying anything was that we desperately wanted to have a real plan for you folks moving forward, not just bad news and a vague idea. As you can see, even debates on providing the Buu Saga via the ShortZ was not something we'd come to a conclusion on until these last couple weeks.
But we accept the responsibility and blame for keeping you in the dark for too long, regarding DBZA.
So I ask of you this: If you are a Patron solely—or even primarily—in hopes of funding traditional DBZA, please consider ceasing your patronage. If you continue to donate for any particular reason, thank you so very much. But if you don't feel that you are getting your money's worth, we truthfully understand, we will not blame you for choosing not to continue to support us, and we appreciate all the support you've given us thus far.
We will not judge you for being discerning with your own incomes and time, nor will we feel scorned.
"Will this effect the production of FFVIIMA?"
Nope. We're finishing it this year.
"Is there any chance you'll change your mind?"
I cannot say so. We've made this decision and it's what we truly feel is best for us moving forward.
If you guys have any more questions, I'll make myself available in the comments section.
Thank you for your time and your support. I hope you'll continue to see us into new horizons, but as we said before: We will respect your decisions, whatever they are.
Thank you for your support,
Scott "KaiserNeko" Frerichs

Hey guys, I am very late(specifically in joining in on the patreon, and for that i am sorry) but i have been a fan and supporter for 5-6 years. I left a comment here or there that I am unsure if it was seen, but thank you deeply for creating something that not only entertained me, but lifted me up during downtrodden times and brought enjoyment to life in ways that have not and can not be recreated. Through your actions I have searched and found other abridged series that I do enjoy, though not nearly as much as I did DBZA. That being said, I am sad still of the cancellation. Some days I'll be watching an episode and wondering about if or how you all would ever return with Bojack or maybe a movie sized rendition of Buu. I understand that's selfish/childish/unnecessary and doesnt speak to the trials and tribulations you've dealt with making the series. I guess I'm saying, I wanted to make sure I thanked you for everything you've done not only for me, but for all of us. I'm upset still, and fooling myself with false hopes, but I cannot deny you've created something incredible that you feel has reached it's conclusion. I hope to make you proud someday, but all things aside, you all made history. I hope you are doing alright, and I hope your future endeavors prove as fruitful as you plan and hope. Truly, love you guys.

2020-11-10 08:51:10 +0000 UTCAnd? Many of their patreons, surprise suprise, were here for their most popular content, which was DBZA. Not informing their patreons until months after they decided to kill it is scummy, because they didn't tell their patreons what they were paying for. Something that is quite literally illegal in certain countries.

2020-03-16 16:46:42 +0000 UTCI am sad to read this, but DBZA has given me no end of happiness. Y'all held out longer than I expected given the obvious hurdles. Thank you from the bottom of my DBZ loving heart!

2020-03-04 04:53:39 +0000 UTCHey, I and my wife decided to start pledging *after* you announced the end of DBZA. It was the wake up call we needed to realize that between DBZA and all of the gaming streams and videos, we've gotten literal MONTHS of entertainment out of watching the things you produce, and we've never paid you a penny. At this point the TFS patreon is going on our monthly bills just like Netflix. Hell, we watch TFS more than Netflix and Hulu combined. Looking forward to Unabridged, more TFS Plays Kakarrot, and any other gaming streams or content you feel like throwing our way. Stay awesome, we care about the TFS family a lot.

2020-02-22 17:46:06 +0000 UTCPretty shady of you to collect nearly two years worth of Patreon money under the false pretense of "season 4 production", to just now inform your benefactors five whole months after you decided the product was being ceased.

2020-02-19 22:42:03 +0000 UTCHey guys, long time viewer. This announcement actually prompted me to become a patron. For a long time I just didn't have the money and this kinda made me realize how much I owe you guys for the years of entertainment. Honestly, as much as I've enjoyed DBZA looking back I realized I watch (and rewatch) things like Hellsing Abridged and your gaming content so much more. I know I'm just one of many but I want y'all to know that I appreciate the laughs and want to support the development of more.

2020-02-19 06:15:18 +0000 UTCI know I'm late to leave a comment, but it took me a while to find the time to put my thoughts into words. I understand all of the reasoning you've laid out here and in your videos, and I believe that you're being honest with us in everything that you say. That said, I AM still very disappointed to hear this news, as DBZA has been possibly my favorite internet series of all time, and I was very much looking forward to seeing how you would handle the Buu saga and the remaining movies. And I DO feel slightly betrayed by this decision retroactively turning the teaser at the end of episode 60 into a lie. When I was watching that last scene, with Goku saying farewell to everyone, I thought that was you saying that the series was ending there; but I was braced for that possibility based on what you'd said leading up to it, and I'd have rather learned and accepted that it was ending then, then to have had my hopes raised by that teaser, only to be suddenly dashed again now. And when it comes to the Dragon ShortZ, I disagree with the notion that they were inferior to traditional DBZA; if anything I was (and still am) very excited about the freedom that they offer you, and I'd have been perfectly happy to see the Buu saga continue in that form (although I understand the point that it takes far more effort to produce a minute of content in entirely new animation than via your traditional style). Furthermore, I'd have much rather heard you say that DBZA was going on indefinite hiatus than canceled; I understand that you probably don't want to get people's hopes up if you genuinely have no intentions to ever resume it at this time, but I hope that you won't prevent yourselves from taking another look at how you feel 5, or even 10 years in the future, after you've had plenty of time to recover from your DBZA burnout and to mull over potential ideas for the Buu saga. All that being said, I still love and support you guys and intend to continue supporting your Patreon and following your work... but I've decided that I AM going to downgrade my pledge from $10 to $5 per month, because, to be perfectly honest, I haven't been enjoying your overall output since the end of Episode 60 nearly as much as I did for my first few years as a patron, and this announcement dashes my hopes that you will return to business as usual in the near future. Also, I have to say that I feel slightly cheated that the $10 tier promise of "Special streams with the team" hasn't once been fulfilled since the tiers were revamped a while back. And my finances aren't so secure that I can afford not to think about how much each of my support each of my Patreon memberships is fairly deserving. So, I'm going to communicate with my wallet and downgrade my pledge for now, with the sincere hope that you will bounce back and convince me to bring my pledge back up again in the future. Best wishes for the success of your future endeavors.

2020-02-19 05:54:03 +0000 UTCJust saw the video on YouTube and wanted to chime in. I'll miss DBZA for sure, but I have tons of respect for you guys and 100% respect your decision to stop it here, and I'll surely be watching whatever you create going forward. Sorry I can't actively become a Patron for you guys at the moment, but I wanted to at least offer my support and respect for you all amid any of the negativity you may be dealing with.

2020-02-14 21:41:05 +0000 UTCI don't think this is truelly goodbye but more a 'see you next time'. Like they said, burn out was a major reason they hadn't made anything DBZA after the Cell Saga, so maybe this is their wau of jusy letting loose and go to other projects until they get their mojo back. Maybe this is just wishful thinking, but I believe it will come back one day when they get their creative juices running again for DBZA.

2020-02-14 03:49:24 +0000 UTCI mean I can understand the struggles and fears with the whole creativity thing, so I don't blame you. I'm just wondering though, is this the end for the DB content completely? I've watched some of your other stuff, but I've always loved your DB content the most, and when DBS came out I got excited for how you will tackle the new story. I'd just really be sad to have to say goodbye to your DB content completely, DB is what drew me in and that's what kept me around.

2020-02-12 21:46:41 +0000 UTCI’ve been a long time watcher of DBZA and TeamFourStar and actually based my Xbox name off of one of your abridged series. I can’t thank you enough for how much love and work you put into the series and how thankful I am just for what we have. While I’m sure everyone would love to see more of it, if it was another Scrubs situation, nobody would be happy. The fact you guys care so much about your content is what keeps driving people in and keeping them around. It’s that kind of passion that brought the world of indie games and small artists to life and it’s what makes you guys the best abridgers I’ve ever seen. There’s nothing any of us could do to thank you for the years of happiness we had and the years of happiness we will have watching the old DBZA

2020-02-12 08:25:46 +0000 UTCI'm sorry to hear this, I'm very upset, I was personally incredibly excited to see the Buu Saga abridged by you guys. I completely understand where you guys are coming from and I hope you guys continue to have fun and get what you need out of your future projects. Although someday I hope you decide to come back to this and maybe try again, I understand the organizational and business factors of it, but maybe try to just come back to it in a fun way like back in the day. Just my thoughts, but I don't know too much about what went on behind the scenes with you guys, I know you said there was a lot of frustration and arguing, so if so then maybe it is best left where it is. Thank you for all the laughs and amazing episodes of DBZA, personally I watched DBZA before I even knew what Dragon Ball was, and you guys got me into Dragon Ball which is now my favorite show, I also personally enjoy your dub better than the actual English dub, but all in all thank you for all your hard work and the incredible masterpiece you blessed us with 😢.

2020-02-12 06:20:45 +0000 UTCI would love to speak for myself when I say there are "Few kind words to say about the Boo Saga", but I cannot since it was the one I first watched and loved, I am also quite sure I can still watch it and have some fun to this day. But "I can watch it and have some fun" doesn't cut it when you are trying to be critical of something as anyone would say if you tried to bring this argument up when defending something like SAO. I don't like saying that the Boo saga has big problems, but I am also not going to deny it

2020-02-12 00:16:19 +0000 UTCFirst off really calling someone Frieza (didn’t even spell it right)is that supposed to mean something or is that you way of trying to be funny second of all clearly I’m being subjective in case you haven’t noticed so I don’t see the point of pointing that out also you’re saying it’s the best not based on facts but a matter of opinion and I’m not really going to go into the part about uploading it another site because they already addressed this incase you were just plain ignoring what they said idk it can’t be me wanting people to keep gambling when they don’t have to the ending they had was fine the Buu saga as I already said wasn’t good in the first place it’s not like they’re tapped out creative wise it’s just like trying to produce a season 11 when season 10 already wrapped up the story so nicely that’s how your quality would go down like are you really that selfish that you would rather have a bad show then end on the high as they already did
Josh McCain
2020-02-11 23:43:29 +0000 UTCWow, you're a real dick. Have you even watched DBZA? The amount of editing, storywriting, and acting that goes into that show is crazy. They're not just dubbing over it, they actually add new and original things to the show. Even if they are playing video games, they work on their humor to make the video funny and they edit it nicely. It takes a lot of time doing that stuff, especially if you have as many projects as these guys. Thank god you don't have that job, you would make the most bland, boring, unfunny, half-assed content on Youtube. First world problems my ass.
JudeRock
2020-02-11 21:58:08 +0000 UTCAll the video was missing was a violin playing in the back round. Loved the hands to the face every couple of minutes too. Must be nice to experience burnout from making goofy videos and playing video games in between them and uploading it. I want that job. First world problems I guess.

2020-02-11 13:10:55 +0000 UTCIt's sad...but totally understandable. You shouldn't continue with a project if you don't feel like you can do it and not come to hate it. Burnout is a scary thing and I get the other fears too. You guys should do what is best for you. DBZA ended on such a high note, that forcing it on would ruin it, honestly. You guys made it into an amazing series, a love letter from fans. Time to move onto other projects that are bound to be great. Thank you for all of the amazing episodes, it's lead to great memories. Good luck with your future projects.

2020-02-11 02:57:48 +0000 UTCFelt like all of DBZ was about Gohans character and his development so kind of glad to see the Buu arc not happen in some ways even though I love DBZA since the Buu arc sends Gohans character to the shadow realm. Would be neat to see you guys use the ShortZ to do something like showing Gohan looking threw a family album in order to bridge into maybe showing a few episodes of the original Dragon Ball series . Cool way to do some more Dragon Ball stuff without messing up the ending and do some more abridged vidoes without worrying about a release schedule since the episodes could be out of order. Cell ending always felt like it was the point that Gohan was finally starting to understand Goku a little bit more and always thought it would be cool to see what it would be like if Gohan could see what Goku was like at Gohans age.

2020-02-11 02:44:30 +0000 UTCBro I fucking hate you, dragon ball has always been my life and a way of teaching me things and making me happy, and finding a funny version of it was the best, it may not be funny to you but it sure as hell was funny to me and it made me smile daily, it even got me out of killing myself, this show and the original will always hold a special place to my heart!

2020-02-11 00:23:27 +0000 UTCTo be honest, I felt like DBZ should have ended with Cell in the first place. The Buu arc did serve as a neat wrap-up of most character arcs, but the two main ones I had any investment in (Goku and Gohan) were kinda well done with Cell. As enjoyable as the Buu arc was, and as much as I would love to see you guys pay homage to it and crack jokes on how Gohan flounders, Goku has to come clean up the mess, Vegeta FINALLY becomes a "proper" good guy and Krillin names his and 18's daughter after frickin Maron... I honestly don't need the whole arc for that. You don't need that pressure.

2020-02-10 23:07:05 +0000 UTCWell it's a bummer for sure, but it wouldn't make us feel any better if you guys made more videos fully knowing what you guys are going through, so If I were in your shoes I would probably end it aswell no matter how much it hurts you or the fans, the right thing to do isn't all ways the best thing but it's the right one, Thanks Guys for everything you did, you made me smile, cry, laugh and most of all made me a better/funnier person, so Thanks, and I pray to whatever god that might or might not exist that you guys can live a happier and peacefull lives.......with a side of humor here and there. Of course. So bye and Thanks for everything TeamFourStar.

2020-02-10 21:50:11 +0000 UTCThank you so much for all that you've done. You guys genuinely changed my life. I remember my brother showing me DBZA in about 2008, I was 11 at the time, I knew about Dragonball through the games but never really got into it. Thanks to you guys I found something which defined my childhood-teen years. I can never decide which I love more, the series of DBZA. Its' also thanks to you guys that we have gotten all this new content past 2013. You kept the series alive, and for that, I will forever be grateful. I feel like watching this show has shaped my character in so many ways and watching DBZA has allowed me to destress and forget about shitty things going on. I will forever love this series, and all the content you put out, especially the Kingdom Hearts Playthroughs. Your personalities and creativity are out of this world.

2020-02-10 21:44:14 +0000 UTCYou guys have done amazing work and it is shameful that it took me this long to realize that I have not given you the support you deserve. While it's a terrible loss for the main core of the channel, it would be worse to lose your creative souls. You've gained a 5$ tier supporter cause I want to see you guys continue forward and will do what I can to help you. Let's build something new and better.

2020-02-10 21:28:17 +0000 UTCNo worries friends; between DBZ, Hellsing, FFVII, and many more besides, you've already set the bar so goddamn high it's incredible. Working in video myself, I completely understand the burn-out worries. I will happily say that so long as you continue to be creative and do your best by us AND yourselves, I will still be a humongous fan! So fuck all the naysayers; Team FourStar still kicks ass and I can't wait to see what you all do next, Dragonballs or no!

2020-02-10 21:19:07 +0000 UTCI mean... Toriyama himself hated the Buu saga too. He wrote it ridiculously like he did hoping people wouldn't like it and he could leave it as the final saga in DBZ without people begging for more because he wanted it to end at Cell but he was advised to continue on and wrote the Buu saga. Toriyama's doing stuff like this all the time, I mean the only reason Vegeta hasn't won a fight and gets beat up is because Toriyama hates him as a character and it's a F you to fans who love vegeta because he can't understand why they do. Everything he hates, western fans seem to love and it baffles him. lmao

2020-02-10 17:46:57 +0000 UTCWhile it is sad knowing there won't be a full continuation, I respect your decision. That said, I am hoping that perhaps we will get some ShortZ covering a few of the more memorable scenes of the Buu Saga. Not the whole thing of course, just a few of the (actually) good moments like Vegeta's Atonement and such.

2020-02-10 16:07:10 +0000 UTCI think this is a great decision for all the reasons you mentioned. It is an amazing body of work, and retiring it on a high note is absolutely the way to go. Thanks for countless laughs over the years :)

2020-02-10 15:43:53 +0000 UTCI really hope you can see this, but if not, I will at least get it off my chest. While going through college, this was my biggest hype. Waiting for episode 6, getting to see it, and then being even more excited to see episode 7; it was like a nerdy dream. Taking a show I had much respect for, and then taking it, making it funnier, more wholesome. I was ALWAYS looking forward to each episode. Each and every one of you with your jokes, your craftsmanship, and your love for a show, always put a huge smile on my face, while going through was was in fact the hardest part of my life. Your work, your effort, reached out to a 18 year old guy, and helped him move forward. Now I am here, at 30 years old, saying that I feel like I can't figure out how best to say thank you. So, I will just say it then. Thank you, and I will continue to support you guys.

2020-02-10 15:21:21 +0000 UTCWell so far I haven't been enjoying their other content. Didn't feel that same energy as I did with DBZA.

2020-02-10 15:14:32 +0000 UTCTFS, Thanks for everything with DBZA! There was much joy to be had, just want to say thanks for taking us along for the ride.

2020-02-10 15:12:47 +0000 UTCan understandable yet sad development will be sad to see DBZA end but it has certainly had a hell of a lifespan with an amazing quality level from the entire TFS team I can't even begin to thank you for all the laughs this project has given me and my friends hell I wouldn't have actually started getting closer with my partner if it wasn't for TFS videos beign a common interest when we were just friends so thank you for that. I look forward to seeing what other projects rise up to take the place of DBZA as I am sure there will be several equally enjoyable projects in the works already. to surmise thank you for all the hard work you have all put in and the joy it has brought so many.

2020-02-10 13:40:07 +0000 UTCNo he’s right the Buu Saga is hot garbage Vegeta mid life crisis and fusion was the only good thing the rest of felt like a joke in comparison to the other sagas
Josh McCain
2020-02-10 13:19:40 +0000 UTCDoes this mean the end to all ABRIDGING in general, or will there be future projects for different series or movies? I don't care nearly so much about DBZA as I do that.
BrainBlow
2020-02-10 12:35:57 +0000 UTCExactly what I came here to say. Losing DBZA sucks, but it ended in triumph like few abridged series ever have. It would be so much worse if the show had forced a few more episodes out and then died, incomplete, out of lack of enthusiasm just like so many others.
Zeke
2020-02-10 11:16:11 +0000 UTCPersonally, I'd say so. I've enjoyed all their content the same way I enjoyed DBZA because they all put a piece of themselves in what they create, so whatever content they produce has a similar energy to it. A lot of abridged series exist out there, but TFS' style is what really made it shine, and I'd love to see more content from them.

2020-02-10 10:57:57 +0000 UTCAlthough I'm not a patron, mostly due to lack of expendable income as a college student, I have been with you guys pretty much since the beginning. I hadn't seen the original Dragonball Z, and when I stumbled upon the couple videos you had posted, I decided to see what this whole "Dragonball" business was about. I have been doing my best to keep up to date with new episodes, watched a lot of the gaming channel when I became aware of it, and have generally spent a lot of time consuming your content. After a little while, I realized that while I enjoyed your content, the real reason I stayed around is because I saw how much love went into it, as well as enjoying each of you personally in whatever content you featured in. I love you guys, and though I am disappointed I'll probably never see your guys' take on the Buu saga, I'd rather be left with a great ending and you guys creating what makes you happy than with lower-quality content that makes you guys miserable. While I can't support you financially, I will be sticking by you guys no matter what direction you decide to go, and I look forward to whatever project you pour your heart into next.
Eamon Geraghty
2020-02-10 10:54:01 +0000 UTCI'm okay with this. As Oscar Wilde said: "There are only two tragedies in life. One is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it." If TFS has finally tapped out on the secret ingredient that made the show so great, - passion, love and tender care - then going on past the incredible high-note that was episode #60, would have been a far greater tragedy than this decision not to. It shambling on as a husk from that moment forwards, was just going to be painful for all the real fans. More episodes are apparently, just not a possibility. For the amount of free, high-quality content you've given us (I myself have never even been a Patreon - not that the Patreon was ever for the episodes), you're deserving of a lot of leeway on the decision to quit while you're a head (Thanks 16). Thanks for the ride guys!
Arthur van der Burgh
2020-02-10 10:30:03 +0000 UTCI think you guys are doing the right thing and i will still continue to support your other content. Also DBZ was meant to finish at the Cell saga , so this is quite fitting.

2020-02-10 10:29:26 +0000 UTCThank you all for the amazing 60 episodes, and many movies. I will continue to watch them on the side (over and over again) as I work or play games. This chokes me up something fierce though, I understand all of the reasons, but sadly no one else creates the quality works that you guys do, and most of us are only here for DBZ related materials. I guess I won't be seeing anything new from now on that I'm interested in, but if you ever think of a way to make more off of it, or if someone donates (or all of us) were to donate enough and it could change your minds. Please do let us know! Thanks again and peace!
Chris
2020-02-10 09:43:22 +0000 UTCHey guys, I want to add my voice to those of support and best wishes. Despite knowing about DBZA for most of it's lifetime, it was only a few years ago I finally decided to actually give it a chance (younger me was too hipster to give it a go for... well no good reason honestly). I can't say the show has changed my life or anything, but you guys are great writers, actors, and seem like just cool guys to hang out with and ever since I've been subscribed and loving all (or most anyway :p) of your streams, gaming content and whatever else you guys have put out. This is my first time supporting you guys, and I hope it helps since I'm sure you're going to see some hits from this. While I can understand people being upset about the communication issues and the like, I just hope you guys will be able to keep going, and I look forward to seeing what new projects you put all that creative energy into going forward. Thanks for 60 episodes of excellent work.

2020-02-10 08:56:48 +0000 UTCWait, what happens to your Renegade for Life and 2 Saiyans Play series? Are they gone or done too? I love those ones, please keep them. Hopefully those take less effort and strain to make on you guys. Do whatever you need to look after yourselves because your health comes first.

2020-02-10 05:36:35 +0000 UTCI'm sure you guys are gonna get a lot of thank-you posts on here (which is great), so you might not see this, but I wanna say it anyway. DBZA changed a part of me. My brother introduced me to it when I was a Freshman in High School. It was episode 24, I believe. Before this, Dragon Ball as a whole was just some cartoon show that I knew some people watched and there was a cool move called Kamehameha. But the humor and joy you guys put into this show is what got me watching all of your stuff. By the time Season 2 was done, I felt that I needed to watch the original DBZ. So that's what I did. Before you were able to release episode 32, I had finished all of DBZ and GT. I have since watched everything you guys have put out, but also every series of Dragon Ball. So, in short, you guys gave me a multitude of great shows to love. Both your own, and what you loved. To me, it was no great surprise to hear that DBZA is over. When the Android Saga was going on, I was legitimately curious if that season was ever going to finish. The fact that you guys pushed through and finished it was really cool. I'm not going to lie and say that learning all of this breaks my heart. While this is something I still do love, it ain't a goodbye. Like you said, the content is all still there. And you guys are still around. So thank you, for all that you have put out so far. And thank you, for not driving yourself into the ground trying put out content for us. Y'all keep it up.

2020-02-10 05:20:27 +0000 UTCJust to be clear, I hadn't been a patron until now. I am sorry I waited so long but I will continue to support you guys despite the lack of new DBZA content, unlike those who will unsub for this very reason. A few dollars a month doesn't cover the amount of joy and nostalgia you guys filled my life with. I can't thank you enough and you shouldn't feel down about this decision because it is respectable to know when it's time to say goodbye to something you love. Thank you Kaiser Lani, Taka, Kirran and everyone else for sharing your art and for pouring your heart out in this post much like you did into DBZA.
Victor Hart
2020-02-10 05:11:59 +0000 UTCCalm down Frieza, let's go by steps. You start by saying the same thing I did about Toriyama not wanting to do Buu so I'll ignore that. Second, you say "saying Dragon Ball is the “best” anime out there is really subjective" and yet you said the arc only gave two good things, isn't that subjective too? Also, you may find it mediocre but you can't deny and ignore the facts and money the series make, so yeah, I'm not saying it's the best just because I liked it, there are FACTS behind this. Third and most absurd thing (in my opinion) you wrote: "you want them to risk it all for entertainment sake". That is EXACTLY what TFS was before, remember the disclaimer? They do this because they love doing it and for entertainment, they could take the time of their lives making these and could use the money from other projects to upload the season 4 on another website.
Saulo Moraes
2020-02-10 05:11:05 +0000 UTCYou know, I actually only watched the Boo saga as a kid so I remember it fondly, but the critiques to it are more than valid, the story was wrapped up with Cell and there was no reason to continue, and it was hard to continue since it wrapped up so perfectly, in the end, nothing that came after that seemed to work creatively as well, it was still very enjoyable but sometimes being content with "Enjoyable" just doesn't work Two game series that I love are Megaman Battle Network and Megaman Zero, and both with both of them, not only I am glad stopped when they did, but I am against any form of return by them, Battle Network ended on a happy note with Lan growing up and living a happy life which he very much deserved, and Zero ended with one of the best hero moments I've ever seen in my life from a guy who straight up says "I never called myself a Hero, I just do what I believe to be right", continuing any of these stories is just going to cut down on the impact of these moments for the series and I'd just throw anything else out of my headcanon. And it's not like these games ended entirely, Megaman Starforce and Megaman ZX are very good successors to each respective series but they borrow almost nothing from their predecessors storywise, the characters, settings, story, villains, everything is brand new and stands on its own only sharing gameplay similarities and a timeline. My point is: Even if they continue, it's far too high a bar to jump over by this point, and wrapping things up in here is better for the overall story even if it's at the cost of seeing more of these characters we've grown to love, they are happy now and bringing them back is just going to pull them out of the perfect ending they've had, let them rest.

2020-02-10 04:59:18 +0000 UTCI found TFS through DBZA and, while I am not huge on a lot of the original content, I have discovered enjoyment in other facets over the years. You guys got me through some rough times with DBZA, but there were long waits between episodes obviously at times and even in those times as your other content ramped up and started to come out, it was never a question of if sticking with you guys was worth it. You're amazing creators and the passion and care you give you your projects is admirable. I'm... Incredibly sad to say goodbye to DBZA, but I'd be even sadder to see it suffer from being forced to continue after passion is lost, or seeing your team and company be put at risk because copyright legislature. I didn't offer support on Patreon for the sake of DBZA, but because I believe that talented people deserve a chance to do what they love as a career. You guys help you make the world brighter, and while I can't promise to always be a monetary supporter, I can guarantee that TFS will always be considered when my budget allows for supporting such creators. Thank you so much for the laughs, the memories, and the honesty (even if the announcement is a bit overdue). Here's to the future.

2020-02-10 04:56:52 +0000 UTCI'm here after watching the YT video that y'all posted. As a long time watcher of the show, I want to say I'm proud to have been on this journey and watch you guys expand and grow. every new episode you guys posted I either immediately clicked or in the case of multi-part finales waited to they were all available to binge with homemade pizza. I love Lani's comment about the Final Season of Scrubs *eugh* what a sham that was. I've watched plenty of Shows that either fall before their time (Agent Carter), ruin themselves by reaching to far (****in Scrubs) or simply lose that 'spark'(The End of the ****ing World) for lack of a better word, that made me enjoy it in the first place, as much as I love the series I wouldn't want to see a product produced out of obligation; it compromises the quality of the project and not fair to the people working on it. If this is where it ends I think there's no better time than now, also I like to think that in DBZA Gohan properly takes Goku's place as the defender of Earth. I will continue to support The Team's new projects in the Pipeline, and again thank you, for all the laughs and the **** YEAH moments this past decade, here's to another one and to FUN!

2020-02-10 04:46:27 +0000 UTCFirst of all Toriyama didn’t want to even do the Buu arc it’s a half assed arc that only gave two good thing and that’s fusion and Vegeta having a midlife crisis.Second saying Dragon Ball is the “best” anime out there is really subjective in my opinion it’s a mediocre anime with a ton of flaws and bad writing I only got back into it because I saw a Dbza clip online somewhere and I wanted to know who made me laugh til finally after a half an hour I found Tfs on YouTube they made me like Dbza because of the way they portrayed the characters and told the story in my opinion so much better than the original.Third what do you think would happen if they finally get there channel taken down for good what happens then you want them to risk it all for entertainment sake that just doesn’t make sense especially if it’s not going to be good entertainment and a majority of fans would hate it then you just risked everything for basically no reason that doesn’t make any sense
Josh McCain
2020-02-10 04:38:55 +0000 UTCDid you really just miss the entirety of the message they just put out and do you honestly believe that they just sit on there assess and do nothing but get “free money “ maybe think before you write something because I don’t think you did they clearly work hard and do other projects if you don’t like their gaming content that’s one thing but to say they’re just being lazy that’s asinine. If you think what they do is so easy I would love to see you be consistently funny and entertaining on a daily basis for 11 years I would love to see you start your own company and venture out into unknown waters by doing one project and not getting exhausted statistics say after 9 seasons (roughly 9 years) a show loses its quality and shows obvious fatigue which is why you don’t see so many shows going past 9 seasons and those that do all lack the same quality it had in previous years only producing maybe 5 or 6 good episodes out of a 20-25 episode season the rest are lackluster or bad that quality just goes down after each season which is where Dbza was headed if they continued
Josh McCain
2020-02-10 04:28:29 +0000 UTCTo be entirely fair, the original DBZ was meant to end after Cell, with Gohan inheriting Goku's mantle of Earth's Mightiest. I'm actually glad you guys chose to end it here.

2020-02-10 04:22:11 +0000 UTCFirst time Patron for you guys, because I wanted to say thank you for everything you've done, and show my support for everything expected to come after this message. I've loved everything I've watched from you guys, and you're one of the handful of things keeping me on Youtube as a platform. My only criticism with you all, ever, in any way, is something you've touched upon yourself. Communication. Not about things like the prime subject matter of this post, but about other works. Work-in-progress and prerelease names that are indecipherable and referring to "secret" and "unannounced" projects as reasons to stick around is something that I've had to mentally grapple with as I've followed you along on your journey, and it has been my sole point of contention with how you conduct your business. But that's not my place to demand or expect change. In the end, I love you guys, not just as entertainers, but as people I can respect in a field where that gets harder every day. You guys are amazing people, I wish every single one of you the best going forward, and I'll be here until the end.

2020-02-10 04:21:14 +0000 UTCTo everyone on the TFS team: This decision goes far beyond us and beyond you, as I've seen at least one other person mention, you find yourselves in the very same spot Akira Toriyama once was, the story has wrapped up all loose ends and gave us an fantastic ending, do you continue writing or do you let the story die Toriyama was pressured to continue and other than the final Boo fight and Vegeta's sacrifice, there are few kind words left for Boo saga, to this day Super gets flak and let's not even get started on GT Although a few comments might disagree for a multitude of reasons, mostly personal ones, and although people might be justifiably feeling cheated or angry, I believe your decision might be for the best, a late decision but better late than never, as I wrote in my Youtube comment, Gohan is already a grown warrior, Goku isn't threatening the universe merely by existing, Piccolo has company, Vegeta has a baby boy to take care of and Krillin has reset his Owned count and isn't going to increase it any time soon. This is not goodbye because there is still more to see from you guys, and I'll definitely stick around since you are all very skilled in the art of Abridged, remember that your decision was most likely the correct one and I'll see you all next time

2020-02-10 04:16:38 +0000 UTCThe two Patreons I'm a part of (Valleyfolk and You, now) I joined AFTER they made a drastic change to their original formula. 2020-02-10 04:08:05 +0000 UTCi can respect the choice but really wish you would have not announced season 4 that just feels vary disrespectful to all the people that stuck by you for all these years . now this leaves a big hole and a big what if for me never getting to see the end of it all. so with that ill be leaving the channel and you dudes behind good luck with your projects but i wont be sticking around.

2020-02-10 03:41:45 +0000 UTCIt isn't fair to call them lazy. They are working on other projects such as the shorts or ff7. I'm very optimistic for the quality of their future projects, but if you aren't that's understandable. Stop subscribing. However, there is no need for hostility. This isn't easy for anyone.

2020-02-10 03:36:19 +0000 UTCWow man it's the end of an era. I'm getting old. Looking forward to FF7MA, love it. I'm gonna go rewatch DBZA and have a good cry lol~ Thanks for making it, it's the definitive version of DBZ for me personally. It's definitely best to know when to end something. A lot of shows don't do it soon enough and then they lose focus on their characters, and their tight plots.
Kyokkai
2020-02-10 03:27:12 +0000 UTCNot a Patreon but just a fan and another creator myself, but I understand and fully support the decision as burnout and creativity can hurt any creator and it would be painful to see the creation you work on not turning out how you want it to be. So, I'll still support your YouTube and I would love to see any future content/creation the team can pull out and hope to see DBZA come back in any major and spectacular way.
Masumaru54
2020-02-10 03:26:06 +0000 UTCAnd it's an idiotic thing to refuse to continue on a passion product because of burnout, especially when it's making you well over 80% of your revenue. No one expect DBZA consistently, we never have. However canceling the whole project /forever/ especially after announcing it a year prior and when it's what people are primarily there for is just a dumb, dumb move that will more than likely bite them in their rear. If these guys were getting paid to do this by a production company, they'd all be fired for even thinking of doing this especially this late. You don't cancel a product when the product is doing well.
Kromedrone
2020-02-10 03:20:31 +0000 UTCI may have started because of DBZA but I stayed for you guys. I know what burnout can do to you and I want to thank you for being sincere and for being honest with us about why you've made this decision. Even without DBZA, I can't wait to see what new stuff you bring to the table! I've seen others reference this line from our good man Dr. Seuss and I think it rings true here: "Don't be sad that it's over, be happy that it happened!" So from the bottom of my heart.........thank you for bringing such a wonderful and fantastic series to us and for just being wonderful to begin with!

2020-02-10 03:15:09 +0000 UTCI've been watching DBZA since it was first released all those years ago. I remember eagerly waiting for the next episode (in particular I fondly recall the: "Filthy Monkey, meet general mountain!". You have brought me such joy and laughter over the years. Thank you. You have forever changed my life and I am more than happy to support you on your next endeavor!

2020-02-10 03:09:08 +0000 UTCnot a patron, just a fan from the start. thank you. that's all that needs be said. you did amazing work over the last decade, and you did nothing wrong canceling season 4.

2020-02-10 03:06:15 +0000 UTCSo you didn't read it? You didn't watch the video of the boys explaining whats happening and seeing Scott almost crying his eyes out because how much this hurts him to do this? You're an asshole.

2020-02-10 02:56:16 +0000 UTCNot gonna lie, i saw this coming ever since you guys started going corporate, that's why i never pledged here. Corporations and abridging are things that do not mix together, and i believe the last 10 years and more made this clear already. That's why the only long time abridgers who are still somewhat active are the independent ones like LK and Something Witty to name a few. I'm not judging you guys, i'd probably do the same thing if i was in your shoes, i like money as much as the next guy.
Francisco André Teles
2020-02-10 02:54:13 +0000 UTCPart of me understand you guys but the other part can't shake the fact of one thing.. What you guys are feeling here is almost exactly the pressure that Toriyama felt when finishing the Cell Saga too, you see, he din't know what to do, how to continue with the same quality as before but what happened? The fans (and let's be honest here, money and there nothing strange about that) inspired Toriyama to continue, he created this huge saga of Buu where a lot of people say what you guys are saying "there isn't that much emotion or good material like Cell or Frieza", and I agree, but come on, it STILL IS Dragon Ball, it's the best anime out there, with the most fans out there. As I said, I respect your decision but just keep in mind the possibility of going back, you guys are not alone here and you guys are not the only one passing through this, there IS good to come out of this, don't let this fear of "not living to expectations" consume you guys, what would Vegeta think? I say, take your time guys, rethink this, but this time, try not focusing on the bad and on the COULD go wrong, think the opposite, the good of this Buu saga, what the fans could do to inspire you.. I really hope you guys can at least read this comment, I'm sure many fans are raising their arms right now giving all our energies to you guys =]

2020-02-10 02:53:09 +0000 UTCIf they force themselves to do it even if they don't want to then its just gonna be shit. This is a passion project. Passion is half the job. If thats gone theres no point to carry on with the show.

2020-02-10 02:52:55 +0000 UTCTo Team Four Star I just wanted to say thank you. I have watched your videos and let's plays since 2013 and have always been a huge fan. You guys helped me get through Nursing school with my sanity intact, and your humor helped me during some pretty dark times. Even if you guys ended DBZA with episode 60 all I can say is that is fine and I am satisfied with the ending. I am looking forward to the other projects that you are working on, and will continue to support Team Four Star no matter what.

2020-02-10 02:43:30 +0000 UTCTFS dropped their jobs and decided to get paid by patreon and youtube revenue full time instead like 5yrs back, around the same time they also stopped making dbza vids monthly because they couldnt monetize them. i noticed this waaaay back when the dbza vids stopped coming out monthly. they could do it again if they got part time jobs, but it seems they have gotten too used to sitting on their ass and takin in that free money while making shitty lets plays

2020-02-10 02:41:48 +0000 UTCI've never been a patron but thank you for so many beautiful memes and not only hilarious but thoughtful jabs at the overall story. I own Dragonball and Z up to where Cell Saga ends on DVD and I get how the changed tone of the Buu arc could be frustrating. Best wishes t you on future projects, as I got some laughs out of FF7MA as well. Take care of yourselves, please.

2020-02-10 02:41:32 +0000 UTCThank you for what you've done, you all have grown as creators and actors so very much through the years. (Just watching Season 1 shows this so much.) But I am in agreement. Don't keep doing it because you feel obligated to the fans, don't keep doing it because you feel you must. Do it because you want to, because you love what you're doing. If you don't love your work, then as content creators *it will show*. Good luck with future endeavors, and I look forward to whatever comes next - because I'm certain the people who were in Team Four Star will continue to do great work (even if not the company).

2020-02-10 02:40:51 +0000 UTCSo I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you all for giving so much of your lives and time to us and being so... passionate about your work. I just became a patreon to you after watching your video. I saw how much out hurt you all to realize that continuing would just lead to compromises and inferior quality.

2020-02-10 02:39:48 +0000 UTCI have been watching abridge series since around 2007, and the first abridged series I saw was Yu Yu Hakusho Abridged. I found it when searching for episodes of the main show on Vimeo, and I have loved Abridged Series ever since. Without a doubt DBZ abridged has been a big part of my life. Almost every fried I have watch the series on their own and those that hadn't, well, lets just say it wasn't optional viewing. It would be a lie if I said that I wasn't sad to see to know that DBZA was ending, but what Lani said was true, don't do the final season of Scrubs, not to any show. Also, TeamFourStar is way more to me than just DBZA. Hellsing Ultimate Abridged is the best show I will ever watch, period. I am not a creative person. I tend to work with logic and technology. So I may not be the best person to comment on creative burnout. However, I do get burn out on a work level and I also understand that, after twelve year, you want to do something different. I am happy with where it left off, and, while I do have ideas, I will keep them to myself as these 60 episodes and all the movies and other content are more than I could ever ask of any group of people. I look forward to whatever TeamFourStar does next and until then, Don't Forget to Be Awesome, Stay Foxy and Much Love, and all the other internet ways of saying good luck!

2020-02-10 02:39:09 +0000 UTCI ain't gonna lie, I'll probably forget about you all and never set foot on the channel again unless it's to watch DBZA episodes out of nostalgia. I'm not saying your other stuff is objectively bad, but I (along with probably hundreds of thousands of others) only really watched for DBZA and DBZA related things. It's depressing that you've chosen to end it prematurely, and I understand the burnout (however I do think you guys are addressing burnout incorrectly) but ultimately what I think this means for many of people is that your channel just isn't of interest anymore. I've been watching since 2009, and every other project I've seen you take on (excluding Hellsing Abridged) was just rather... lackluster? I cannot even bring myself to watch the FF7 stuff because it just seems so poorly done, along with the source material just being rather garbage. All the spin off stuff was cool, but the only thing that kept retention was DBZA. I was a patron a time or two and I don't feel cheated out of my money, however I think a lot of people were under the impression their money was going to making DBZA a consistent thing. Whether that was your intention or not, the objective fact is that money makes the world go round and more money mean more reason to create the stuff people want. I hope you guys can get off the burnout train and put yourself in a better headspace, but this just is a bad idea to say "never again" when your primary money maker was DBZA. I know you all have jobs outside of Youtube, and I hope that this decision doesn't come to bite you in the rear. Hope you have success in your future endeavors.

2020-02-10 02:38:30 +0000 UTCYou know... when I first saw the DBZA ShortZ I thought they were the most amazing thing ever and was kinda hoping they'd be the cover for the season 4. (Seriously, I thought it would have an epic saga of Gohan being the Great Sayian man as a spin of series.) But if you feel that it would pull off the quality, I personally do see how it takes away from it, I truly thought it added to it. But I understand that you guys would have complete burn out at this stage, rather surprised you didn't have it soon. Take it easy, you've been so fun to watch and I hope that whatever comes next is just as amazing and brilliant as what you make.

2020-02-10 02:35:29 +0000 UTCI dont useally complain about free product and do reconize the work is hard. This just shouts to me as giving up and taking the easy way out, I would not think any artist would want to leave a project incomplete and I dont think the cell ending quite cuts it, it would suck for those buu fans if they waited until now and when there going for get to the content it was called off. I understand that it gets hard and tedious as well as not fun, but for most people that describes there jobs and they just dont quit they do what they have to. I mean there was only 1 saga left just 1 you mean you all could not pulled one last time and complete what's promised? It's free to watch but your getting revenue because we. Paid are time to watch. Plus it seems you had ppl donating to you as. Well., knowing. That I think I can complain in this case for free product. How are fans supposed to trust. The group now will you all get tired mid seasion and stop producing when you dont want to do it any more.?

2020-02-10 02:26:23 +0000 UTCI just want to say it's been a blast. These 11 years has been amazing and even if I did expect a buu saga and was looking forward to your guys take on it. It's truly and otterly up to you whether or not to do so. If anything, don't let the people who aren't understanding get you don't. I hope you guys can create a project that may match the potential and greatness of dragon ball z abridged it's big shoes to fill but there's always a chance. Have a great one TeamFourStar i'll be around. Hopefully the impact this is gonna have won't tear you apart.

2020-02-10 00:55:16 +0000 UTCthe truth dumb dumb If they "Didn't do it for the money" it would have been done ages ago and if they really cared they would finish the project regardless of time or monitization not quit 3/4 of the way through. you didnt join this channel for lets plays or comentary you joined for DBZA (or some other abriged show) And if they didnt finish their flagship show why would they finish the others???????????????????????????????????

2020-02-09 23:17:16 +0000 UTCI approve of your reasoning, but sitting on the official announcement for several months after the decision was made, I personally find to be poor practice.

2020-02-09 23:12:31 +0000 UTCJust found out about this on Kotaku. While I'm sad to hear there's no future plans for the Buu arc or the other movies, I'm so glad to have had this series in my life. I've been a fan as long as I can remember, back when a few Youtubers came together and decided to parody the original movies, before deciding to make an official Dragon Ball Z: Abridged. It has been a fantastic ride since, and I'll never forget the laughs you guys have given to so many people around the world. As for leaving the project for artistic integrity, I actually have a lot of respect for you guys. Too many shows or movie series have gone on longer than needed, and a lot of times it does tarnish the original project. If you feel like that's what would happen with the Buu saga, then I completely understand. I'm really looking forward to what kind of content you'll be releasing in the near future, especially if it's on the same level as Hellsing Ultimate Abridged, FF7MA, DBZ ShortZ, and many more. Farewell, Team Four Star. Until the day we meet again.
Steve
2020-02-09 22:45:52 +0000 UTCI discovered DBZA I think in late 2011, just 3 years into the series. Before DBZA I didn't think much of DBZ more than an anime with tons of filler of people yelling at each other most of the time. DBZA though, got me to fall in love with Dragon Ball, and it's made me a lifetime fan. I'd be lying if I said this doesn't make me extremely sad. I get it though, but I respect your decision. If it had to end, the ending you made of the Cell Saga is amazing, and I'll always remember it (and still watch many more times I'm sure, along with the entire series :D) Good luck to Team Four Star in your future endeavors!

2020-02-09 22:30:23 +0000 UTCThanks for letting us know. I never contributed to your Patreon as i don’t and didn’t have the money to do so. I became aware of DBZA when episode 34 came out. Wish I could have found it much earlier but at least I’ve enjoyed the lots of real quality content from you guys. Not really enjoyed your other content as much but will continue to give it a go. I am disappointed that you aren’t finishing DBZ by going ahead with the Buu saga. I actually think that saga has the best abridged potential at least for comedic purposes. I am also disappointed you failed to let us know as soon as you made the decision so people who were donating money to you could make their decision to pull out sooner. I’m afraid you won’t escape some accusations from people now. I suspect in a few years time when you have had a few years break and perhaps have the capacity to do so, you will decide to actually proceed with the Buu saga. My questions are 1) will you feature any unseen characters in the ShortZ videos such as Goten, small trunks, videl, beerus, etc...? 2) Do you see yourself ever reconsidering this decision in a few years time? Finally, Thank you for creating such great content with DBZA which I will continue to enjoy over and over again. Kind regards from the UK! P.S. Love the Doctor Who references and music from a massive Doctor Who fan!

2020-02-09 19:48:24 +0000 UTCNew patron here, just wanted to give you guys some words of encouragement on your future endeavors! 2020-02-09 14:49:39 +0000 UTCThank you for being open and honest with your community. Even if you feel as if it took you too long to state it clearly, I personally find it incredibly refreshing to deal with creators who are willing to come out and give definitive answers to questions they know will be derisive. You guys have all been a major part of my life for years now, and I am happy to now be in a spot to support you.

2020-02-09 14:33:59 +0000 UTCI started watching Dragonball on Cartoon Network when I was 9 or 10 and I remember being hooked immediately. Started watching DBZ later down the road on Toonami and was hooked again. Then, a friend showed me the the first season and half the second. Once again, I was hooked. Seeing an Americanized comedic version of a series I love is something I will never forget. From your writing to your added, and sometimes improved, visual edits of this great show is something I will truly never forget. DBZA in my opinion, is my favorite version of Dragonball. I truly hope that later down the road, once things are patched up between you guys and Toie, they give you what we've all heard on every single episode, the official release. I wish you guys nothing but success in the future and I know this is long and been said to death on here by now, but thank you. Thank you for being the coolest mother fucking fans of this series and making something from from your heart that I will always being carrying in mine. Thank you for these years of amazing story telling and writing and about 100 other things. But most importantly, thank you for being you.

2020-02-09 12:36:19 +0000 UTCAre you able to tell us why the copyright holders wouldnt work with you? Since you cant toot your own horn, I'll do it for you. In america especially you guys were a huge part of reviving or stimulating interest in Dragonball content. Why were the owners of the copyright not open to a revenue sharing deal that would have allowed you guys to monetize your DBZA videos?
Joshua Scafidi
2020-02-09 12:21:45 +0000 UTCI wish I could be surprised, but we've all seen the effort that has gone into DBZA, HU:A. We've all seen the issues regarding copyright and how TFS has been effectively nuked from Orbit. Whilst personally I would have loved to have seen the Bojack movie, as Gohan's last great hurrah before his inevitable decrepitude...perhaps it is better to end it here, with a horse eaten and patricide.

2020-02-09 09:51:33 +0000 UTCTFS has given me so much joy all this time, and I'm always sad when something I love ends. But I completely understand. Things have changed from when DBZA started. There would be nothing worse for the show and for the team than being forced to work on it until you come to hate it. Circumstances can change and evolve so it's better to leave it at its natural end and move on with more projects you can be passionate about rather than hurt yourselves through it. I will still be here for everything you guys do, because you're brilliant and funny and you love what you do, which is what makes TFS so wonderful. We started with DBZA, now let's go forward!

2020-02-09 08:25:34 +0000 UTCThis is incredibly disappointing. I understand where you’re coming from, but I hope you haven’t underestimated how much of your support is directly connected to DBZA, especially after the masterful fakeout and subsequent reveal of Season 4 at the end of Episode 60.

2020-02-09 05:49:29 +0000 UTCI completely understand and I wish you guys the best.

2020-02-09 05:33:02 +0000 UTCWhat about DBCember will you guys continue to do that?

2020-02-09 05:27:31 +0000 UTCI enjoyed the content you guys all put out. And honestly am happy for all the laughs you brought us in the DBZA series over the past couple of years. And I can see fully that moving on is probably for the best. But I am sure as far as the rest of the comment section says, we hope you reconsider. But I support you on you're future decisions. Either way, keep on doing what you guys love

2020-02-09 05:23:23 +0000 UTCHI, I just started as a patron here and I saw this but I'm going to stay. One idea the team should definitely still do is keep a brainstorming board for the flickers of creative ideas if you were to do the Buu saga! Also, you could just skip to Super if the Buu is such a drag but I was really looking forward to your take on school Gohan shenanigans. Much love and I wish the team the best!

2020-02-09 04:37:41 +0000 UTCHey TeamFourStar!! I just found out about your announcement today, and while it does make me a little sad that DBZA is ending, I can’t help but feel like it was the right decision. I have been a fan of your channel ever since I was in 4th grade when I first watched DBZA, where I couldn’t stop laughing throughout the entire first episode. I was also a massive fan of your other works, and I’m just glad that you are still continuing your other works as well. I also just want to say thank you for creating an amazing series of which I have and will continue to be a fan of for years to come. So thank you for everything, and I will continue to support your channels. See ya!!!!

2020-02-09 01:38:27 +0000 UTCMy opinion. I love the show and appreciate everything. Im going to be cynical so forgive me just trying to be real. Where would you be without dbza ? It seems everything is built on that show. To build everything and draw an audience from dbza and then ditch it saying youre concerned about the livelihood of your workers seems backwards because its dbza that has brought the fans and the success.

2020-02-09 01:24:13 +0000 UTCI can't even begin to explain how much joy every fucking minute of this gave me and how the creatuve vision of the series is unbelievably unique and amazing yhough i am sad to see it go i feel its natural your great characters from the cell saga fade away or change the truth is i would of loved to see the buu arc bu there was a small part of me that thought it should end after cell it was your best work episode 60 mad me cry i wasnt sad or really happy but it was just something that i loved and even though i heard it was continuing i acted like this thing i watched for years had ended i knew just like the real buu arc the quality would drop and im glad to see you continue i am not intrested in the other stuff you have created bu that dosent mean i will ever stop supporting you even if DBZA ends i will never forget the ideas the jokes but most importantly i will never forget the community you built with this show your quality never faded the jokes never fell flat i can rewatch every second then go back and rewatch it again this is an amazing thing to be apart of and to see evolve every joke was great every thing you made was high quality but one thing i need is an eastcity westman jersey jokes a side from the bottom of my heart thank you i am hilarious and you will quote ever thing i say. Thank you TFS!!!

2020-02-09 01:14:50 +0000 UTCI sorta saw this coming... I was heavily surprised when you hinted at a Buu continuation in the last episode. I really hope the ShortZ will continue though. Vegeta and Nappa babysitting has to be my absolute favourite from you guys. Also wanna thank you. It was actually DBZA that got me into Dragon Ball at all. Never aired on tv in my country and I was never interested until my boyfriend was watching your content on youtube. Me laughing, thinking it was funny, opened up to the idea that DB might actually be really interesting. And what do you know, years later and my whole life is revolving around the franchise in one way or another. So thank you for many laughs, many rewinds to laugh some more, and thank you for getting me into Dragon Ball!!

2020-02-09 01:01:34 +0000 UTCdbza was amazing, and i can't stress enough how talented you guys evidently are as writers, actors, and more. however, i really just, have no interest in anything else you provide. if you're so intent on pursuing other ventures then it might be better for TFS to just disband, to frank.

2020-02-09 00:22:43 +0000 UTCI only recently discovered DBZA. I feel the need to express myself here because I now realize how much this serie and this team has brought to the table. It's a great piece that I discovered last month and went through in a matter of two days. I enjoyed every bit of it. Every episode got better, and by the end, yes, it felt natural that it stopped here. While DBZ does not end on that, DBZA sure can only push the limits every so often. I'm sad to see it go - for very valid reasons given the economical and political position Youtube puts its creators in - but it's probably for the best. Maybe in a couple of years, the thrill of doing DBZA will come back again, and out of nowhere, you will deliver a new performance that is actually worth watching. Thank you for this.

2020-02-08 22:42:40 +0000 UTCWelp, Another old channel bites the dust, channel's over time to move on Out of all old timey entertainers, only James Rolfe aka AVGN remains, still there's MasakoX 'What-If's' so if that's any consolation

2020-02-08 22:35:45 +0000 UTCHowdy TFS. Not a Patreon due to LOW AS FUCK INCOME. But wanted to say Thank you guys very much for all the work you guys did. I didnt know you guys more or less canceled yesterday for DBZA. And even tho i would still love to see the Bojack Movie cus of all the little bits throughout the series. i would rather the work be YOU GUYS not just another work or "another season done" feel to it. I am looking forward to any other content you guys do. and i do hope the Prince still reviews games. Keep Being Awesome TFS!!!

2020-02-08 20:01:40 +0000 UTCThank you all so much for your hard work. DBZA in my opinion, is more enjoyable to re-watch than the original DBZ. You can really tell how well you know each individual character, and how much time and effort was put into good dialog. After watching DBZA, I tried watching some other anime abridged series, and I found not 1 single watchable abridged series. You did everything right. And as much as I would LOVE to see DBZA for the Buu saga (Which I hated in DBZ) , I do appreciate all the entertainment you guys provided over the years. Good luck in your future endevours!

2020-02-08 19:21:51 +0000 UTCHello, I just wanted to say thank you for all the laughs you've given me the last four years and look forward to what's to come. My only question is: was there a point in time when it stopped being fun and started being a chore? I ask because I know what that feels like.

2020-02-08 19:10:41 +0000 UTCHi. Just wanted to say a few words about what DBZA has meant to me over the years. I have literally memorized every single line of the series. I have done some very weird things(oh my) while breathing it. I combined all the episodes of the series, cloned them, made them fuck each other and ate the baby like Goku eats the horse. I want to go the the Hyperfine Lion Tamer with lots of HETAP! and I want to fill the VOID...void...v.id... and watch it on repeat. i so badly wanted to absorb all that buu saga and become PERFECT, but now, the end is near......on a serious note, thank you so much. You guys have truly made my life better :'-) All the best for all future endeavours; keep on creating quality content
Aman Singhal
2020-02-08 17:32:31 +0000 UTCI'm saddened to hear that DBZA won't continue, as it was the primary thing that caught my interest on your channel. Some of the gaming stuff was funny, but on the flip side FF7MA just couldn't hold my interest at all; even the good parts didn't hold a candle to DBZA, though. With that said, I understand that you have your reasons for not continuing it.

2020-02-08 17:01:55 +0000 UTCThat sounds like it would be awful.

2020-02-08 16:58:42 +0000 UTCHuh not sure if my original went thru, but basically good luck on your future endeavors, in hindsight ya shouldve stayed mum on Buu saga and then surprised us with it, and maybe consider doing the shorts like you did with Dragon Ball Super. Those we friggin hilarious and seem super low effort.
DarkDreamT2 .
2020-02-08 11:16:59 +0000 UTCMan, 2020 so far has just, sucked so much. In hindsight, it woulda been better to not tease Buu at all then surprise us with it down the line like DBZ Kai did.

2020-02-08 06:31:52 +0000 UTCGoing to pay the tens/hundreds of thousands for their legal fees too if they get into trouble with Toei/etc?
Kevin Kerins
2020-02-08 06:20:06 +0000 UTCAnd if they never ended up getting around to it, what then?
Kevin Kerins
2020-02-08 06:17:35 +0000 UTCConsidering DBZA wasn't what the patreon was for, 100% of them got free content where DBZA is concerned. What they paid for was the other stuff, if they didn't watch it, that's on them.
Kevin Kerins
2020-02-08 06:15:46 +0000 UTCWell... Certainly a less happy note to end my day on, but I can't change anything someone else has decided. I wish I could have supported monetarily these past 11 years, but unfortunately I was in middle and high school. If I were in the situation you guys were in, in my opinion, I believe at least getting a hypothetical cast list or even some sample lines of jokes and things from characters that hadn't been introduced in DBZA yet would satisfy the fans mostly. Y'know, like the 3 stages of Buu, the Supreme Kais, Elder Kai, Adolescent Gohan, Videl, Babidi and his helpers, and even for the Bojack movie you guys were trying to put together. Try and come up with jokes or memes that would fit the characters and try and record them or just a simple cast list video. That's just my idea though. In any case, I wish you the best of luck in your future projects
Autry George
2020-02-08 06:07:32 +0000 UTCI'm not one of your Patrons, but as a fan, I come to TFS because you guys are hilarious, not specifically because of DBZA. I want to see you at your best, not keep you trapped in a cage that kills your motivation to make funny stuff.
Stephen Smith
2020-02-08 05:46:44 +0000 UTCI'd love to hear your character voices some more--maybe in an audio production? No tricky animation and much less editing I imagine. Like maybe an audio drama or a podcast, or even a tabletop situation? :) Just thoughts. I've been with you all since 2011 and, as I know you've heard from countless fans, DBZA has been an important part of my life, helping in the good times and the bad times. It'll be sad to see it go, but I'm so glad to have been there for it. <3 Please enjoy my $5/month, regardless of what you use it for. You've more than earned it.
Ricky DiCillo
2020-02-08 05:15:42 +0000 UTCIt's a sad thing to hear, but I'd never want it to become something you all hate to do. Thank you for DBZA. People may not want to admit it, but the parody series helped keep a love of Dragonball alive in the long, LONG years before Super came out. Thank you for the many years of entertainment with the abridged series, & I can't wait to see what you're working on next! :D
KillerCaitie
2020-02-08 04:14:13 +0000 UTCI understand why you're not doing the Buu saga, but I would love to see a new DBZA Kai episode that summarizes the saga DBZA-style.
Branden Lange
2020-02-08 04:03:31 +0000 UTCI feel episode 60 was a great end point for DBZA. I'll be sad to see it go, but I'm looking forward to seeing what you are planning for the future.
Charles Dooley
2020-02-08 03:44:07 +0000 UTCOK crazy idea from someone who is desperate to not see DBZA go. I understand the hardships that you face with copyright and it is BS. Would you ever consider merging with a big company that could protect you guys and give you a safe market to show your videos. Rooster Teeth i feel is a great example of a big Youtube company that started off doing the same work you did and even has a very big site and video library and i would imagine a huge legal staff to protect your abridge work. A merger i think would be groundbreaking in the YT community and would be amazing for you guys.

2020-02-08 00:50:43 +0000 UTCI'm just gonna keep saying it until you do it: in character DBS Broly commentary track. Pay-to-download or a patron exclusive, whatever. Have Movie 8 Broly participate, too. "Oh, so when I do nothing but yell for 20 minutes I'm a joke, but he does nothing but yells for 40 minutes and he's so cool he breaks reality. Ok. Ok. Hug." No animation, no re-writing events. Just characters commenting on what they did. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

2020-02-07 23:19:38 +0000 UTCHey guys, I wanted you to know that I am going to be tossing $5 a month your way from now on. I looooved DBZA but I loved it because you guys are really funny. I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the next project you fall in love with. There will be a transition period where you find your footing again and that is ok. I hope we as a community can see you through this transition because on the other side of it we are going to get something just as good as DBZA but polished from the start.

2020-02-07 22:57:57 +0000 UTCI'm worried for the future of TFS since I haven't liked anything you've put out since DBZA S3 and Hellsing ended, but hopefully youll be able to creat something entertaining enough for me to fall in love with all over again.

2020-02-07 22:07:07 +0000 UTCI'm incredibly grateful for the comedy and quality content you've brought in to my life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'm here to see where you guys go and eagerly awaiting your future work.

2020-02-07 21:38:57 +0000 UTCJaxon, It says right in Kaiser's message that the purpose of the Patreon was to support their creative projects that can be monetized while they also worked on DBZA. It also says that on their main Patreon page. So, to explain this to you, this means that giving money to TFS allowed them to grow as a company, which allowed them to make monetized content, which made them money that allowed them to continue to function as a company, which in turn allowed them to make DBZA. So, if DBZA isn't going to be made anymore, then people who gave TFS money for its creation do not need to continue to do so.

2020-02-07 21:36:51 +0000 UTCOne big issue with the RT comparison: Rooster Teeth brought in new writers and directors for years after the initial few seasons. They burned out and then passed the buck. TFS has been the same crew of writers since the beginning. They've put their hearts and souls into this, and ended it in a manner most satisfactory.

2020-02-07 21:33:14 +0000 UTCNon-contributor, but throwing in my two-cents anyway. it sucks that we won't get the Buu saga, there were several moments I was looking forward to seeing what you guys could do with them, but the Cell saga was a perfect place to end it anyway (I sometimes think DBZ proper should have). And since you guys are still a small company, it makes as much sense from a business perspective as an artistic one not to put all that time and resources into a huge production like long-running original animation (it certainly hasn't done Rooster Teeth any favors and they're a much bigger company by comparison at this point). I still look forward to all the other work you guys do both on the main channel and gaming channel; I'm stoked for the ShortZ, and hey, maybe we could get snippets of scenes from the Buu saga like with Kai or Super (the only scene I really wanted anyway was Lani doing Vegeta's Sacrifice). So do whatever helps you keep a good pace as a business and maintains your artistic integrity for as long as possible.

2020-02-07 21:31:53 +0000 UTCAs sad as I am to see this series end, I have decided to continue supporting you because I am eager to see your creativity and wit applied to other projects!

2020-02-07 21:10:04 +0000 UTCI agree with what you've said DH HD. Also, one of the reasons they say they won't host the series on a different site is because they don't want to bring people away from their hub. Well, I don't see that working out when people like me, and I'm sure others, just stop following them. I do wish them the best in their futures, but I followed them specifically for DBZA. With it being over, I no longer have a reason to continue to follow them.

2020-02-07 20:37:48 +0000 UTCI've been a fan of your all's since a friend of mine sat me down to watch a show she called "Dragon Ball Z: Abridged" and I braced myself for some NewGrounds-style "it's funny cause they yell! It's funny cause they talk fast! It's funny cause they power up forever!"-style jokes, and oh. How wrong. I was. I didn't realize that she'd be introducing me not just to some of the funniest, most clever writing I've seen online, but also rekindle a real passion for the source material. It always pissed me off that you all got copyright claimed so much since LITERALLY every dollar I've spent on official Dragon Ball merch in the last decade can be traced DIRECTLY back to you. And I do hope that ShortZ finds a way into semi-regular rotation, even if it's not continuing the Buu Saga. Just side stories to check in on the DBZA characters would be lovely.

2020-02-07 18:31:59 +0000 UTCWell this is pretty sad to read, but it's understandable why. Honestly I'm just happy you were all able to finish up the Cell Saga. Though I would love to ask if you might consider taking on a new show or perhaps if you already have another one planned?

2020-02-07 18:10:32 +0000 UTCcan't and won't defend EVERYTHING. I mean...neither is Scott. I genuinely do not believe that they would deliberately string people along in order to scam donations. From a goodwill standpoint, I would say on that note the best thing to do would be to offer refunds to anyone who feels unjustly betrayed by donating to this for x amoubt of time solely for DBZA. THAT SAID, I think ceasing a project due to finding it creatively unfulfilling is 100% valid. If there hearts aren't in it then the quality would suffer. The fans arent owed a continuation just because that's not where DBZ stopped. Nor are they owed a continuation just because they like it. If the makers of the show dont like making it anymore, why should they? Worse still, if things have gotten to a point where their career opportunities are being negatively impacted by the show's continued production, then there is DEFINITELY no reason they should be made to continue. Also, you're being quite assumptive here. Nowhere did he say the (incorrect) myth that Toryiama riginally having wanted to end the show in the Cell arc as a factor. He just said the Buu arc wasn't as interesting or desirable for them personally, and after being so satisfied with their work in the Cell arc, they can't find that same passion for Buu. The quality of the show would inevitably suffer and I would rather it end on a high note than get dragged out past its lifespan.

2020-02-07 16:27:57 +0000 UTCI'm gonna be real here. Thank you for the work you have done. Introducing people to the series who wouldn't otherwise watch it. But maybe with you guys stopping, idiots can stop linking this stuff to me. It got annoying real quick.

2020-02-07 15:58:34 +0000 UTCI'm upset, even though I know it's for the best. Hopefully, at some point, you'll revisit the well that is DBZ if only to give me what I need most, Vegeta with a moustache.

2020-02-07 15:14:48 +0000 UTCWhat a bomb to drop. Well, what I will say first and foremost is that I definitely sympathise with burnout, I really do. I also sympathise with the unsure copyright situation and how stressful it probably is, as well as the creatively stunting work you guys likely feel when writing for DBZA. As someone who does a bit of writing myself, it can be the most excruciating thing in the world when you keep hammering away at something to try and make it work, only to instead have it eat at your soul. I can only imagine how limiting an abridged series must be, since you know you need to function within certain parameters whilst still stamping your official "brand" onto it, so to speak. And of course, this also doesn't help when you've got other bits of work to complete. With that said, I can't deny this leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Aside from the fact that I think you guys went about this rather poorly (which you do acknowledge), I'm also of the opinion that citing burnout and a fear of becoming like shows such as The Simpsons is somewhat hollow. The Simpsons (and all the other shows you listed) was a show that needed to air on a weekly basis that took tremendous amounts of time, money and effort to create. Yet even after a decade, they still managed to produce a good programme that only truly began dipping by its 9th season. And unlike DBZA, they didn't have the luxury of a more flexible work schedule or a "clear end" in sight, so to speak. The fact of the matter is that DBZA IS your baby; and it's a baby you've left at the final hurdle. Eleven years is a long time, I get that, but in those eleven years DBZA has brought you money, notoriety, opportunity and popularity. You've made a hobby into a lucrative business, and it's applaudable. Inspiring, even. To go from these semi-expensive USB mics to your own recording booths with professional XLRs. But the fact that the Cell saga was Toriyama's "original" stopping point means little, because he ultimately DIDN'T stop at the Cell saga. I feel as though this line of reasoning I'm seeing people use ("well the Buu Saga isn't even that good! Toriyama meant for the finale to be after Cell, anyway!") is just a coping mechanism, a coping mechanism that ignores not only the Buu saga's strengths, but that it's the very conclusion of Z itself. Putting it another way; hypothetically, if you had told your fans right around the middle of the Namek saga that there WOULD be no Buu, because the Cell saga was where it "felt" like it should end and that the Buu saga would probably just feel like window-dressing, well... People would be furious. Yet somehow, because a sudden update tells them it isn't happening after a year and a half of prior notifications that were drip-fed, they find a way to justify it to themselves. You guys chose to make DBZA something more than a simple series with silly impressions and low-quality microphones like many abridged series were back in the day, (a commendable choice), but that comes with a heavier workload, and it's what you took on. My sympathy only extends so far, here. To be somewhat presumptuous, I've theorised that TFS has been trying to follow the Roosterteeth format for quite a while, now. They were a bunch of dudes who just loved Halo that began the advent of machinima. Through hard work, they transformed it into a brand, into a company, into a multi-media conglomerate worth millions. Really the parallels are interesting. Roosterteeth even cameoed in the very series they loved, much like TFS does in official DBZ work. However... They still produce Red vs Blue. Despite the burnout, which I'm sure they've felt, despite the limiting feel of the setting, despite every tribulation that comes with producing this little series from 2003; they're *STILL* going. They don't need to, I think they could financially survive axing the series at this point, but they continue. Nobody's even asking for this kind of dedication for DBZA, I think everyone understands you'd never do Super or GT. I wish you guys the best of luck, you're all talented and I'm sure you'll keep on going, but from what I've seen, many people are disappointed. It seems the more diehard fans might accuse them of petulance and a lack of empathy, but this isn't the case. I think you guys could've gone about breaking this better (I didn't even really go into the fact that a lot of people were paying this Patreon to be strung along for over a year, which is just rather bad form, regardless of what you say the Patreon was actually for). And in my honest, heartfelt opinion? You should have seen this thing through to its rightful end. Despite the burnout, despite the potential feelings of animosity towards the franchise (something Toriyama is no stranger to); despite the risk of copyright claims and demonetisation this had a true, rightful conclusion and I think it was at least worth a try. In a weird way I almost feel sorry for Vegeta, a parody caricature of a fictional character. His most compelling stories were yet to come.

2020-02-07 15:03:22 +0000 UTCYea would not have had a problem with it ending at the cell saga because originally i believed it would end there. Then you guys constantly promised it would happen getti g the hope of your fans up and keeping people on your patreon paying you for something you said you would do but now decided not too. To those that paid the patreon subsription hoping for dbza content the last year and change i feel bad for you. You got screwed and deserve refunds. This is kinda criminal. The only other watchable content youve made was hellsing abridged, i am subscribed but probably not for much longer.

2020-02-07 13:27:52 +0000 UTCI'm so sad to see this confirmed, but I totally understand. Considering how much of your hearts and souls you all have put into this series, its only natural to get burned out trying to come up with content on the Buu Saga (which lets face it, is the least imaginative saga). I love your work, and I do have hope this Abridged series will continue in some form or another. I agree with many, episode 60 was the perfect finale, and if that is the end I am 100% fine with that.... I will of course not stop hoping for the impossible :)

2020-02-07 13:25:20 +0000 UTCYou guys made some top notch content, and I’ve long suspected this to be the end of DBZA. It was a hell of a ride, and I thank you for all you gave us! It has only added to my enjoyment of the original series, and I cannot thank you guys enough for the laughter you have brought to me and my friends.

2020-02-07 13:03:11 +0000 UTCAs someone who is creative myself, I feel you. Without the passion in the work, it would tank bad. I agree with you that episode 60 seemed like a PERFECT finale. I joined in on watching DBZA at episode 17 and lent my support here on patron and with views on Youtube. It led me to your other content, which I do like as well. Thank you for a wonderful series that brought me back to the original release. I am still staying on to support you here. All the best and I look forward to see where the future takes you.

2020-02-07 12:32:57 +0000 UTCI'm gonna be honest, I really only followed the DBA series and not the others cause I was not a fan of either the original or the parody. I hope y'all for the best, I have no real other reason to follow your channel now. I'll still be subbed, but mostly likely won't be giving views. I may sound like a dick, but I honestly don't mean it in a such a way. I came in for DBA, it ended and now I have no reason to stick around. Best of luck with your work in the future ^^

2020-02-07 12:25:45 +0000 UTCI will only say that it ruins my hopes that one day we would have had the "I need an adult" joke from Goten, with Gohan replying with "I am an adult". Oh well. Good luck to you guys with your futures.

2020-02-07 10:51:51 +0000 UTCOut of curiosity, if you're considering leaving behind DBZA, would that mean a lack of DBZ content on TFS Gaming (such as DBZ: Kakarot) and such? I generally really enjoy watching TFS Gaming, and while I will miss DBZA (it's brought a lot of laughter and tears over the years), I'd still like to see what else you guys have up the pipeline. As a writer myself, I understand that feeling of burning out, and while I doubt I'll ever have a project as big as DBZA, I could only hope to reach that level of brilliant content. So I will stick around to watch your gaming videos, if nothing else; you guys have supported me through a lot of rough patches and made me want to get out of bed on days that I didn't even want to live through. A lot of personal stuff has happened in my personal life and when I don't think I can feel any better, you guys have always been there to make me laugh and smile. So I wanted to thank you for that. I've made plenty of friends thanks to following DBZA, and it was even the reason I got into DBZ; I've never actually watched the anime myself, everything I learnt about the plot of DBZ and such came from a rough understanding of the series, watching DBZA, and playing the games. Hell, your playthrough of Fusions has made me desperate for a sequel, I think I've played through it AT LEAST dozen times since watching your LP of it. So to summarise my thoughts: I'll support whatever you guys decide to do in the future, especially in regards to your gaming content. And I want to thank you guys for making me want to look forward to the future, because without having such hilarious videos to get me through the day, I don't think I'd even be here. If I could, I'd support your Patreon, but the best I can do is just encourage you from the sidelines. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with in the future for your main channel!

2020-02-07 10:51:13 +0000 UTCIt's a shame, but you guys have to do what's best for yourselves. I don't donate a lot to deserve any demands, but if I could make one request, could we please get a DBZA take on Majin Vegeta's speech to Goku and the Supreme Kai at the World's Martial Arts Tournament? That was what I was supremely looking forward. It doesn't have to have video attached, I'd really just like to hear Lani give his best take on how DBZA would have approached the most arguable badass speech in the arc. I'm sure you guys are indeed tired of the process and the effort grinds you down, but I have a sneaking suspicion that one of you would have had a hell of a time with Vegeta's character arc.

2020-02-07 09:54:35 +0000 UTCLending my support to yall through all this. The DBZA series exposed me to Dragon Ball and all its continuations, which as a result kept me going during one of the worst times of my life. While I would give for it to continue forever, it isn't feasible and the end yall came to with episode 60 felt so natural. Like with all good things you love, you have to be ready to let go. I will always support TFS and I can't wait for more future projects and ideas. Do what you have to and best of luck.

2020-02-07 09:26:36 +0000 UTCThat saddens me the most. I can give or take the Buu saga, it has a few cool moments but DBZ definitely should have ended after Cell. But I have a really soft spot for some of the movies, especially Fusion Reborn. I would have loved to see your take on Gogeta (even if he has barely any screen time) - what the hell would a guy with a mix of Goku and Vegeta's personality would be like in your version? I shudder to think.

2020-02-07 08:59:17 +0000 UTCYou couldn't have ended it better than you did, and I'm glad it's ending on a high note. All good stories end, bud.

2020-02-07 07:20:34 +0000 UTCDBZA has been of high quality and fame due to the passion TFS has put into it, and if that passion really has simmered in the last 11+ years. then i can totally understand the need to stop just to avoid having negative feelings on the series. Even Toriyama himself felt some type of animosity during the end of Z, which was sad enough to know. I'd Rather you guys work on something that brings enjoyment to both us and you guys.

2020-02-07 07:13:49 +0000 UTCWhat happens, happens. But I do think you guys have moved beyond Dbza on your own. And hey, if several years down the line you ever feel nostalgic and want to try the buy saga again, you can always pull a kai and release it as DBZA: The final Chapters. Not saying that will happen, but wither way. Thanks for the many, many years of great DBZA content. I will always remember it as another fun version of Z. 2020-02-07 06:50:54 +0000 UTCAs sad as it is to see it go, Episode 60 was definitely perfection and a great way to end. That being said, I wonder if you considered maybe animating key moments from the Buu saga. Obviously you said it wouldn't be using the original footage, and making entire seasons in the CG style of the Shortz would be far too much. But then I recall the way you handled the Super skits. Snippets from here and there in the show up to that point, not even full episodes, but they were gold. Give fans a glimpse of things that could have been. Like Vegeta's goodbye to Trunks and sacrifice, Vegito, some Buu clips, etc.

2020-02-07 05:04:51 +0000 UTCI don't think anyone would complain of you did a DBZA episode 5 with no build up or context... Personally, I'd settle just for an episode 4 covering the Cell saga before closing up shop, but one can dream ;)

2020-02-07 05:04:00 +0000 UTCPersonally, I think this stems back to how a lot of people can admit they feel about DBZ- creatively, it really could have ended after Cell Saga. I know a lot of cool stuff has happened since, and I personally loved the Anime Tournament of Power, as well as the Broly movie. But creatively? It doesn't really have a new story to tell. Like some of the other examples Kaiser gave, the Simpsons , Garfield- it's continued long after it kind of played out any truly new ground. Buu Saga is where that really starts to get felt. Where one-time mainstays like Piccolo, Krillin, Tien, have absolutely NOTHING to do. Teenage Gohan at school and Goku vs Majin Vegeta abridged would have been amazing, no doubt. But can we REALLY say we don't know how they play out from here? And is it worth all the other problems Kaiserneko pointed out? I've been a subscriber for a long time, because I wanted to support all the content they create. 11 years is a long time for ANYTHING to be your main project, and they ended it the best way they could. We have a good ending. I was honestly shocked at the initial announcement that they planned to keep going at all, knowing the copyright issues. Maybe I just saw it coming before they did. In any case, I want to say thanks for turning the silly alien-martial-arts drama of my childhood into something truly incredible over the past decade. I'm excited to see what they do next, and wish them the best.

2020-02-07 04:53:16 +0000 UTCGang, words cannot express how grateful we are as a community for the incredible series you've done. Your hard work and incredible knowledge of the anime, manga, and community have created a once-in-a-lifetime experience that no one could recreate. Your jokes and skits have become even more memorable (and quotable) than even the original material. I expect most fans will feel a small morsel of disappointment, because of course we don't want the piffy one liners or the Krillin Owned counter to end. But none of us should be mad at you. You deserve respect for recognizing the tedium and not wanting to produce worse content from burnout. You've earned your rest. Thank you again, I look forward to your future content as well!

2020-02-07 04:38:26 +0000 UTCWhile I do wish that you would finish up Dragonball Z Abridged, I understand your decision(s) quite well. 11 years is a LONG time to be working on the same thing. I am working on an abridged series myself. One that was inspired by Final Fantasy 7 Machinabridged, and I expect it may take around six seasons for it to be complete (I've already done one season though). Is there any advice you can offer to someone like me who wants to make his abridged series stand out the same way yours did?

2020-02-07 04:37:49 +0000 UTCScott here! We've gotten a lot of people asking us to get rid of the stinger. So, at their behest, we have using YouTube's editing tool.

2020-02-07 04:26:53 +0000 UTCIt's been a wonderful 11 years, and while I'm sad for it to go, I'm glad to have been here to see the end of it all. Ride on, you crazy dragon-wishing bastards, ride on.

2020-02-07 04:22:05 +0000 UTCWhile I am not a patron here, I am a subscriber on twitch (one year strong!) and all I can say is what I said when the last episode of Cell Saga aired. It is sad to see it go, but you guys are the lifeblood of TFS and not the content you make. I hope all the best for everything you do in the coming times, and I know you will do your best. Keep it up guys!

2020-02-07 04:21:56 +0000 UTCWhat about using the original footage for something more like the Cell vs. series?

2020-02-07 04:16:13 +0000 UTCDo you see yourself possibly reuploading episode 60, part 3 to omit the season 4 announcement? Having that lingering has gotta be bothersome right?

2020-02-07 04:15:39 +0000 UTCWhile this is sad news, I am excited for new projects from y'all! The Cell Saga was a perfect ending for DBZA and like so many things going into this new decade, a close to a wonderful time in our lives we'll always remember!

2020-02-07 04:12:10 +0000 UTCAlthough bummed I can understand the reasoning here, all the same thank you for so many laughs and badass moments with DBZA Kaiser, you and everyone else involved are freaking amazing and inspiring as hell

2020-02-07 04:11:53 +0000 UTCThis is heartbreaking to hear. I've watched your DBZA vdeos hundreds of times. I quite literally had the entire playlist on loop while writing my Thesis in College. It sounds silly, but you guys have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I was a kid when I first say your content. Which is exactly why I am saying: Please be happy. Please keep laughing and bullshitting with your friends. Please keep being wonderful people. Because I didn't just fall in love with DBZA, I fell in love with the people behind it. I'd be lying if I said I was interested in all the things you're working on. But as long as you're happy with the work you're doing, that's all I can ask.

2020-02-07 04:05:34 +0000 UTCTo all whom are Mad at TFS, I am going to start this off with a message to those that need to vent there current hate towards TFS for this choice, please do so, it is healthy to vent. But please understand that Companies like TFS who start with parady content. Will always in the end have to make it less about the parady work. And more about original content to last in the long run. To TFS, I do hope you are planning to release an official video announcement on this in the next four days. And expect more mixed comments like you have here, with just like politics, those that have the most hate being heard the loudest because that just seems how formula's work these days. Which is sad for I know a lot of people will support this tough choice. Personal thoughts, Personally, I do not disagree with TFS choose here. I know I see a lot of hate comments here, how TFS is betraying the fans and that they never should have promised Bojack and the Buu saga. But at the time they truly thought that there burnout was not big enough to hinder them creatively to make said content. Honestly, I think TFS needs this to expand the company in a positive way. Most of TFS members area grey listed when it comes to voice acting jobs and other gigs do to the abridgement work they produce. And if they cut loose their abridging tides for now, they can get into better agreements with the bigger companies Like Toai. Which could lead to more official Dubbing work for TFS like they got with "HELLS" Heck, they even said in the end that they them selves do not know for sure if abridgment work will be gone forever. But the Burnout they got is a harsh one. Personally, I could see them after a minimum of 5 years doing their own original work, they get their drive back to do abridgement again. And in that time they could get in great relationships with the companies that actual own the content and either get permission or could even get offers to do abridgement of old work, while that is a long stretch, it is not out of the realm of possibility for DBZA abridge references are popping up in some bigger company projects. To those that need to vent Disappointment, go ahead, is a healthy thing to do. And who knows, while I don't think they should for years, they might continue making abridge content for all you enjoyment till they get taken down forever which is still a possibility in there line of work then you will all just complain about the fact that TFS is no longer a company. I mean heck, Just what if, what if them doing this in the long run, Toai and all the other owners of the Dragon Ball franchise start to like TFS more, and they get an official Dragon Ball Z game. Impossible you might say, and with current standings yes, but if they get better relationships, it might happen. For I do agree with a lot of people, that I highly doubt Dragon Ball Super would have been even considered if it where not for the big companies noticing TFS DBZA and just seeing how many fans around the globe still love Dragon Ball content.

2020-02-07 04:02:05 +0000 UTCThe end of the Cell Saga was a moment I still remember to this day. It is the only time the end of a series has left me completely satisfied in every way, to the point that even hoping for a season 4 felt greedy. Would I have liked season 4? Probably, but I would have liked it because you made it, not because it was DBZA specifically. Besides, at the moment I'm more focused on Eloy's first battle against a headmaster, and there's a lot more to catch up on after that.
James E Miller
2020-02-07 03:54:14 +0000 UTCSad to see the series end but I cant think of a better end you guys could have given it then the one you gave us. So from the bottom of my heart thank you. I am seriously looking forward to what other great stuff your creative minds have and will come up with. Keep on keeping dudes and may your future always be bright!

2020-02-07 03:52:05 +0000 UTCI certainly don't believe that people should be given their money back, simply because TFS have tried to convey numerous times that the patron isn't exclusive to dbza. If people are chipping in for TFS, then they should know it's for TFS as a whole. While I agree keeping the audience in the dark for so long is quite a stupid move, monetary wise, they should already know that the patronage goes to the company not the individual project

2020-02-07 03:51:55 +0000 UTCScott here! Unlikely; our goal is to get away from using copyrighted footage and focus less legally-questionable content. Also, to be honest... most of the big moments in DBZA only worked because we built up to them. They wouldn't be the same if we just did them in isolation, y'know?
Team Four Star
2020-02-07 03:48:40 +0000 UTCI have a question about which I am curious: Will y'all be doing more stuff with voice acting? You mentioned that it caused some strains in your ability to do stuff, and I guess I just really like y'all as writers and voice actors. It's reasonable that nothing is there right now, or that you can't announce it if it IS, but is there at least a chance that you'll be doing things there? Because honestly, I think y'all are outrageously good at it, and that's really what I'd like more than anything. It being DBZA specifically doesn't much matter to me, but hearing y'all do stuff, and writing stuff would be aces regardless. And especially if it potentially means you'll maybe get to do some more official things then that'd be super awesome. I'd be psyched for that at least.
Doug Wills
2020-02-07 03:43:07 +0000 UTCI understand entirely why you would want to end on a high note like this, but might you at least consider doing the high points of the arc? Like, none of the stuff that burns you out, just stuff like the Final Atonement, Vegito, etc.? I don't want you to feel pressure or hatred over this decision to cancel the series, I just wanted to ask if you could do that. But if you don't want to, then there's nothing to be done.

2020-02-07 03:37:39 +0000 UTCYour hard work, love and creativity have given innumerable amounts of fans nearly a decades worth of joy. Nothing can ever take that away from you. Nothing ever should take that away. That absolute wonderment, hilarity, and stories around what you've shared mean the world, not just to me, but I'm sure plenty others as well. I look forward to what more is to come and tho this is an end to one part of Team Four Star, I can't wait to see the next chapter. Please continue creating, and delighting us with whatever lifts you up as much as DBZA did.

2020-02-07 03:28:29 +0000 UTCIt was a great series while it lasted and honestly, I still find entertainment value in re-watching the entire series as it is, so there really isn't a real need for the buu saga, we all greatly appreciate the hard work that went into this series and wish you the best on all your other projects I personally can't be a patron cause im a broke bum still leeching off family to sustain a living but I will do all I can to cheer you on from the sidelines and provide a less materialistic investment in the form of moral support :) keep it up you guys and on the note of being a broke bum(odd way to start this off but screw it I already started right?) I've been freelance acting ever since I was just a kid, I always did have the ambition to become a legitimate actor but never really found a place I wanted to start getting some experience in a more professional setting, so with that being said, if you ever need an empty position filled for whatever project you are doing, consider getting in touch with me, it'd be my pleasure and a great honor to help the group that created one of my all time favorite animation series on youtube

2020-02-07 03:21:14 +0000 UTCActually, that's just being a salty ungrateful fan. While it's unfortunate, they don't owe you, nor anyone, anything. If you think they're doing this to screw with fans, who by a decent majority, got free content of theirs(maybe not even subscribing), then you don't deserve another season.

2020-02-07 03:01:47 +0000 UTCWhile I find this news deeply saddening I can feel where you're coming from. And as far as the Buu saga goes, it may be the final season of Dragon Ball Z but let's face it, it's the weakest arc of the lot.

2020-02-07 02:53:32 +0000 UTCI got to say im torn. I understand and respect your decision as a creator myself, i understand the stress it can cause with the team your with, but im very saddened with it as well. 2020-02-07 02:38:34 +0000 UTCthat's fine you guys are under constant scrutiny with youtube and Toei. it's not fair. I'm still a fan of you guys not the show I'll watch anything you guys produce.

2020-02-07 02:36:31 +0000 UTCI understand your decision, but I am nevertheless very disappointed. I would have preferred to hear about an indefinite hiatus, maybe even lasting years, rather than an outright cancellation. I would have waited patiently throughout, but I need to be honest when I say that DBZA was my only reason for supporting you. I'm a DBZA fan, not a TFS fan. I wish you all the best.

2020-02-07 02:22:26 +0000 UTCif i was to suggest anything of the sort of asking them to continue dbza it would be in the format of DBZA Kai. I just finished the cell saga in dbz: kakarot and cried, felt really nostalgic of my 14-15 year old self(if i was even that old) and i wanted to put the game down because it felt like the "PERFECT" end. I feel ep.60 was the same. Sooooo if original footage was to be used I would say do like they do KAI and make a complete mockery of it and have fun. cause the buu arc is shit anyways other than Vegeta's ONE scene. (which i wouldnt mind see lani dub his good bye scene either if that was it)
John Mitchell
2020-02-07 02:15:32 +0000 UTCAll Good Things Must Come To An End... and so has DBZA. Fortunately, episode 60 was one HELL of a finale, so much so that I was honestly dreading Season 4, as there seemed to be no way you could top 60. While disappointed that you won't be continuing, I'd much rather have 60 episodes ending on a glorious high note than 100 episodes that completely lose their way and fizzle out, as it seems like you guys felt like it would. You guys are great, and even if I end up disliking any or all of your new material (which I hope to Dende I don't), I'll still always love DBZA, as well as a bunch of your gaming channel stuff. Thank you for 11 years of wonderful content (even if I didn't know about you for all of it)!

2020-02-07 01:59:19 +0000 UTCWatching part 3 of episode 60, i felt a "they're going to end it" knot in my stomach, followed by a bit of relief and excitement when the Season 4 ending tag came up. So it is tough to hear now that the show is finished. Your work has been a part of my home for several years. I used to play it to fall asleep to, even as a grown ass adult. You can be proud of all you've done and all you've accomplished. Keep your heads up, and always do the right thing - and you'll go far, no matter where your work takes you.

2020-02-07 01:43:14 +0000 UTCI thank you all the time, love, laughter, happiness, tears, anger and everything else over the years. Thank you for the 11 years of service, Though I'd love to stay as a patron and continue you to support you guys in all your endeavors, but to fact that your main big project is canceled till the foreseeable future and your other projects are a bit inconsistent in terms of release. It's not that I don't trust the contents quality, you guys do excellent work, it just the consistency of the content releases and the transparency of the information is too big of an issue for me to continue supporting you on more independent projects. A steady release of podcasts and gaming streams is not the type of content I wish to support from you guys and I put trust that they were being made so something could be made and that the big content was being worked on in the background, but a cancellation of a big project is too much for me continue my patronage at this time. I once again I can not thank you enough for all the memories, emotions, both good and bad that you have brought me over the years through DBZA, TFS plays, DBcember and every other thing you guys have had a hand in. So with a heavy heart I must say goodbye and I wish you luck to the rest of your projects, and lives.

2020-02-07 01:36:24 +0000 UTCbummer, was looking forward to seeing what you did with the Buu Saga and possibly beyond but I get it. You gotta do what's best for you. 2020-02-07 01:29:33 +0000 UTCI'm getting a lot of vibes similar to the finale of Good Place. You guys have been at this for what seems like forever and one day you wake up and realize that you're not having fun (or at least as much fun) doing this thing anymore. Something inside you says that it's time to stop and move on to something else, and even though it might be scary not knowing what on the other side of that door. You're happy going towards something different because you just feel that it's time. Episode 60 was an amazing finale and you guys certainly did end the series on a high note. And I look forward to supporting you guys through this brand new chapter of your careers. Looking forward to more content from you guys ^^
Anthony Ray Morales
2020-02-07 01:29:17 +0000 UTCIs doing smaller projects (say 2-3 minute clips) with the original footage legally or economically viable? Seems like a way you could keep a bit of the traditional DBZA feel while producing something that was more unambiguously transformative.

2020-02-07 01:11:03 +0000 UTCIf I can be brutally honest, while I completely understand why it is being discontinued, I still can't help but be disappointed. I was never a fan of unabridged, personally don't care for live action stuff of that nature. When it was announced there would be no Bojack I felt like I had been punched in the gut and this announcement feels like I got kicked in the head. I was so looking forward to season 4 that was teased, I was curious how you were gonna make Mr. Satan into the true hero he is, how you would portray Buu, and how you would have him brutally murder Babidi, and how you'd make the supreme kai into a little bitch. I can understand burnout, truly I do, and how it can completely sap you of ideas and motivation, but at the same time so few people in my life have delivered on their promises and you guys were one of the few who, while we have never met, I felt I could always count on. I just need time to process this, but I will continue to contribute, you guys are creative mad geniuses and it would be wrong of me to stop contributing to that.
Mars Project
2020-02-07 01:06:50 +0000 UTCSucks to hear but I'd rather you guys close up shop on the series rather than force yourself to make what you have work. That said, you guys have done such great stuff and grown over the years and wouldn't mind seeing what you have in store :)

2020-02-07 01:03:29 +0000 UTCI will pay top tier if you just make season 4 you got that if I see episode 1 of season 4 I will put money down that very second so just make it

2020-02-07 00:50:39 +0000 UTCI honestly expected this when 60 was dropped because of the "joke" about it being the finale. The most disappointing thing about this entire process has been the lack of communication. I understand that decisions take time to be made but there were many leading threads. The lack of communication with the fanbase has been a big disappointment for a while now and I feel like it started around the time that Ben left. I'm not saying that it's directly responsible because correlation =/= causation but it's frustrating nonetheless. I'll continue to support you guys because I'm here for your specific brand of comedy and personality. I love you guys, keep being you.
Derrick Perkins
2020-02-07 00:47:38 +0000 UTCThanks for the 11 years of DBZA. To be honest, I had always expected you’d end it with the Cell Saga, and it was more surprising than anything when it seemed like you were doing a season 4. It’s not really disappointing that you decided to walk that back (and given how aggressive that ContentID system is, it’s kind of a miracle the channel didn’t get nuked).
Brett
2020-02-07 00:29:40 +0000 UTCThanks for the decade of DBZA; I remember watching the first season as it came out and it's been a wonderful ride ever since. Do you guys have a final piece of abridged content planned as a capper to the series? While the ending to 60 was really good, I'd appreciate the closure a hardline "That's all folks" would bring.
BearNBird
2020-02-07 00:29:35 +0000 UTCI will miss the Abridged, but thank you so much for all the years of great content, both DBZA related and not. I constantly quote you're stuff with my friends and have a great time. Thank you for so many great memories and I can't wait for what you do next.

2020-02-07 00:29:09 +0000 UTCA suggestion, perhaps, to bridge the gap. I grew up with the DVD boom, and I really love commentary tracks. I watched the DBZA Marathon with you guys sharing stories till twitch killed it (Which if you had a copy of that putting it back up would be great) But perhaps a series of commentaries for an episode, or group of episodes, with the gang just talking about specific aspects, or more in depth process, or just "Hey we're together let's riff on this old episode" which would bring life back into the classics we have without necessarily adding more work. Also if it's done pure audio it can be uploaded separate from the episode so you can just sort of listen along to a replay.
Siyu
2020-02-07 00:26:00 +0000 UTCYou guys provided 60 episodes and several movies worth of pure, genuine entertainment over the span of 11 years, and still managed to keep it faithful to DBZ proper, and even improved on some aspects. That alone warrants keeping the funding going. Keep doing what you guys do, we'll keep being entertained, just in a different way then we've been used to. Like ya said, there's still the ShortZ and Cell Vs. (Maybe, cuz the Bobby Hill one was frigging incredible) and hopefully still a DBCember list. But I think most of us, DBZA or not, are in it for the long haul.
Third-Rate Nerds
2020-02-07 00:19:54 +0000 UTCI enjoy it too, but it's not all that it could be. Plus, it's a good example as there were many arguments behind the scenes about its production. In fact, Sam Raimi didn't want to put Venom in the film. He wanted to focus on the other villains, but Sony made him shove Venom into it so they could market things the way they wanted, completely disregarding what he wanted to do with the story and characters. He was forced to work on something he didn't even like. I may not personally hate the film, but it took a serious toll on the creator and I believe the movie shows that. That same thing would happen to our beloved TeamFourStar if they continued with abridging DBZ. They'd be forced to work on something they aren't fully invested in all for the sake of someone else instead of their own true passions. While it may come out serviceable, it wouldn't be everything it could be because it wouldn't be from the heart.

2020-02-07 00:19:07 +0000 UTCThank you for all the years of great DBZA content. One question I have is will you guys do kore with Four Star Bento? I miss the informative content on that channel. Would love to see more done with it.

2020-02-07 00:17:02 +0000 UTCYou mentioned Fist master in your list of content is that ever coming out with more episodes? Or did that just kinda die off?

2020-02-07 00:14:15 +0000 UTCI find myself strangely at peace with this announcement. I was struggling with the concept of Season 4 using original animation because I didn't think you would be able to fully capture the same elements of Dragon Ball that exist in the original show (The best examples I can think of this are all the jokes about Battle Ball and animation/"Did I just see his foot?" style humor, which is where DBZA really shined for me). Some may call it me being stubborn, but I'd rather there be no DBZA than a DBZA that isn't living up to anyone's, including your own, standards. I'd probably be much more disappointed by this, but I found it strangely relatable since I felt a similar situation myself. I am currently suffering a creative burnout on some of the things I have been able to make and am unclear on whether to stop and disappoint fans or keep going at the expense of quality/passion. When I see you guys making this decision, I find it respectable and allows Seasons 1-3 to be immortalized as great assets to the community, Dragon Ball, and creativity in of itself. You've inspired me more than anyone else, and I look forward to seeing that creativity shine in other forms. My question is, how does Scott feel about all of this going on? This can't be an easy thing to be going through.

2020-02-07 00:09:29 +0000 UTCJaxon, If your sad attempts at white knighting are over, then let me direct you to the first linked image on the page for the Patreon. See what that is? It is a link to one of their movies for DBZA. DBZA has been one of the cornerstone series that TFS has produced. The Patreon is shown as a way to support ALL of the works that TFS produces, and the largest one that they have is DBZA, as that is the one that is front and center on their page. So, if AbsintheandCoffee supported TFS for their most prominent series, and then they discontinued it despite that support, then anger, frustration, and discontinuation of patronage is an understandable response. Edit: For posterity, this comment was made in response to someone named Jaxon, who said to AbsintheandCoffee that it was their fault that they used Patreon to support TFS for DBZA. That comment has since been deleted, it seems.

2020-02-07 00:04:49 +0000 UTCWell it is understandable, I liken this to when Rockstar reneged on their promise to deliver single player story DLC for GTA V and instead they directed all their attention to GTA Online, and for those like me that really didn't want to be forced to play online with others to experience content like Doomsday Heist and Casino Heist(all of which were originally meant to be in the single player)it felt like a real kick in the nuts and a betrayal, now I don't hold nearly as much ill-will towards TFS as I do towards Rockstar, but all the same the promise for season 4 was made(if there never was any such promise made I don't think the backlash would've been nearly as big). Channel Awesome was in a similar position, Doug Walker wanted to stop doing NC for a variety of reasons and copyright was one of them(especially with SOPA/PIPA breathing down the necks of internet reviewers)and Demo Reel was supposed to be a way to get around that, but ultimately the audience just wasn't there and it decreased traffic to CA's site as a whole and eventually NC had to come back, but ultimately the break led to Doug rediscovering his passion for NC and though it was a different show then before it definitely still felt unmistakably NC, and while I know people have mixed feelings about CA these days due to CTC(I used to be on CTC's side til I discovered certain people that contributed to it were lying hypocrites, but I won't get into that here, go to the CA sub-reddit if you want the full details on that) you can't deny that it's pretty damn impressive that Doug was been consistently doing reviews for over a decade, that's the kind of work ethic I can totally respect, sure some experiments didn't work(The Wall review was an interesting idea on paper but not well executed, and I never cared for the clipless reviews as I felt like they missed the whole point of NC which was about older films from ones childhood, not current ones playing in theaters) but overall i'm happy NC was brought back and most fans were as well. So I could see a scenario like that happening with TFS(Hey a guy can dream can't he?).

2020-02-07 00:02:13 +0000 UTCI wonder the same thing, there's got to be other people out there who are itching to do their own abridged take on DBZA but never did because they felt like they could never top TFS, but now that DBZA is dead it presents a big opportunity for other talented folks to step in and pick up where they left off(personally i'd call it DBZ Digest) i'm also legitimately curious if any of the other VAs for DBZA would be open to reprising their roles on a new DBZA series by another channel if such a thing did ever happen.
LifeIsStrange
2020-02-06 23:51:26 +0000 UTCSo got a legitimate question for you teamfourstar. Would there be ANY possibility of you guys allowing someone else, say a MAJOR fan of yours, to continue the legacy? If someone were to accept these risks and make their own version, would you have ANY intrest in allowing it?
The Shadow Fox
2020-02-06 23:48:40 +0000 UTCYeah this whole thing feels very deja vu, I remember when Doug Walker ended Nostalgia Critic for similar reasons as those listed above and tried to do Demo Reel to fulfill his creative ambitions(and also avoid strikes and claims, as the whole SOPA/PIPA thing really rattled a lot of internet reviewers cages at the time) but ultimately it was nowhere near as popular as NC was and the drop-off in viewers was so bad that it actually started decreasing traffic to Channel Awesome as a whole, so ultimately a decision had to be made to bring NC back to stop CA from going away altogether and I can't help but forsee something like that happening here, the Shortz will likely get nowhere near as many views as DBZA episodes and now that most people know for sure that there will be no more DBZA the ratings will likely only decrease even worse and that could decrease viewership across the entire channel, so ultimately TFS eventually may not have any real choice but to go back to doing DBZA if they want to survive.
LifeIsStrange
2020-02-06 23:45:35 +0000 UTCAs a way to compensate the patrons who funded for DBZA make a poll here of what they would like you to do as some sort of a consolidation. In the poll could be these choices for example: Long form dicussion of favorite characters, Sagas, video games... you get it. Just give us some sort of Dragon Ball content as consolidation.
ZEKKEN
2020-02-06 23:38:19 +0000 UTCi'm sad that this is the end of DBZA but still hyped for future content you guys make!! whatever it is i'll watch it
Sam Milne
2020-02-06 23:28:02 +0000 UTCYeah and if you were giving them money just for DBZA, then that’s your own fault as that was never the intent of the Patreon. The Patreon was made to find all other projects besides DBZA. Scott even mentioned that in his message above...

2020-02-06 23:19:37 +0000 UTCKaiser, I've been a patron since the Summer of 2015, and I've been watching your content since I discovered it in early 2011 in my Freshman dorm at college. I've stuck through long droughts of content in the past, as I understood the immense strain that you and everyone else at TFS put yourselves through to create DBZA. The amount of joy that you guys have brought me, and my wife after I introduced her to your content, is something beyond compare. We still reference and quote DBZA and Hellsing to each other on a daily basis, even though they both ended over a year ago now. I know that you guys were working hard on trying to deliver Bojack. I remember hearing before this announcement today about how you guys put more effort into that than even the Broly movie, and I genuinely believe that you guys gave it your all and suffered from burnout because of it. You guys are hard workers, and that deserves to be commended. With all of that being said, the way you guys have handled communicating with your patrons after your burnout has been... less than optimal, to put it nicely. I know that you guys probably didn't announce that you were discontinuing DBZA earlier because you were probably trying to figure out how you could continue DBZA even after your burnout. I get that. My wife and I still feel like we were a little strung along, though. I knew when Episode 60 aired that it might be the end of DBZA, and I was fine with that. But then there was the tease that it would continue, and that kept the hope alive that it wouldn't end. To find that it was all ultimately for nothing is greatly disappointing to the both of us. I've watched some of your other content. Apart from Hellsing, nothing has ever really grabbed me like DBZA, though. And if there isn't going to be anything like either of those series in the future, then I think this is it for me. Best wishes to you and the rest of the Team Four Star crew, Kaiser. It's been a fun ride. - Patrick

2020-02-06 23:17:36 +0000 UTCPeople have a right to be mad, especially if you promise something and don't deliver on it, reminds me of when Rockstar promised single-player story DLC for GTA V and instead they focused entirely on GTA Online.

2020-02-06 23:15:38 +0000 UTCAt least LK hasn't cancelled his show so i'm not too worried about that.
LifeIsStrange
2020-02-06 23:15:34 +0000 UTCYes indeed, I hope someone else decides to down their own take on DBZA and finish up the series now that we know for sure it's not happening again and wouldn't it be great if whoever starts up the new DBZA pulls in more views then TFS's non-DBZA videos get?
LifeIsStrange
2020-02-06 23:15:07 +0000 UTCI for one think Simpsons is still great and funny. Now that we know for sure DBZA is no more, i'm hoping that someone else steps in and picks up where you left off by doing their own version of DBZA(i'd call it DBZ Digest), would you be OK with someone else doing that? If that did happen, i'd look at it as being akin to when DBZ switched from the Ocean cast to an in-house cast, it took a bit of getting used to for those that grew up with the Ocean version but eventually it felt natural and i'm sure there's other people out there equally talented as you all that could do a damn good job with the Buu Saga and the remaining DBZ movies(and maybe Dragon Ball and GT as well), so I don't begrudge you for not feeling like doing it anymore.

2020-02-06 23:10:01 +0000 UTCWe always loved the idea of continuing the Abridged style of parody with other content. But unfortunately, it comes with too many creative constraints, and legal and financial risks. That being said... I always wanted to do something fun with FLCL. - Scott "KaiserNeko" Frerichs

2020-02-06 23:08:43 +0000 UTCI know that this choice isn't the easiest one for you guys, and I have mad respect for you all for making it. I love DBZA, and Machineabridged, and Hellsing Abridged.....and I really look forward to all your projects in the future. One question I really have to ask though is: are there any other shows, or games that you have considered making Abridged series of?
Steve Sharofsky
2020-02-06 23:01:59 +0000 UTCScott here! We have a lot of productions currently. Unabridged, our live-action series, will be out around Spring-time. This is one I'm exceptionally excited for, due to its creative freedom and experimental nature. We're also working on the finale of FFVII Machinabridged, more X Minutes, episodes of the DragonShortZ, Curt's series "AWF" (hopefully we'll have more of that to show soon), as well as some things Kirran and Grant are working on, along with our streams like the Talkcast Podshow, Reviews, and some more experimental content along the way.
Team Four Star
2020-02-06 23:01:30 +0000 UTCI'm going to be keeping my support going here, DBZA is the main thing you did that was my favourite thing, but over time all of your other endeavours are very enjoyable mainly due to everyone who is at the TFS office being great personalities in your streams and other shows. Looking forward to the rest of the content that is being planned in the future.
GXS50
2020-02-06 23:00:28 +0000 UTCScott here! No, we plan to allow what's there to remain. We've already gone through the rigmarole with them and content claims. This decision is to negate further risk in the future.
Team Four Star
2020-02-06 22:58:14 +0000 UTCScott here! After FFVIIMA is over, we will no longer be making Abridged series. The nature of that particular beast is too unpredictable legally and financially, and constricts our ability as comedians and generally as writers. We want to focus more on building our own brand outside of copyrighted content; though parody will continue to remain a part of our brand.
Team Four Star
2020-02-06 22:56:18 +0000 UTCScott here! We would love a consistent schedule. However, at the moment we're focused mainly on their production and release as soon as they are finished. They range between 2-5 minutes, without much sign of running longer, currently.
Team Four Star
2020-02-06 22:51:39 +0000 UTCHonestly, this is disappointing as hell. Give these people their money back. I'm guessing the vast majority were expecting more DBZA. You let us down, and I really am sorry for that.
James
2020-02-06 22:48:36 +0000 UTCUnabridged is going to release during this Spring, on a weekly basis. It's the reason we've been stockpiling them instead of releasing them in our original manner, and we'll continue with this method for our creative content in the future.
Team Four Star
2020-02-06 22:47:25 +0000 UTCScott here! Unfortunately this decision extends to all films, series, etc. We always hate to disappoint, but we stand by the reasons we've given. The ShortZ will be the only future DragonBall content we are going to produce moving forward and will likely only deal with pre-Buu material.
Team Four Star
2020-02-06 22:45:53 +0000 UTCI support you entirely. This is bullshit.
James
2020-02-06 22:45:34 +0000 UTCScott here! Yep. We're working on the Finale now. I've heard it's going to essentially be film length! Though that may change during the production process. Thank you so much for your support and we hope that we can continue to bring you entertainment going forward.
Team Four Star
2020-02-06 22:42:23 +0000 UTCIm actually really glad you guys decided to handle it this way, the end of the cell saga was perfect and being along for the ride was a blast. maybe one day buu or gohan in highschool could be a movie style epilogue if yall really miss it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2020-02-06 22:37:11 +0000 UTCScott here! Unabridged, our experimental live-action series, will be out around Spring-time. 2020-02-06 22:36:13 +0000 UTCHey, TFS. I recently got to interact with all of you at AWA 2019, and I said what I said then, but I’ll said it again. It was never about DBZA to me. Sure, it was what brought me in, but I never even liked dragon ball growing up. What brought me here and kept me here was you. You alone. Kaiser, Lani, Hbi (even though he isn’t part of the company anymore), Grant, Taka, Zito, Kirran, and everyone else in the company are what made me stick around. Everything you guys have done have brought a smile to my face and brought happiness to my monotonous existence. So do what you need to do for all of you; just do one thing for me. One thing. I said it at the con. And I’ll say it here. Keep existing. And if the time comes that you’re ever in my area again, I’ll make good on that promise to buy y’all dinner.
TeraTremolo
2020-02-06 22:30:52 +0000 UTCI am a very fresh patron but I didn’t do it because of DBZA. I got everything I needed from episode 60. I wanted to support you guys for so long and I finally could. I can’t wait for Unabridged and every other project you guys end up making. Thank you for the YEARS of entertainment!
Joey Waite
2020-02-06 22:29:25 +0000 UTCSo where are you going to put your creative energies and time now that you are no longer focusing on DBZA?
Zachary
2020-02-06 22:18:49 +0000 UTCThanks for setting the record straight, Scott. There has been some conflicting information up until now, so this clarity is really appreciated. I believe I understand where you, Nick and Curt are coming from when you talk about the pressure to work on something beyond the point of being passionate for it. Something tells me that if you felt you could make the Buu Saga work and enjoy the production of it, the rest of the points on this list wouldn't hold you back. Although painful, it might be a good idea to go back to Episode 30 part 3 and edit the ending to remove the promise of the Buu Saga and really put a full stop at the end of DBZA. As far as continuing support for you here on Patreon: whilst you continue to be a source of joy, it will be my pleasure to continue to help fund your projects with you.

2020-02-06 22:02:25 +0000 UTCI loved the Buu Saga, but I do respect your decision, it’s just sad, like an end of an era, I’m kind of depressed, but I do love your machinabridged and some of your TFS plays (especially Krillin Plays) I do wish it would continue and with all the movies, but I understand the end to end something because you don’t like working on it, but I do hope at one point in the future you return to it, same with how the Nostalgia Critic and others return, but at least Ep 60 was an epic conclusion, keep up the good work, sorry to hear about all of this

2020-02-06 21:55:11 +0000 UTCWhile there were certainly things that I wanted to see you guys do in the Buu Saga, a part of me hoped that episode 60 would be the end. It was perfect, I could feel the love poured into it. I stopped watching you guys solely for DBZA a long time ago, so saying goodbye to it isn't all that hard for me. I love you guys as people, I love your comedy and group dynamics. In the end, I think I can actually be happy with this decision. I had to cancel my subscription a while ago because it was no longer financially sustainable for me, but now I'm in a place where I can and will again. Thank you TeamFourStar.

2020-02-06 21:53:20 +0000 UTCWill Machinabridged continue? I can accept that DBZA ended on a good note, and you guys blew my expectations out of the water. And for the past 11 year, you guys have jumped through all manner of hoops, even an absolute DEMON of a legal suit to get to the conclusion of the Cell Saga. You guys deserve to go In the direction that benefits you for sticking it out for that long and standing tall the loyalty to your fan base (and that span is vast AF). I'll absolutely continue to stick around and see what direction your group goes in, because at this point, I'm fraggin' invested.

2020-02-06 21:45:51 +0000 UTCDragonBall and DBZA helped when I was going through a very tough time. My mother was in a coma for the past 11 years and recently passed in October. When she went down I spent over a month just big ge watching DragonBall, and the DBZA. My best friend showed it to me. It gave me so many desperately needed laughs, and does to this day. As an artist I completely understand where you guys are coming from I your decision. It's not an easy one to make. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the time and work you put into this. It kept going. Now, I have children of my own to share this with! I wish you all the happiness thos world can give as you move forward. ❤

2020-02-06 21:38:39 +0000 UTCI was already getting concerned about you guys continuing the DBZA anyway I feared that if you continued to show the original DragonBallZ footage (chopped up and re-dubbed) that YouTube would permanently erase your channel and content. They have multiple times deleted your DBZA videos and channel. However, I love you short animated skits. The one where Nappa Babysits Trunks was funny. And the recent one you guys made over the Z Warriors panicking over Chi-Chi giving birth was hilarious as well. Using animated skits like that is awesome, and Toei can’t hurt your channel with fan-made animation. I would LOVE more of those skits. Your material is great and you shouldn’t give up on that. I liked your original idea of possibly making a short skit of the Buu Saga. Since many fans were expecting the Buu Saga after episode 60. For most (including you TeamFourStar) it would be like having your cake and eating it. Either which avenue you guys take, thank you so much for the 11 years of comedy

2020-02-06 21:24:25 +0000 UTCI came to love and support TFS, especially after reading the entire thing. But I'm happy to see so many other patrons actually showing their love for TFS regardless of DBZA <3. Never see a lot of comments even for the patreon only Q&A. I only wish for the best of all involved then, now, and in the future of TFS.
Matt
2020-02-06 21:12:16 +0000 UTC(I just made an account to ask this) Do you guys at the very least plan to do more of the movies? I only ask because I have only followed due to the Dragonball content, and I've rewatched your abridged several times. If this is the end of Dragonball content in general (which to my understand your struggling to put out anymore Dragonball content) then this is a major disappointment.
YoshiRailz
2020-02-06 21:10:07 +0000 UTCWell, seems like the end of an area... DBZA is over, Yugi-ho abriedged announced that season 5 will be the end... But I believe that it is normal for you guys to close the book while you are happy with the result (even if I was really looking foward Gohan highscholl abridged). I will continue to stick around, and I hope that TFS will continue to grow and improved !

2020-02-06 21:07:05 +0000 UTCThank you for sharing. You guys rock. If I may ask, has FF7MA been a similar creative strain to DBZA? If not, what makes that series different?

2020-02-06 21:03:34 +0000 UTCHonestly, when episode 60 premiered, I remember saying "this has to be the end. And if it is, what a fucking amazing ending." I'm glad y'all are ending it on your own terms. I'm sad to see it go since I've been watching since 2008, but, all good things come to an end. I am curious if y'all might do some one offs every now and then? Maybe a special abridged DBZA movie once in a blue moon? Or is that out of the cards? Either way I'm sticking around. (Also thar JoJo short was fucking hilarious. I hope more of those are on the way.)

2020-02-06 20:56:49 +0000 UTCMuch love guys and I am excited to see you branch further out! It's been a blast since I found you 11 years ago! Thank you for explaining and I will in my little way continue to support you with views and patreon :)

2020-02-06 20:55:34 +0000 UTCHonestly this sucks. I'm disappointing. Not gonna sugarcoat it, but this ruined my day. I may be in the minority in only sticking around for DBZA. It was a fun ride while it lasted though. Good luck in the rest of the things you do.

2020-02-06 20:54:30 +0000 UTCGood on you guys for doing what you feel is right. Time to keep moving forward with all your other stuff!
Erik Zimmerman
2020-02-06 20:53:22 +0000 UTCI'm fine with this. Frankly I found the RPGs more creatively interesting due to the freedom enabled (not to knock DBZA in anyway, its an amazing piece of work but yoy can only go so many places with the footage) and funded because I watch a majority of your content thus feel you deserve my money. I also suspected you guys would have issues with the ShortZ replacing the Buu animation simply because you wouldn't be able to animate the combat to the same quality as the Anime. However frankly the shortz are in a good place, due to DBZs frenetuc nature moving from one big combat arc to the next theres very little slice-of-life or downtime scenes (something Super does well on the rare occasions it does them) there I feel your dragonball niche could continue. I wish you guys the best though and hope you go from strength to strength
James Green
2020-02-06 20:48:43 +0000 UTC*I have a question at the end* I respect all of Team Four Stars' decision. I'm trying to be a creator myself and I've found that trying to simply churn out the content I want done feels empty and bare bones. I want to continue making said content but in order to make it more interesting for myself to continue, I have to continuously evolve and learn and incorporate new things. I can't imagine how much pressure you guys must have been under when it came to the copyright strikes, trying to remain true to the original dbz content whilst essentially re-working it and making it enjoyable for not only fans, but also yourselves. The thing I liked most about the Buu Saga (High School Arc to the end of the original series) was essentially the High School Arc and Short Tournament Arc just as the Buu Saga truly started, all because of Gohan's life as a student and his budding romance with Videl. I wished I could have seen what you guys would have done with that part of Season 4, and I hope that you might reach a stage with ShortZ where something similar can be made. I'll continue my support here, on the main channel, and on the gaming channel--and when I can on Twitch. I've really been enjoying the podcasts you all have been putting out recently, I've rewatched the Shenmue, Sekiro and Spiderman archives multiple times, and I try to support you guys on Twitch as well. My Question: Not related to DBZA and this may have been addressed before at some stage that I missed, but what are the plans for "Unabridged?" You guys have released the first episode but nothing else beyond some sneak peeks to the episodes that seem to be done or partly finished. Are you doing a batch-release type thing similar to Netflix; or a week-by-week type thing that you had initially thought to do for DBZA:S4, where a chuck of episodes would be completed and released week-by-week for a period of time; or are the episodes somewhere and I just haven't found them.
TheKaleidoscape
2020-02-06 20:47:03 +0000 UTCIt sounds like this is the right decision, I just wish you hadn't announced S4 at the end of 60. I think most people would be satisfied with it ending there if you didn't give hope for a new season. But what's done is done and it sounds like it's for the best that you move on to other projects. Best of luck!
Gavin
2020-02-06 20:44:28 +0000 UTCThis is a little heartbreaking. DBZA brought me back to the DB universe, and Anime as a whole, when I had written it off as a middle-school fad. I understand your decision and eagerly await what TFS will produce down the road. Thank you guys and good luck!

2020-02-06 20:43:14 +0000 UTCDam Scot. Man i feel so much emotion from this. So DBZA is dead... sucks man... like a lot... you mentioned scrubs earlier... yeah this post it kind of hit mi like that last episode of season 8. Not gonna lie... i am gonna miss the hell out of dbza. Its not gonna be the same. But and there is a big but. I still love you content... the TFS brand.. games .. podcast... shows... all of it. I have some criticism for sure... actualy i am going to be honest... a one very big criticism... but every time i get a new piece of content from you guys i just love it. You know what i love you guys... all your content and all you hard work. I am in for the long haul and you will continue to have my support... to this day i cherish a few meningful words Lani told me in an email. You guys are good people that make amazing content... dont change that ... amd everything else will come latter. Good luck i know i will be watching

2020-02-06 20:30:26 +0000 UTCWell, I can't say I'm not disappointed, but as long as Final Fantasy 7 Machinabridged and the ShortZ series is still going (even if it's not going to ultimately lead into Buu Saga), I'm sticking around.

2020-02-06 20:30:25 +0000 UTCThe art form is still going. If you're looking for more really great abridged series then consider looking up Sword Art Online Abridged by Something Witty Entertainment and Fate/Stay Night UBW Abridged by Project Mouthwash.

2020-02-06 20:29:07 +0000 UTCI'm very sad to see it go, but I'll be sticking around all the same. I've enjoyed the content you guys have put out, abridged or otherwise, and I originally became a patron to throw you guys a few sheckles and shinies out of my appreciation for what you've done, and continue to do. Sure, I'm sad we'll never reach Buu, but I'd rather you guys be happy, and be able to put your passion into what you're making, rather than feel trapped and forced. Stay awesome Scott, Nick, Curt, Chris, Brian, and every other member of TeamFourStar. Here's hoping the future is looking bright. Looking forward to whatever it may bring.

2020-02-06 20:27:17 +0000 UTCNo worries, saw this coming. DBZ could have ended with Cell Saga anyway! I like Mr Satan, Video, Buu, etc. but the previous sagas were so much more important. Thank you for your incredible work! DVD release when

2020-02-06 20:26:20 +0000 UTCI came to your channel for DBZA, and I stayed for everything else. That will not change. Though I am sad that Season 4 will not happen, I understand why: the Buu Saga was not a good point due to wasted characters, awful plot points, and arcs that went on way longer than they needed to. Plus I have enjoyed all the content you've given us, so I know you will still give out quality entertainment past DBZA. Thank you for the update, and remember I will always have the support

2020-02-06 20:24:55 +0000 UTCMaybe you should change the title of Unabridged before it comes out? Having "abridged" in the title might kinda seems like you're tying it to your retired abridged series, and it might remind your salty fans about DBZA.

2020-02-06 20:24:09 +0000 UTCI understand why you can't go through with this, and I'm not disappointing in you guys. Am I sad that this wonderful show is going to be gone, yes, yes I am. But in the end, as influential as this show has been for many of us, we don't go to it for DBZA, we're there for you. DBZA will forever be my dub of dragon ball, and by far the best thing on youtube. But in the end, I also love Hellsing, TFS at the Table, Machinabridged, Dumpling, Pudding, and so many others. I still listen to you reviews of MHA as I play Civ 6. I'm not here for this, I'm here for you guys. Don't think less of yourselves because you have to end your magnum opus. In the end, DBZA was amazing, and we as a community cannot thank you enough. We love you all. <3

2020-02-06 20:23:08 +0000 UTCIve been a massive fan of the DBZA since i first got to know about it (around the release of History of Trunks) and have rewatched all the episodes around 10 times i would guess. I didn´t grow up with dbz, I blazed through it in 2014 and it was my first real taste of anime, right after i started watching you guys and i was just so hooked it´s insane! I will always remember the joy your series have brought me and whatever comes from you in the future I will at least give a try since I know how amazing it can potentionaly be. I am a patreon on the lowest possible level but I will stay a patreon cuz of frankly how much i love you guys :)

2020-02-06 20:22:03 +0000 UTCWhile i plan on keeping support as audience, since i'm a fan of TFS instead of DBZA, it's been noticeable that the company is lacking some sides of decission and long-term planning, Bojack, Season 4 and Season 4 AGAIN are examples of "we want to do things, let's see if it works". While there's nothing wrong on wanting to do things as they go along, if the plan is not fully realized there, it shouldn't have been kept in the dark like you said, and i don't mean after 60, it should have stayed done instead of "I DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU GOT THE IDEA 60 WAS THE END OF DBZA...". That's my biggest "issue" with this scenario, that it's been since 60 was in production that you talked about 60 being the final episode, then dismissed those that went to that conclussion while talking about it online, only for you guys to actually stopping at 60 like it was discussed. I'll support TFS in the ways that i can, i admit of not putting a single penny cause it's not on my ability, so take my comment as you wish, but personally, this shouldn't have been going back and forward since it was a personal issue from the very beginning.

2020-02-06 20:18:56 +0000 UTCBetween this and LittleKuriboh failing to make the final season of YGOTAS by the end of 2019 due to his constantly fluctuating health, I feel so heartbroken. Those two shows were a part of my life since I was a teen. And what's worse is the effect it will have on the rest of the abridging community in general. It feels like we're losing an artform.

2020-02-06 20:16:03 +0000 UTCI totally understand and support your decision. I've been a huge fan of DBZA for a long time, and last month went through a binge of rewatching the movies and specials and some of the episodes (as nothing says "Christmas" like DBZA movies) but I understand some projects just can't go on forever, especially when it's something that's always been in a tenuous place like DBZA. It's incredible that you've made as much content through DBZA as you have but it was always good because it was a passion project, and I wouldn't want you to keep making it with no passion. Good luck on your future projects, I'm sure new projects that you feel excited about and to make will be a thousand times better than anything you're forcing yourself to do out of obligation.

2020-02-06 20:10:36 +0000 UTCThank you for the update! I'll be sad to see DBZA go, but better that it ends on a high note than you struggling just to produce more without any heart in it. Looking forward to what you produce in the future :)

2020-02-06 20:04:15 +0000 UTCThanks for the update! I'll admit I am sad that DBZA won't continue, but I completely understand why and I support the team's decision. As much as I'd love to see this go on, the fact that it's become more of a burden than anything for you all is heart breaking. I don't want you guys to suffer and end up hating what you initially loved even if it's with the good intention of pleasing fans. The lack of passion will show and we'd get a subpar product that no one wants. Just look at Shrek the Third and Spider-Man 3. I don't want that happening here. I'd rather we leave things on the high note we have. If this is just going to hurt you all, then I'd rather you move forward to more fun and awesome productions. I got to watch you all form TFS before you were even TFS, and while I may have come for the Abridged I stayed because of you, the members, the people who work to give us more content beyond the Abridged. The gaming channel and the videos like Parodynormal Activity you've done outside of DBZA have been fun and phenomenal and I love the Talkcast Podshow and getting to know more about you all. It's truly been a rewarding experience all around and I thank you all for that and look forward to whatever new and exciting surprises you have coming down the line. You're all more than an abridged series to us. You're a uniquely creative and amazing team of passionate people that we can't wait to see more from. You've given us so much, not only in entertainment, you've even inspired us to become more as well! I didn't think I had much talent until I started mimicking your voices, and now I've got a gaming channel on Twitch that people seem to like. Maybe I'm doing the work, but you provided the much needed spark that lit the flame and I'm sure you've done that for millions of others in their own regards. And for all that, we thank you deeply and profoundly, and we respect you and your decisions. So whatever you've got coming for us, we'll be there because it's where you are. DBZA may have gone out in a blaze of glory, but TeamFourStar marches on! As a proud dragon of your community, I'm prepared to be rocked by whatever you've got coming at me next!

2020-02-06 19:59:58 +0000 UTCI think I feel the way I do about all change. Sad, yes; mourning the loss of something that was clearly so enjoyable. But, growth comes from those shifts. And I'm sure you all have more complex and scary feelings regarding this change then the people, like me, who are just disappointed that their fav show is no longer getting created (for free). You all have created such a powerful community of artists, entertainers, creators and loyal fans! So, this announcement doesn't really change anything for me, I'll still be watching :)

2020-02-06 19:56:05 +0000 UTCCan't honestly say I'm not disappointed, but your decision is totally understandable. DBZA is an incredible series with a wonderful end, and while it was what made me a fan of TFS in the first place you guys have come a long way since then. And of course it should go without saying that you guys should do what's best for you. I'm not going anywhere. I support you because I enjoy all your work, not just DBZA.

2020-02-06 19:55:43 +0000 UTCKaiser thank you for the information i am looking forward tl the shorts and other projects which is why i am a patreon you guys gave us great content to enjoy and talk about. And here a lil heads up watch the editing of the last few DBZA episodes Kaiser you should too the amount of joy you showed there is incredible. My question is more like this: if you gonna continue the shorts and other projects will there be a scedule? And time wise how long do you intend those shorts to be?
Mega
2020-02-06 19:43:46 +0000 UTCThe Cell Saga is such a great end point - I can understand why at that point, you didn't want to say "yep, this is it", but it makes perfect sense that it is. Good luck with all your future projects!
trampledamage
2020-02-06 19:40:49 +0000 UTCCan't say it's not disappointing, but I was somewhat expecting this. I love you guys and will continue to support you in whatever you do.

2020-02-06 19:39:29 +0000 UTCWhile I certainly can't say that I was among your earliest supporters (I only discovered you back when you back when Vegeta's rage broke on Namek), I have certainly enjoyed the ride since then. While I'm a bit sad to say goodbye to a cherished series, I couldn't help but realize while reading this that I had actually stopped waiting for new episodes of DBZA to appear after the last Kai episode. It just felt like a proper end to the series and I support your decision entirely. Besides, the Buu saga would take another, what, 10 years or so to complete, and that's certainly a huge time commitment for people who might decide that it's time to move their lives in a different direction. I appreciate all that you've done with this series and for the abridging community as a whole, and I will continue to support what you do as artists. Thank you!
Andrew Tucker
2020-02-06 19:35:33 +0000 UTCI became a patron to support you guys and that’s not stopping. When I found dbza when I was 11 I was hardcore obsessed and will say I still am(literally rewatched the namek episodes a few days ago), but it was your guys comedy and writing is what made it special. So yeah I am really sad to see it go. But you guys got other stuff and I got that to look forward to

2020-02-06 19:30:31 +0000 UTCHmmmmm oh well time to move on to the next thing. Will miss dbza but what can ya do . Thanks for the memories and hope u guys the best in your future endevors

2020-02-06 19:22:38 +0000 UTCYou guys gave us years of amazing entertainment. I ain't even sad it's ending. I'm just grateful I even got to know it. Go enjoy your future projects friends. Thank you for eleven amazing years, I can't wait to see what you do next.

2020-02-06 19:16:48 +0000 UTCI'm not gonna lie, I pretty much saw this coming from the getgo. It's unfortunate, but the part about the quality drop is one of the reasons why I was never the biggest fan of the Buu Saga in the first place. Scott, it would be absolutely torturous for you to put yourself through that editing process. The Cell Saga finale was one of the most solid series finales out of anything, I agree that it's time to put it to rest. I will still be patreoning because I love y'all, and I look forward to what new stuff you continue to bring~
Atticus Kronenberg
2020-02-06 19:13:31 +0000 UTCWow... First off, let me just say a sincere "Thank You" for your tactful rhetoric, your clarity, and your overwhelming empathy. It means a lot to a fan. Scott, this may seem odd but I have been waiting for this message from you for a long time, and I'm just so grateful it's come. Watching you grow through this medium in so many of the ways you talked about has been an incredible thing, and frankly, it's the main reason so many of us LOVE your work the way we do. DBZA was this incredible gift you gave to everyone, sure, but I think its greatest accomplishment was being the proverbial egg from which your artistic agency was born. And lofty language aside, I hope you and this incredible team you've built move forward fearlessly. I'm sorry if anyone feels cheated or upset, but you outgrew this a long time ago. So please, go make your Steven Universe or Gurren Lagann or whatever mark it is that will be yours to make. I'm so fucking excited to see all the really wonderful things you'll do. Here supporting you from the ground up, buddy! I'm raising my monthly patron contribution NOT because you deserve it, but because I really believe in you as an artist. Go get 'em.
Robert McNeely
2020-02-06 19:08:07 +0000 UTCI love you guys so I'll keep doing what I'm doing and I hope you guys keep doing what you feel is right!

2020-02-06 19:06:59 +0000 UTCwill you stop with abridging in general or just do series where you have permission like ff7?
Winters King
2020-02-06 19:02:53 +0000 UTCAll the best, guys. Take care of yourselves. :) Still looking forward to the conclusion of FF7 and seeing what you have in store for the future.

2020-02-06 19:01:28 +0000 UTCThough DBZA was the whole reason I started following tfs it is not the reason I continue to support you. I have come to enjoy all of your works and absolutely love the entire crew. I will be continuing my support so keep up the great work guys

2020-02-06 18:57:57 +0000 UTCI suspected that doing the Buu saga in the Shortz style would be too strenuous. I'm glad you guys have come to the decision to let it go now, than have to suffer any longer. The public comments are gonna be filled with selfishness and self-entitlement ... but I and others will continue to support you past DBZA.
Magnasium
2020-02-06 18:44:09 +0000 UTCWhile the news about DBZA is truly a bummer, I’m glad you are making the decision you feel is best for your company. It has been a great ride watching TFS grow from what it was 12 years ago to how it exists today. I look forward to seeing what content you can come up with in the future. Thank you for everything!
Terry Olson
2020-02-06 18:43:39 +0000 UTCI joined as a patron after DBZA ended, but I'm sticking around for a while just as back pay for a show I didn't expect to watch 4-5 times straight through when I started, yet here we are. This is a smart move for TFS as a company, though selfishly if we get more one-off specials, or even just a Buu Kai epilogue I'd be thrilled. Best of luck on all new projects, y'all are stars
Connor Lenahan
2020-02-06 18:41:45 +0000 UTCThrough all your hardships i feel like you've all outgrown DBZA. I remember when you guys just started braching out to doing newer things and i was happy about it, still am too. You guys have provided some of the best forms of entertainment to me for the past decade. I don't speak for everyone but trust me when i say that you guys are what made TFS the beast it is today and while DBZA helped a lot... It is understandable to wanna to leave it on the high note that you did. I am sad that it is gone, but i am also a lot more happy that it happend.
Lavos
2020-02-06 18:39:59 +0000 UTCAlthough I had a bit of hope in my heart for the Saga for continuing in the style of Shortz, I knoew deep down that it was most likely never going to happen. And I don't fault anyone at TFS for it. You brought us 11 Years of content. It's amazing that you were able to expand your initial fun fan project into a large company where you get to do so much more. When you initially tweeted that traditional DBZA was ending with Episode 60, the Fallout I saw with fans on Facebook about it was kinda sad. Here were people who have been enjoying your content for years, and they were all talking about quitting and unsubbing. Here were people who sought out DBZA and only DBZA for years. Some didn't know about any of your other content, some did, and didn't enjoy it. Others didn't understand that TFS is a company, subjectable to lawsuits and copyright claims that could completely dismantle everything built over 11 years by continuing to produce content in such a legally grey area. Although I am saddened with the news, I'm not really shocked. It's something I had felt since the Epilogue of Episode 60 aired. The Cell saga always felt like the true end to DBZ anyway, and the care and work put into episode 60 was so immense, it felt like a real end. A better end. And I'm perfectly ok with that. I've grown to love all your other projects, UnAbridged, TFS At The Table, Shortz, Fist Master, everything. Otherwise, I wouldn't be pledging Platinum status for content I really didn't enjoy that much. 😅 Reguardless, the entirety of TFS brings us all Joy and laughter and I hope that the end of DBZA won't bring too much trouble or effect TFS as a company too badly moving forward.
Jaquin
2020-02-06 18:36:17 +0000 UTCThanks so much for all the wonderful work you guys have done. Thank you for taking the time to communicate, too.

2020-02-06 18:35:48 +0000 UTCDBZA was definitely what originally brought my attention to TFS, and I have enjoyed the series tremendously over its course. The Cell saga finale brings DBZA to an absolutely satisfactory close and, while somewhat saddened in the knowledge that the continuation of DBZ will most likely not be abridged, TFS has introduced me to do much more great content that I will happily continue donating and following. One question out of curiosity though: if and when TFS would decide definitely not to continue DBZA, and someone else would offer to take up the work on continuing, would you support that?
Freek Jansen
2020-02-06 18:35:20 +0000 UTCAs sad as I am to hear this news, I'm still happy for everyone involved. Mental health comes first, and you should always be following what you have a passion in. Good luck further!
Serious_overtime
2020-02-06 18:34:43 +0000 UTCHow dare you be human! In all honesty if you guys started doing a podcast/”question show" in character that would be just as entertaining. Short tastes of the abridged world but with your voices and writing. Maybe some one-off one-sheet RPG games in that style.
Buoyant Citrus
2020-02-06 18:34:03 +0000 UTCBummer, I was really looking forward to your take on Saiyaman, Videl, and Vegeta's explosion

2020-02-06 18:31:45 +0000 UTCIm sorry to here that i hope the best in your endeavors your animation os still one of the best as far as im concerned i saw that one of your reasons for can DBZA was copyright concerns sow douse that mean that your getting rid of the abridged episodes on your Channel?
Marter
2020-02-06 18:30:49 +0000 UTCI would be lying if I said I wasn't really looking forward to see what you guys would've done with Buu but I understand your reasons. I would rather you put your focus and passions into something that you love to do. You will always have my support. DBZA helped me when I was down and almost out plus the episodes aren't going anywhere so I'll always have content. I love TFS and all you do. Stay blessed and keep up the legendary hustle.
Will Bruce
2020-02-06 18:27:44 +0000 UTCI totally understand you guys are burned out on dbza and more than anything i want you guys to continue producing content related to dbz. Your abridged episodes have literally been my fallback through so many tough times in life and i couldnt appreciate you guys enough just for that. DBZA is why i started supporting through patreon in the first place. But ultimately i believe your decision is a smart one. And am glad u guys are going to continue to produce content. Im just glad we got the 60 episodes we have. Thankyou and ill continue to support but im sure that not only myself but many of your fans would be overjoyed for more DBZ content. Overall i hope u guys are well and doing whats best for u. Thanks for everything youve given us so fae

2020-02-06 18:26:14 +0000 UTCI'm of two minds on this: One, as a consumer of the company, it sucks that we aren't getting DBZA S4 which was promised in a variety of ways. People are going to be angry about that, and there's no way around it. Two, as a fan of the amazing creative work y'all do, I'm happy that you don't need to be shackled to something that you hate. When you all are passionate about your work, it can be felt with just how amazing that work ends up being. I don't want more DBZA if it ends up being soulless filler. Burn out is real, and I'm hopeful about the great content you can make once you're free from it. Keep on keeping it real, human and thoughtful! I'll be there for whatever you guys decide to do. <3

2020-02-06 18:23:44 +0000 UTCWell, Im glad were finally getting the record set straight, but now I wonder, and if you see this Kaiser maybe you can answer, whats the future for TFS as a company? Obviously DBZA was a big part of the companys foundation, so is there any plans to replace that?
Dale Belluomini
2020-02-06 18:20:33 +0000 UTCYour DBZA project is what initially hooked me, no doubt. However I've come to love the other work you all have created. I'm glad you guys are being true to yourselves and not driving the show and your sanity into the ground. I will continue to watch and share the masterpiece that was and still is my favorite show of any medium. The amount of laughter and joy your have brought to me and many others is priceless. I will wholeheartedly support your other work and future ventures. Do what you guys love and we the fans will follow. Keep being awesome!
Baron Von Whiskers
2020-02-06 18:19:12 +0000 UTCIt's unfortunate, but understandable for all the reasons you mentioned. You've grown from simple cutting and pasting existing footage to creating entirely new visuals, music, professional voiceovers and more. You've grown so much as a team that it's inevitable that you want to start doing something else. The Cell Saga was, indeed, the pinnacle of the series and the last episode a definite well done ending. The Buu Saga would have been a bonus on top of that, but the series already got a good ending as far as I'm concerned. I did donate to the patreon to support DBZA, as quite frankly, your other content simply doesn't interest me as much (I'm not much into anime as a whole, DBZ being a big exception). So while it will mean the end of my financial support, I am definitely not angry with you over this decision. I'm glad to have been able to help you guys support the company and pursue other projects. I wish you all the best for your future endeavors as a team, and thank you very much for the years of effort you guys put in to bring us DBZA. It's probably one of the most well known fan projects on the internet, and became a meme in its own right. You've accomplished a lot, and you have my thanks!

2020-02-06 18:18:13 +0000 UTCTo all of you on the TFS team, I became a patron because of all of the content you output weekly. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to show you how much enjoyment I've received over the years following all of your projects. DBZA may have been your foundation, but like all companies and people who grow and mature, multiple additions have caused you to grow beyond the foundation. While it will always be there, there are also newer and exciting projects coming down the line that reflect what you are now. I'm looking forward to consuming content for TFS for as long as I can, or you all move on to the next adventure.

2020-02-06 18:17:42 +0000 UTCCompletely understand. Love all the work you guys do and will continue giving you my support!

2020-02-06 18:16:45 +0000 UTCI've always respected how honest you guys are with us, and I hope you all understand that you have a real community here inspired by, because of, and outside of DBZA. We'll stick around

2020-02-06 18:15:13 +0000 UTCI came for DBZA, but I stayed for you guys and all you do. Take it sleazy, y'all =)

2020-02-06 18:14:00 +0000 UTCWhile I am sad at this news, I also just want to say congratulations to you guys. After so many years following you guys and giving as much support as I was able to I have to say I’m content with it ending at the Cell saga. Of course I’d love more but it just felt like that was a proper ending. I love all of you guys and wish you all the best in whatever new adventures await you.
Thor Chan
2020-02-06 18:13:08 +0000 UTCI'm sorry to hear there's no Buu but I can understand your reasons and we did end things on a good note. If you think it's best to focus on other projects, then, by all means, continue. I wonder where you'll go after FF7 Abridged. FF8? FF9?
Fel Martins
2020-02-06 18:12:57 +0000 UTCI for one fully support this decision. If you guys aren't feeling passionate about continuing the project but tried to go through with it anyway, it would absolutely show in the final product, and you'd have not only yourselves resenting the outcome, but you'd also be contending with a lot of "this season is shit, Cell saga was way better!" And like you said, this Patreon does not and was never meant to fund DBZA. I'm a patron because I wanna see the crazy stuff you guys can come up with when you smash your creative minds against one another. I've been following most of you guys since before Team Four Star even existed, and I will continue to do so. I cannot wait to see what you come to produce in the coming years!
Matt Yoh
2020-02-06 18:12:03 +0000 UTCThanks for caring enough that you would rather DBZA be a highlight than become a zombie merely for views and cash, like so many other wonderful creations have done. I'm sad it's done and that I didn't get to say goodbye when 60 aired (honestly, it feels kinda like I prepared for the end of a relative, who recovered, only to get hit by a truck a few months later). But that happens, and I'd rather it be quick than a slow, painful death for us all. I've been with you guys since episode 9. I'm excited to see what comes next.
AJ Harmon-Glaus
2020-02-06 18:11:23 +0000 UTCI thought Episode 60 was the perfect end to gohan’s story and I always thought the buu saga ruined that in the original so I’m happy to see you guys make the creative decision that toriyama never could. I’m also curious to know what the plans are for other projects, I think you 3 are extremely talented writers and I am happy that my little bit funds more content from you
Matthew Sevush
2020-02-06 18:10:59 +0000 UTCEven if we never do get the buu sage that’s ok. You guys have brought me 11 great years. Whenever I was feeling down I could just watch your videos and it always brought a smile on my face. I wish all of you luck for the coming years.
Julian Castillo
2020-02-06 18:10:29 +0000 UTCSaddened as I am to hear this, I understand. My fear is that without DBZA your audience pull might lessen. With the conclusion of TFS Natural Wonders and DBZA I worry what your next pull factor will be. I am glad for all the laughs you've brought over the years and know that this decision isn't easy, but what's best. I'm gonna keep supporting you guys as I believe in the content you make. Keep up the hard work!
Patrick Miller
2020-02-06 18:09:14 +0000 UTCHonestly, it's fine that the series ends where it does. Now we have a more conclusive ending than Z proper. Abridged Gohan is Goku now.
Sawyer Gardner
2020-02-06 18:07:51 +0000 UTCSome people will be mad about this, but screw them. You guys did a fantastic job with DBZA and if I'm being honest I have always felt the series should have ended with Cell anyway. Thanks for the years of amazing content and I'm looking forward to watching whatever you come up with next.
Zachary Oleszko
2020-02-06 18:07:31 +0000 UTCI don't deny that I became a patron for DBZA, but I have loved EVERYTHING you guys had made and I will continue to support you for as long as I am financially able to! You need to do what makes you happy and fulfilled. Selfishly that means I get better content, but it also means that you are all happier and that makes me happy too. <3
