🔹 Who the Deep Sea Wyvern is?
Underwater Wyverns (or "Deep Sea Wyverns") are a sentient species of scaled beings created by me as part of the author's project "Sea Reminiscence".

The concept encompasses a vast fantasy world, comprising several large continents and expansive seas, adjacent to one another. Both land and water are inhabited by snake-like sentient beings of various kinds: dragons, wyverns, drakes, and even basilisks with griffins. I share details about their way of life, species-specific traits, and relationships on my page.
Simultaneously, alongside the development of the world, I narrate the story of my main original character, Altumar, through illustrations. At present, as a sea wyvern, he eagerly explores the unfamiliar world around him and takes great pleasure in recounting his journey from the ocean depths to the surface.
All informations about a character you can find here

On his way at Home of Water Altumar is meeting a lot of wyverns like himself (and non-like himself). That’s why I’m offering for each one who wants get own wyvern as a part of the wide world «Sea Reminiscence»
🔹🔹🔹🔹 General Description
Deepsea Wyverns are intelligent and wise dragon-like beings that dwell in the depths of the sea in its most remote corners. They are quite isolated from the rest of the world and not get used to being seen by others.

Externally, they can be described as medium-sized creatures capable of swift movement and adept maneuvering in water. They really look like classic dragons, but with missing forelimbs - the main function of the paws is wings instead. Another distinctive feature is their diverse color palette and fine iridescent scales.

In terms of temperament, sea wyverns are reserved and calm, non-aggressive yet highly freedom-loving. They consider themselves the rightful masters of the seas, though they are well aware that there will always be "bigger fish" in their native abode. Despite the vast expanses of the sea, wyverns are accustomed to congregating in small territorial communities to live on mutually beneficial terms.

Some sea wyverns, like other sentient beings of the Sea Reminiscence, can breathe air freely and stay on land. For this reason, in the past, deepsea wyverns often ventured beyond the water, exploring new territories due to their love for freedom. However, this did not sit well with some terrestrial inhabitants, leading to conflicts emerging quite swiftly among land-dwelling species. Some creatures, led by dragons - the primary adversaries of the sea-dwellers, sought to resist the wyverns' territorial expansion.
The main deterrent, however, became a natural phenomenon that the wyverns named the "The Great RIP Current" - a multi-year event during which no sea creature can leave the House of Water and set foot on land due to an immensely powerful current extending along the shores of all continents for hundreds of kilometers. In one instant, this recurring phenomenon "cut off" the wyverns from the entire world, which ultimately proved to be a salvation for the terrestrial species.

Not only territorially, but also historically, it has evolved in such a way that dragons and wyverns have been in conflict with each other for many centuries. All battles and clashes occur due to mutual hatred and total misunderstanding. These disputes trace their roots back to the origin stories of each species, intricately interwoven with their beliefs and way of life.
At the time of this narrative, the last Great Draw has concluded, having kept the sea wyverns at the bottom for over 20 years. Only Altumar's native community and some neighboring collectives are currently aware of this event. What will happen next - nobody knows yet.
🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹Social Organization
All deepsea wyverns are self-sufficient, powerful creatures capable of hunting and surviving in the wild. However, in the perilous underwater environment, most of them gather in communities of around 25-30 individuals for the sake of comfortable coexistence.

These communities are usually territorial, encompassing a specific area on the map, and include various locations where wyverns engage in activities such as gathering, hunting, observing, educating, and nesting.
Authority within the community is not owned by anyone - each wyvern is a voluntary part of the system. Upon joining, a wyvern takes on a set of responsibilities and, in return, has its needs met, including food, protection, and partnership. Public matters are collectively resolved through discussion.

Naturally, in such a system, a leader may inadvertently emerge - a confident and articulate speaker who assists those around them and makes a significant contribution to the community. Usually, this is a highly respected wyvern, often a wise elder or a parent of a large kin. However, this does not grant the wyvern privileges in decision-making on public matters - everyone strives to adhere to equal rights and conditions.
🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹 Culure
At the time of Altumar's tale, the culture of the sea wyverns is going through very challenging times. Due to the Great Draw and the preceding wars, a vast portion of the underwater world has changed. Everything that once symbolized the wyvern civilization was destroyed by the dragons. The heroes who used to speak of the values of sea wyverns were killed.
Only a small fragment of the "Social Memory" of the wyverns remains. Currently, what helps in fragmentary reconstruction of the sea culture is what's left of Altumar's library and the stories of old sages dwelling on the outskirts of the sea...
To be continued…
Author's Comment:
Thank you so much for your attention! The lore and world of the wyverns are finally starting to come to life, which brings me great joy!
There was so much information that I decided to split it into several separate articles with the coolest formatting. Ahead of us are topics like culture, anatomy, nesting, world map, dragons, and so much more!
I would be incredibly grateful if you could like and share this post, and provide feedback, because I put in a lot of effort. Thank you once again! ❤
