Everything is turning great at the end of this episode, if we're considering that losing an eye is not that bad. Thorkell is not mad about it, he's even glad to have new allies, including Thorfin who cost him two fingers and an eye. For Askeladd to help Thorfinn during this duel, because they want to have their duel with each other… They are crazy !
Canute is coming and talking to everyone : "Hey, the king, my dad, is not one of my fans, so you're screwed. if you're bringing me, he's not gonna like it. If you're killing/releasing me, officially you're gonna be an enemy. I have a plan : to kill my dad, you're with me ?" It was not his words, but it's the idea. If Askeladd is choosing to follow him because he truly believes in that plan, clearly Thorkell is just interested in a new big fight. The memory with Thors proved that Thorkell never understood and always wondered what a true warrior is, so he's just searching for the answer.

Hello ! Yes, I agree with you about this episode setting stuff for the future, like for example Thorkell recognizing in Canute's eyes what he saw in Thors' eyes for me can justify the fact that in the future he's gonna follow him, obey to him to matter no what, because he needs his answer, to the big question "what a true warrior is", he wants to understand. Later, I saw that Canute changed, yes, but more like now he wants to be like that, he still has some doubts, needs some help.

This is a great episode that gives a new purpose to most of our characters and set our direction for the remainder of the season. * I always thought Canute's change was a bit too sudden but going through a traumatic event can definitely have an effect on one's personality. * I like that Thorkell sees that same determination and "enlightenment" in Canute that he saw in Thors. * Askeladd's big gamble really paid off. Did he finally find someone who would be worth serving? * Thorfinn on the other hand, seems to just be along for the ride until he gets his duel against Askeladd. Our boy still has a long way to go...
