This episode made me cry and laugh, with only a few minutes between these two emotions. I'm now really afraid while watching this anime : with Ragnar's death happening so suddenly and shocking me so much, I know that no one is safe. So with Askeladd being so hurt, I really thought that his guys would kill him here. I was glad to see Thorkell intervening and punishing them all for their betrayal.
The end of this episode is promising us a duel between Thorkell and Thorfinn, but I'm afraid of it. Askeladd didn't want to kill Thorfinn at the end of their duels because he knew he could use the kid, but these two are gonna want to prove themselves as warriors, to honor the other one by finishing the duel like they should.

2024-04-02 15:10:29 +0000 UTCMy favorite stretch of the 1st season starts with this episode. It's honestly banger after banger from here until the season finale. I think Askeladd did hate the Danes but his feelings towards his men were more complicated. I don't think he hates Bjorn for example. And maybe if the men didn't betray him, he probably would have kept trying to keep them alive. Also about his mother's words, she said "Serve the King" but she was referring to King Artorious coming back from Avalon. I think Askeladd never found a person who is worthy of his service. I think that's what he saw in Thors, someone he could serve and keep his promise to his mother.
