Controls in MJF — Where Arcade Meets Realism

When we started designing Modern Jet Fighters, one of the biggest challenges was clear: how do we make fighter jet controls intuitive and mobile-friendly, while still delivering the adrenaline and depth of real aerial combat?

The solution was to strike a balance between arcade accessibility and mechanical depth — resulting in a control system designed for mobile but with enough complexity to reward true skill.

✈️ Core Controls

Players fly their jets using a virtual joystick, but this isn’t your typical “left-right” setup. The controls are dynamically tied to the camera’s orientation. That means your flight direction is based on what you see, not just fixed axes — making it feel more natural, especially during high-speed maneuvers.

🎯 Navigation & Targeting Modes

The control system revolves around three core modes:

🧠 Contextual Smart Actions

Our dynamic action system only shows relevant buttons and commands based on the current situation. For example, as soon as a target enters missile lock range, a launch button appears. When you're close enough, the system seamlessly switches into aiming mode.

There's also an autopilot function — handy for beginners or players who want to temporarily hand over control without dropping out of the fight.

🔄 Fast Target Switching

With a single tap, you can switch to the most optimal target nearby. The system evaluates which enemy is the closest threat or best opportunity and adjusts instantly — keeping combat fluid and uninterrupted.

🎮 Why It Matters

This control system gives players that sweet spot between cinematic chaos and precise control. Every dodge, shot, and turn feels intentional. Every hit is earned. And most importantly — the controls become part of your instinct, not your obstacle.
