My Delivery System Chapter 13: Lunch Conversation
Added 2023-09-30 14:06:18 +0000 UTC"Hey, if it's okay to ask why did you transfer in this school? I mean, while I'm a a student of this very establishment, I'm not blind to it's faults, like there's a lot of better schools out there you know?" Although he has a hunch of what made her transfer to this school, it was better for him to hear it from Yaeko's mouth.
Yaeko hesitated, which was pretty understable, since the two of them were pretty much stranger, and this question was a bit sensitive to her.
"Alright, I'll tell you." In the end she decided to tell him the reason why she transfered in this school, this was her way of saying that she at least trusted him with something personal.
And then she started explaining what happened, according to her the house that she and her mother were previously living was destroyed by a devil, not to mention that includes their properties, because of that particular incident they barely had anything at all, the only good thing that happened to her and her mother was they're still alive.
It was a painful experience especially when that very house was something that Yaeko's late father last inheritance, that house was all of her father's hard work as public servant, all of that sweat and blood was now gone in instant because of some devil wanted to cause some chaos.
If it wasn't for the fact that they still have her father insurance, right now they would probably living in the streets as her mother doesn't really have a job when their house was destroyed, basically unemployed.
And because of that incident, she started to hate the devils, honestly her impression of them was neutral but now, she hated their very existence.
If it wasn't because of the devil, she would still be living at the house her father worked hard to buy, and she would still be at the private all-girl school with a bright future, but the devil ruined for her.
Hearing all of that, Hiru wasn't particularly sad about her situation, but rather he could sympathize, after all he experienced the same situation except it was a degree worse than her experience.
While she and her mother lost their property, he lost his parents, while they could never be compared to his first life parents, he still cared for them, as a family and knowing that they would die is even worse and not to mention trying to prevent it, but end up falling because it was meant to happen is terrible.
So that's why, he wouldn't feel sad about her story, but at the very least he could understand her frustration, unlike her who seemed to blame the devil for the destruction of her family's house.
To him, this was part of a cycle, as an outsider he had a very different view, he doesn't see this a disaster, rather a natural thing in this world.
Because the shit would soon hit the fan and it's only a matter of time, there's no 'if' in this, as things are about to get real, after all he was getting closer to the starting plot of the story.
"That's unfortunate." Is what he could only say, as it's technically true.
Hearing that, Yaeko could only force a smile and replied. "Indeed it's unfortunate.."
And the atmosphere became unbearably silent. It was incredibly awkward at the moment, but it broke when he decided to clarify things. "Look, I know you're probably thinking that I don't care about what happened to you, but it couldn't be farther from the truth."
Yaeko glared. "How exactly? You literally replied like you couldn't care less about my situation."
In her mind, she started regretting talking about her situation to him, she explained it to him because she trusted him, and also she wanted to get some of her inner turmoil to be lifted out, but as a result not only she felt worse, but also got to know that the person she was interested in was someone who couldn't care less about her at all.
His tone delivered zero emotions when she finished telling her story, she could honestly say that she was angry, and wanted to storm away from this place and never meet this man ever again.
She judged him wrong, it would be better if they would never see each other again, but before that she'd like to hear what this heartless person would say, as she was taught respect by her parents that she would at least hear the person out before having a conclusion, which she doubt this would turn around her already terrible view of him.
If an affection parameter existed, then there's no doubt that her current affection toward Hiru is almost at the bottom.
Hiru let out a sigh, as he realized that she may have misunderstood or perhaps had her own conclusions that indicates that he couldn't care less about her situation.
Although he really doesn't like using his past, as it's a very sore spot for him, especially for his sister and if she ever heard of this there's no doubt her trauma would act again and would start crying, and started blaming herself for their parents death.
"Because I could sympathize with your situation, you and your mother aren't the only people who have similar problems, you know that?"
"Of course, I'd be a fool to believe that we're the only ones who had it bad, don't say that you have a similar situation to me, because that would be a terrible excuse." Yaako, although she was calm on the surface but on the inside she was seething, if this man dared to use it as an excuse she would no doubt hate him.
"Heh, similar huh..? Well, if you put it like that, yes it is indeed similar." Hiru smiled, but his smile wasn't one with joy to it but simply hollow and bitterness combined.
"Hah! Look at you-" Yaeko couldn't finish her words as she noticed that he wasn't smiling, instead his expression looked very eerie at the moment.
"At least you still have your parents Nishimiya-san, our situation might be similar but it's very different, while you didn't lose your love ones, I did, my mother, father, our house and almost my life, and oh let's not forget a traumatized sister who blamed herself for the death of our parents!" Hiru let out a hollowed laugh that made Yaeko flinch, as she processed what she just heard.
However it wasn't all, as he continued his tale to Yaeko, who thought that her little sad story is a big deal, well it's not.
Even his life story wasn't even that bad, compared to the protagonist of this world, he couldn't help but imagine what sort of life Dina(Denji), was living for her to survive this day.
Compared to that, Yaeko's sad little story isn't even worth sympathizing with as Dina has the every right to complain about how shitty her life was, but she didn't and continued to move on.
"You know, my sister and I was orphaned at a single moment, and because of that we should have gone to the orphanage, however thanks for the small mercies that our parents had an insurance and we managed to avoid getting into an orphanage and who knows what would our life there would be, I'd never know and I'm glad I don't." Then he crossed both of his arms and looked directly into her eyes and said, "So tell me, should I express more words than 'unfortunate' knowing that you have a better life than I did?"
And with that as a finisher, there's no way she would be able to make a comeback, she could think all she want, but his reasoning triumphs hers.
As a logical and decent person, Yaeko could only bow in shame. "I-no, I'm sorry about that.."
"Hm, don't be sorry though I didn't mention my past so that you would feel sorry for me and pity me for it, I only said it for you to understand that you have it better than some people, at least you didn't lose anyone when a devil caused a destruction, honestly you're considered lucky because you remained whole and not broken." He remembered a lot of people that were traumatized by a devil, and he wasn't an exception although he feared devils in general as they have the capability of killing him.
However that was about it, he is more terrified of the people in this world mainly because of what they could do.
A wise man once said 'Don't fear something that you've known, rather fear those who you couldn't predict.'
It's because there's no telling what people could do to him and exactly what makes it terrifying, their unpredictable nature.
With a wry smile, Yaeko replied. "Yes, of course…I guess hearing your side of story made me realize how self-centered I am…"
Hiru snorted at that and answered. "Humans are naturally self-centered creatures, they can be selfish, cruel but it's normal after all that's what being human is all about, so you can forget our last conversation and start eating our lunch? Because I'm starving."
Yaeko smiled a bit and said. "I'd like that.."
And after that, they ate together while talking about normal stuff and became closer at the process thanks to previous conversation.
