Die Hard 2 could be an alternative to Die Hard as they both take place during Christmas time. Film Critic Roger Ebert had said that Die Hard 2 was actually his favorite of the series, and it was directed by Renny Harlin, who went on to direct The Long Kiss Goodnight.
