Morrigan Aensland

I actually had no idea who I was gonna draw when I started this, lol. I just had a nice pose and then I was like "ok, what do I do with it?", and usually in that situation Id default to my au ra, which I did at first... But it feels like I draw her so much while I have this huge list of characters Ive been wanting to draw forever, so I wanna start going through that instead.

So the reason I arrived at Morrigan was that, originally I had her naked, as is usually the case, but when I started thinking about what clothes would look good, I tried adding a one piece swimsuit/leotard and really liked how it worked with this pose. So then I started wondering which characters I like would look good in one, and she just popped into my head. Even the body type I did is perfect for her, so Im glad I thought of her right away.

I also dont know how noticeable it is but I tried doing the lines a bit differently, based on the vibes I get from the character and how people usually draw her. I think the legs are the most noticeable part also, I made them a bit more defined than usual so she looks more like a fighter, but still very soft and feminine of course. Oh, and the other thing is she usually wears the purple legwear with the bat prints, but I thought bare legs looked way better here so I ditched those.

Then moving on to the colors a strange thing I noticed is people draw her with all kinds of eye colors... Most commonly green, followed by yellow, and Ive even seen her with blue and red eyes, lol. So I was pretty confused... I THINK the most "correct" color is green, but yellow eyes look SO much better with her design, I had to go with yellow. It contrasts perfectly with the teal hair and reddish sleeves, etc.

I was also undecided on what color to make her nails, lol you can see this on the steps pic, that at some point I changed them to a normal pink color, but then went nah, I really like how they look when they have the same color as the hair.

And yeah another thing youll see is I didnt add a background until very late into the pic... I had no idea what I was gonna do throughout and was really considering just not doing one, but I can never make things look good if I dont have a sense of space and some kind of atmosphere/mood, so at some point I started trying some things. Never expected Id end up with a beach background since its usually something I have a lot of trouble with, but it looks good and goes really well with her colors (plus summer is almost here so yeah).

I think the way Ive been doing colors lately makes it a lot easier, and thats the main reason I used to have trouble with beach scenes, since my colors were pretty muted and dark, which obviously doesnt work when youre doing something with bright sunlight, so it always felt off.

Anyway way, expect more stuff like this in the near future, random chars that have designs I really like or possibly even original stuff, who knows. Whatever I feel like doing I guess. That said the next post will be an au ra, but I think its a pretty special one due to how Ive done the whole thing with colors and lighting so, Im pretty excited to post it as well.
