Let me start with stating the obvious. It's abhorrent the way so many people are basically slaves in the Middle East. It's absolutely repulsive. However, it's not the opulence or the gaudy lifestyle that appeals to me. It's the existence of a Muslim majority country with all that entails, Halal food, abundant Mosques, without dealing with the openly extreme fundamentalism, and lack of safety that other Muslim majority countries have. I've lived my life in the US, and Pakistan. Dubai was the first place I went to that has the modern amenities and safety that the US has as well as the cultural benefits that I was looking for. If that makes me a bad person, it is what it is. I hope they get rid of their slavery situation soon.

(I mean i have been to hk and macao but not mainland) i lived in Japan and understand what they are saying here -- japan is fucking sick and amazing and there was something about the quality of life that was very freeing and has all the aesthetics i love, but the people are only superficially welcoming after a couple of months. So I'd love to see how I'd feel in China.
