EP. 153 Bonus - Austin Update [Video]

Comments

Mr. Show validated once again

Glop

Austin what the hell is this tim and eric airplane segment

Will

Austins airplane talk makes me feel more comfortable and knowledgeable about flights.

Dean Olsabeck

hi austin! i put off watching this specific patreon episode because I'm currently on an asia trip flying on a bunch of planes and didn't want to spiral lmao, but i caved and this was actually super helpful in understanding how statistically i'll be safe. keep doing these segments in some shape!

Sophia Lopez

love the aviation segments. I feel like if this is ever brought up again on the pod, a powerpoint presentation would probably help with how ADHD everyone is. gives people something to focus on

EVO Tech

I think austin would enjoy this channel: https://www.youtube.com/@blancolirio/

zaregg

Austin's Autistic Airplane hour, LETS GOOOO!

Valkirst

We need more separate aviation segments from you!

ginnagon

Having them upload this again after 30 min of the episode is actually so funny. Had me dying how he kept going

Micah Blakeley

I love solo austin segments! When I saw it you were the first one I thought of! I'm so glad you're covering it

Sawy Er

I love hearing about aviation and I'm glad you made a separate segment. I agree with others that you need a slideshow or something to keep the rest of them focused lmao. Do more of these!! I will watch every one

Emma Helen

Austin, you GOTTA start streaming, just chatting or something. Something besides fear& and the shows

KMLthe1

I'm glad you ended up doing this as a separate segment. Always love when people talk about something they are passionate about and you def taught me a lot here :)

TsuSeika

austin the aviation artist

SamTheCowboy

I could not care less about the topic but listening to him get in depth on something he was so interested in still made it a really good listen

Brendan

Thank u Austin!

Renee

I love Gayviation

Daniel

Thanks for this, Austin!!

Chantal Zunbriel

I’m convinced it was malfunction with the tillywack revergence system. In all seriousness though thanks the for extra content Austin loved this breakdown ❤️

Dylan Snyder

loved this

Nicole Torgerson

love how he gose soo in depth of these horrible existent.

alexsi eristavi

ty austin!!!

Wenny🏳️‍⚧️ 🧡🤍🩷

more bonus stuff like this!!!!

manuel

love the aviation content austin!! hope to see more of this in the future!!

lily

please put the pop filtre back on man.

sollgryn

Austin we love your special interest segments <3 please do more

Riema

You should stream this on twitch next time

Luke

Great segment, it’s always good to hear people talk about things they are passionate about

Nathan Co

Ty Austin!! <3

G

I'd say the plane being overweight is not likely. The RAT indicates some sort of dual Engine failure

Austin

TOTALLY I was very insecure explanining it on th epod

Austin

You will be safe <3

Austin

Great question! The fuel contamination sensors are on the fuel truck which fuels several aircraft so it would have impacted all of them as well. That being said, anything is possible but I'd say that's very unlikely!

Austin

Thank you so much! this means a lot coming from somebody who has worked in aviation

Austin

That's the plan :)

Austin

I'll be expecting a separate segment like this analyzing and summarizing the full report when it comes out, thank you Austin

Haitham Khalid

Never did I ever think I’d be this interested in a plane crash. But I always love a good info dump of someone’s special interest

Danilee

Love seeing Austin working ❤️

tuki

will turned around to laugh the whole time 😭

Sasha

This was fire Austin <3 please make this a periodic segment on Patreon. Starting an Aviation YT channel would also be so sick.

nopresspls

Austin's aviation hour sounds like a great segment!

Moises Marquez

I think he should just do this segment on his own. Plane crashes are very serious. A calm setting would be better.

Ale

We need a separate segment where Austin explains plain crashes

Ani

this is why I pay for Patreon

Mario Reyes

Thank you Austin, we needed this

Isobropyl

Need more Austin solo vids

Ani

YAYYY

meemie

for more context what this weeks patreon episode

steppingstone

Loved this! Austin has such a soothing voice, he would make a great video essayist ❤️

YeetTheRich

Thank you. I loved this

Holly smith

Thank you for this, Mr. Show

ιм иσт нʋмαи

Thanks for the bonus segment Austin!

Sarah Hall

I really liked your segment on the podcast Austin, thank you for sharing your interests. Additionally, I love the mic you have it makes me feel like an airplane captain is talking to me.

Dakota Sanders

Austin you may never see this, but as an engineer who has worked in the aviation industry, this was so incredibly well explained. I hate the “this is why I don’t fly” comments because they ignore all statistics and probabilities. Thanks so much for nerding out, I am so happy more people (especially in these comments!) interested in aviation :)

Truc Le

Now this is the kinda pride content I wanna see

5thColumnEnby

love having an austin segment!

Abhik Basu

We love you Austin Show!!

Noor Irsyad

Can we get a regular Austin segment? Like girly pop and America me up but whatever Austin wants to specialize in... Gay or plane-related perhaps 🤣

Gretchen A Preheim

I’m really looking forward to you streaming more Austin<3 /eu-viewer

Alva

Yay thank you for doing this, I just finished the bonus ep and needed more detail!

Sasha

Austin PLEASE stream more! I’m genuinely interested in Aviation and it would be so cool to hear your takes more

Matilda

Oh Austin wanted to do this so bad. But I do think it's interesting thanks Austin

Raymundg15

Thank you Austin! I was actually very interested in this topic and really excited that you made another video that touched on the topics of the horrific flight that occurred. Please stream more! Very knowledgeable on your passion , love it 🗣️

Chay

Has Austin heard of Black Box Down? I could see him doing something similar

mondo

this is the first time i’ve genuinely been interested in aviation and prob one of my fav segments of the podcast - thanks austin!! also on a separate note, would it be possible for the fuel contamination sensors to break? and if so, is that a more likely option than a catastrophic software failure?

sophie!

Also this room looks great. Very warm very not millennial grey.

Deanna

Austin we loved the plane talk! Don't let the haters take you down.

Felicity

I love this please make more like this I didn't expect to find this interesting and I do!

Deanna

I love the extra segment. If you can, please give us a rundown of the previous crashes in recent years and any updates since then.

Alan

I'm flying internationally on Air India out of the Ahmedabad airport this November (bought the tickets a few days before the crash) and this was really helpful so tyvm

Radi

I love you Austin! I think your insecurity on the pod during this segment took away from how well can explain it like here

Nova Meadows

this is the content i pay for! i want Austin’s expertise to be ALWAYS shared in EVERY aviation instance. let’s go backwards to previous ones as well! he is literally the only person i trust on this, not para social, he just knows his shit!

Reen B

This is a huge compliment! thank you very much!

Austin

Genuinely have thought about doing a travel channel of sorts

Austin

i think austin’s simulator streams with hasan, jerma, and ludwig reignited my love for aviation from when i was younger. i would absolutely love more of this side of austin since he was my main draw to fear&

Jake

A good topic for the next aviation segment would be bringing up the actual statistics of different modes of transportation. Cars vs. commercial airliners vs. GA planes vs. helicopters vs. motorcycles vs. trains, etc. It may turn QT from having a fear of flying to having a fear of driving 🤣

Trevor Kelly

Austin, even if you don't continue this segment on Fear&, you could easily start a new YT channel with your aviation commentary and I believe it would be pretty successful!

Trevor Kelly

Austin you are really good at explaining this. I have a degree in aerospace engineering and you were more engaging than I remember my professors being. You should do this on stream more often or just have your own segments on Patreon if its easier.

Imrano

I love this, I actually became a fan of planes cause of my fear of them, since I’ve became more confident and love Austin do plane talk, please keep these updates coming

darian lavat

my uncle is a pilot for jet blue and i love talking to him about the mechanics and details of plane incidents. it's always a treat to hear an austin commentary on the same stuff <3

mikka

So does the rat thing deploying make the theory that the plane was overweight (something I heard when it first happened) not a possibility?

Heather

Planning on it:)

Austin

yeah I felt like podcast was all over the place I had to organize it better

Austin

Yep :)

Austin

Love this explanation! I understand that the RAT would deploy in the event of a catastrophic hydraulic or electrical failure. As I understood it, on the 787, the engines would be able to give thrust under these circumstances which in this case they did not so I was assuming it was not due to those failures. A loss of both engines, however, would cause the loss of hydraulics & electrical power which would cause the RAT to deploy (hope this makes sense)

Austin

It was hard to organize my thoughts & also I was insecure to share it with the group because it's my special interest

Austin

Mods make him do more of these pls 🙏🏾

captain jes

I wouldn't trust anyone else's commentary on this.

captain jes

I love seeing him in his element

Ryan DeRouen

I love this segment Austin, thank you for explaining

SitkaSpruce

period

Odalis

thanks for your serious take!

Crayak Risen

I mean they need to be pulled up at some point, I guess they could maybe make it so you can't retract them until you're at a certain speed/altitude but I think it's just such an incredibly rare issue that it wouldn't be worth it

Lizard

We love this king

Adina Kae

For some reason Austin explaining things like this is so calming? A segment where Austin just teaches us stuff in depth pls

bri

Okay now THIS was super engaging. Idk I think it was a mix of my own adhd and the overload of info I got overwhelmed and got lost often but honestly this was way better than the pod segment (not that you should stop continuing the pod segment by any means)

Violet Dunn

Thanks king. Great content 🙏🏼

Katie Martens

This was really interesting. I think the only person who was being a dick about your podcast segment was Hasan. Will was genuinely interested... or at least trying to be.

Keith Quackenbush

<3 love the info dump, always super interesting

astro_appa

new fear& format: intro w/random topics, girlypop nation with qt, america me up w/ will, and Austin Aviation time, then round out the ep with W's and L's of the week

runavayan

they should hurry up and make an official plane segment like girlypop nation and america me up. Austin’s Aviation Airtime. AAA for short (pronounced screaming)

doctrose

Yeah agreed! slideshow would help

Austin

Theoretically it's possible but given the conditions planes fly in every day like in Arizona or the UAE where daily temperatures exceed the conditions AI171 had on that day I would think it's VERY unlikely especially for that type of engine

Austin

I love being able to hear this with out Hank cackling in the background 💕

Aleisha B.

Thank you, Austin : ) I have a deep fear of flying, and your explanations help the logical side of my brain take over

Ofilia

Im team austin

beanaguts

Great breakdown, Austin!

godluvsaterrier

Is vapour-lock theoretically possible tho? I mean surely there's a minimum temp for this danger to arise no?

No one in particular

You need to work on making this more fun and engaging for the pod. Maybe make a slideshow? It would also help you staying on track. But in essence i find the idea to bring the world of aviation to fear& really cool!!

No one in particular

I am here for Austin's plane content.

SorakaBananasOP

Honestly i don't think that'll happen for a long while. Before her uncle died she often said 'maybe in a few years' but since then she only said no. That's my parasocial 2 cents at least

No one in particular

After watching this I now need to know what Austin’s opinion is on season 2 of The Rehearsal

Claire Ortega

This was extremely informative you can tell he knows what he is talking about. We also need some more positive airplane stories so he can talk about them more and maybe qt to fly at some point

Matt Miller

I just came in to hear Austin to talk about thrust and his flaps

Dylan Coonce

definitely enjoyed this explanation, thanks Austin!

Jay

i actually love this pls austin become employed and make videos like this for us

Olivia Davis

Thanks Austin I'm an A&P student and I appreciate this content

Sally Munoz

We need more Fear& plane talk on the pod. If Hasan gets to talk politics sometimes, then Austin can talk about planes.

Ryan McKeever

Thanks for the extra video Austin!! I always enjoy your airplane stories and coverage of accidents and whatnot! I have a bachelors and (most of) a master's in aerospace engineering where i specialized in aerodynamics and propulsion, so its a topic that I get excited about whenever it comes up! My two cents on the accident: 1) The RAT will also deploy in the event of hydraulic or electrical failures, so it may be possible that one of those lines were severed at some point during takeoff (I noticed that the aircraft began to descend shortly after the landing gear started to retract) AND the GE engines on that plane are dependent on the electrical systems for operation. 2) I did some REALLY sketchy napkin math on the mass flow rate of the air, but it mayyyyyyyy be possible the engines stopped receiving enough air to sustain combustion. From the weather reports that day, the air temperature was high and pressure was low already, and its possible that when they pitched up after takeoff, the engines flamed out (since the inlet fan cross section relative to the airflow was reduced). Either way, i dont expect either of those options to be very likely either, but the dual engine failure is so incredibly odd that i assume multiple things had to be going wrong at the same time!

Jenevelle B

This player pauses when i scroll and I'm not a fan

Phillip Ashcroft

I do always appreciate it when Austin gets serious about these sort of things. Thank you King

Jehan

Genuinely love hearing about topics from subject matter experts, wether it’s from Hasan on politics, will with film, QT on baking, and especially Austin with aviation. Really enjoyed the update Austin!

Fraser Fulton

Austin we need more of these king

Buse

I need an AustinShow Well There’s Your Problem guest episode

ScotiaSquares

This is MY pilot debrief YouTuber

Berii Cool

Yeah the reason compressor stall isn’t that likely is bc if the compressor is stalling that means it’s not compressing the correct amount of air (oxygen) meaning an excess of fuel is present which is why it shoots a trail of fire/loud pops

P Body

MINOR SPELLING MISTAKE! >:(

Chris

I think it was a typo and they meant “watch”

AsIfIKnow

Maybe it’s bc I’m ESL but I have no idea what “for more context what this weeks Patreon episode” means 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

ComradeFern

Shouldn’t there be a automated system that prevents the flaps from accidentally be pulled up? Apart from it being not what happened here.

DasBlockfloete

lesgooo, much love austin :3

BiSTRO

The stream/filming room looks great! I love the lack of grays.

DripTheCat

Thank you for this! I said on the bonus episode I couldn't understand the high level wording as an airplane normie (I flew for the first time in my 20s and I've still only been on 1 round trip) but the theories were so much easier to understand here, appreciated

Mary Fuller

The calmer vibe of this as opposed to the podcast really helped with the topic. I could follow way more easily.

Jamie Hauken

Shout-out to Austin for recording a whole extra video for us! The patrons are eating good this week.

Jamie Hauken

Austin please do more of these sit-down videos, or just chatting streams. I think a lot of us really enjoy hearing you talk - even if its usually about airports and airbus <3

Simon Laasholdt

Always nice to learn more from people with passion and knowledge on any subject. Thanks for doing this.

Dilyn Allen

Excuse you!! LOL

Austin

I love how people call me Captain I hope I can earn the name one day by getting certified :)

Austin

Yeah it's very very sad.

Austin

I can do more of these bonus episodes if you like!

Austin

Cuddling with them right now! can't wait to take them to LA

Austin

Thank you Amelia :)

Austin

Thanks Austin! I work in the aviation business but don’t know much about planes themselves and don’t watch the news so getting the scoop from someone as passionate as you is really great

Skylynn Mead

genuinely love hearing austin talk about planes!

Amelia

Austin - I hope Bumper and Bandit have a safe and comfortable flight to their new home!

Allison.Actually

We need more Austin content. Pls.

Julia Murray

Tragic story but I like this extra bit of content, and in particular I really like serious Austin.

jason baesel

Agreed

jason baesel

This is the sort of thing I sub to the patreon for

Kobert

Austin I think you should just go live on your Twitch channel to do just chatting streams tbh

Arfan Kabir

I don't know what this is yet but I'm really excited to listen to the episode and find out what requires a 13 minute seperate video for. (Unless it's something sad, in which case I'm sorry)

James Coppin

I loved this lmao

BluShampoo_

Austin you’re so passionate and informative love u king

Brittany

he's getting money from modi and Boeing

Aleks

thank u for this update queen. love u down

saturnvillage

Bro is actually working damn

Cabbagebro

Damn bro, moving to LA has Mr Show working EXTRA HOURS for us? Truly a blessing.

Breno Bezerra Bluhm

Planes are awesome

Slater Sann

Thank you Captain

Broadcasts From Poor Farm

Much needed report. Shame on Hasan for not covering this.

Samuel M

it was awesome, keep up with the planes

sanlega

LMAOOOOOO most effort Austin has ever put into the pod is to talk about a plane crash
