Final Fantasy 16 Playthrough Part 11

Comments

Thank you for the tip!

Bethany and Ken

If the next final fantasy you guys plays is 7, i would recommend playing crisis core reunion first to play the remakes in order

Having completed the new games that I didn't wanna get spoiled on, I've decided to start a New Game + run in Final Fantasy mode. Gotta say, the people I've been hearing say that Final Fantasy mode should've been the "action focused" difficulty might've been onto something. This feels way more balanced in terms of difficulty than the actual normal mode. Kinda annoying since you can only unlock it once you've beaten the game.

Gonna repost this comment I left back on part 6 now that you're getting closer to the end: Wanted to give you two a heads up while it’s still fresh in my mind (and before it’s too late). While the two big DLC quests “Echoes of the Fallen” and “The Rising Tide” were released after the game’s launch, their story content takes place BEFORE the game’s ending. You might want to consider completing them before making your way to the final mission, so you don’t get whiplash from having to do more after rolling credits. However, I also wanted to mention that doing these two quests before the ending also makes the final boss a fair bit easier than it’s “supposed” to be. Not sure how important that is to ya’ll, but just wanted to make note of it. Also, there’s a post credits scene. A rather important one at that.

2:52:34 The line where Joshua brings this up kinda got drowned out by your fight with the army of Sleipnirs, but Sleipnir is an "egi". As a reminder, an egi is effectively a familiar or an "extension" of an Eikon that manifests as as a separate being. It's not something that's exclusive to Odin. The other instance of an egi being created was during the earlier parts of the story, when Benedikta brought forth Garuda's egis Chirada and Suparna. I guess the implication is that because the first Sleipnir (named Harbard) had managed to survive alongside Barnabas for so long, he was able to develop more power and intelligence than the clones you just dealt with.

Ngl Barnabas is far more interesting as a villian than Ultima

Shiva’s Abilities ❄️ Permafrost: This is not an ability, but rather a status effect that is unique to a couple of Shiva’s abilities. I’ve decided to detail it separately due to how much there is to it. An enemy inflicted with Permafrost will be frozen solid for several seconds, even if they are in the middle of an attack animation. No enemy is immune to it. While this is good for letting Clive get more damage in and giving Eikonic abilities more time to recharge, where it becomes especially dangerous is when it’s used on staggered enemies. Inflicting Permafrost on a staggered enemy will briefly freeze the stagger meter, making it take longer for the enemy to recover. This makes the effect a key ingredient when it comes to performing to the greatest possible stagger combos. In the hands of a player that knows what they're doing, Permafrost can become damn near broken. Cold Snap: Clive manifests Shiva’s cape and glides in any direction. This can be used on the ground or in midair. While this makes it helpful when avoiding AoE attacks, there’s quite a bit more that it can do. Pressing the circle button during Cold Snap’s dodge animation will cause Clive to glide a second time and leave behind a large ice crystal. Enemies who touch this crystal will be inflicted with Permafrost. Better yet, precision dodging a melee attack will freeze any enemy near Clive for a duration relative to the strength of the dodged attack. The more lethal the evaded blow, the longer enemies will be permafrozen. While the timing of Cold Snap’s precision dodge is smaller than a regular precision dodge, I always use it as my go-to dodge for any short-ranged attack. Just be careful if you freeze an enemy mid-attack in this way, as they’ll continue their swing as soon as they unfreeze. Ice Age: Clive sends out a torrent of glaciers in a fixed direction, with the ice crystals growing taller the further the attack extends. These glaciers will launch small enemies into the air and deal solid damage to HP. This ability uses the “windup” meter you’ve seen before, so holding it until the meter hits red is most ideal. Unleashing this ability when the time is right will cause the ice torrent to widen and increase the knockback on small enemies. Hitting them with the charged-up version of Ice Age will also freeze them briefly, letting you follow up however you choose. Big enemies won’t get knocked back though, so be mindful of your spacing to deal the most damage to them. Rime: Clive sends out a large spinning ice crystal that deals low continuous damage to enemies caught in it. Bigger enemies will not be caught by its puling power. The crystal also has a fixed distance at which it spawns, so you must be mindful of your spacing when sending it out. You can press the ability’s execute button before the first crystal fades if you misjudge the distance and want to reposition the crystal. Since Rime doesn’t deal much damage on its own, its primary purpose is to bring smaller enemies together and knock ‘em around so they won’t interrupt your attacks. Mesmerize: Clive fires out a series of ice shards that will damage and pull small enemies closer to him. This move is easily the most situational of Shiva’s abilities. It has the shortest cooldown period of any Eikonic ability and doesn’t deal much damage on its own. It’s also useless against big enemies that can’t be pulled in. Its key purpose is to help Clive gather smaller enemies for follow up AoE attacks like Garuda’s Wicked Wheel, Titan’s Upheaval, or Ramuh’s Pile Drive. Diamond Dust: Upon entrusting Clive with her Eikon’s signature attack, she gave him one of the most powerful weapons he’ll ever have. Diamond Dust has Clive create a blizzard that will inflict all nearby enemies with Permafrost and pierce them with waves of ice crystals, knocking all small enemies back. This ability deals the most stagger damage out of any attack in Clive's arsenal. Pairing this attack with the right accessories, Ramuh’s Lightning Rod, and/or Garuda’s abilities will fucking devour the will gauges of any future enemies. But wait, there’s more! Using Diamond Dust on a staggered enemy does wonders. It’ll instantly max out the stagger multiplier, and since the blizzard inflicts Permafrost, will halt the recovery of the stagger gauge for a moment. This ability never comes off any build that I use in this game. It’s just too good. Summary: Apart from Diamond Dust, Shiva’s abilities are not made to deal much in the way of HP or stagger damage on their own. Her attacks specialize in crowd control over groups of small enemies with their relatively short cooldown periods and focus on gathering/freezing several small targets. Most of them aren’t too useful against larger and heavier opponents. In other words, she’s best used as an Eikon you begin a battle with so you can follow up with other Eikonic abilities to lay on more significant damage. This is especially true of Cold Snap and Diamond Dust since they inflict Permafrost.

20:00 A popoto is essentially Final Fantasy's equivalent of a potato. They're more prominent in FF14.

JT

6:25 I think a few people have mentioned this before, but ya might want to consider upgrading Clive's basic moves like Burning Blade and Charged Magic to help break shields. That way you don't have to go wasting Eikonic Abilities on just one enemy.

JT

Oh yeah, been meaning to ask. Ya mentioned before about how you two are currently playing through Clair Obscur atm. Does that mean it'll just be uploaded as one massive video, or will it be rolled out in parts?

JT

Guess I’ll just keep reusing this comment: Leaving this post as another reminder for thoughts and feedback on the VGM playlists. The more descript, the better. Ya’ll have done me the courtesy of listening to me prattle on here over on Patreon (and sometimes on YT), so I’d love nothing more than to hear your notes on how I could improve/alter them to your liking, and if you’ve taken a fancy to any particular songs.
