2024-11-23 00:34:42 +0000 UTCI never read the LN, but the anime seems to be closer to the manga version. I think the manga was slightly more serious and slightly less toonish with it's violence, but it was still pretty tame. And outside of that the vibe's practically the same. That said, I do wish the anime had slightly better animation. This fight's pretty fire in manga, but I felt like the anime didn't get that across properly. Would've been awesome if it got the same level of animation as Reincarnated as a Sword (with the catgirl loli wielding a big talking sword).

You have to differentiate between the mind-control part of Subjugation where they're all drones, that part Haruka can turn off. But the status as Subjugated is something Haruka can't reverse, he outright admits that to Armor Rep Angelica in this very episode.

In the Light Novel, where the class takes Haruka's absence much harder, like outright despair and desperately running themselves ragged trying to get down to Haruka, that was in fact one thing that kept the Class from falling fully into despair, because Subjugated individuals actually get Exp if the master kills something, so that the "Mean Girls" were still getting Exp out of nowhere told them that Haruka was still alive and killing things. That's also why the "Mean Girls" were actually doing the best, because thanks to the Haruka-Exp they were actually stronger and higher-leveled than the others. As for the jock's neck Brandon, even putting aside that this is an anime you'd be amazed how flexible the human spinal chord can be. I once saw someone on a moped failing to break in time, he went right over the handrail as the whole moped flipped, he faceplanted into the ground, his neck also looked like it'd snapped back 90° as the moped flopped on him and his entire back turned into a sideways U-shape. I was asking myself if the guy was dead or just paralysed, but while it definitely knocked him out, a few minutes later when he woke up the guy could actually stand on his own to climb into the ambulance.
