Reviving My Other Channel (Please Help It Get Monetised)

I felt now was a good time to remind you all that I have another channel @emptymasks, my first channel also the name I use on socials to post my art under, because I’m going to be using it again! It’s sat dormant for a while because I was putting all my energy into here but some of you may be aware I’ve been stressing about my income as my Patreon members and income has been going down for some months now and this month Patreon is telling me I’m going to be down almost £1000 less than I was making last month on there. And that’s… very scary, especially for someone who’s currently trying to move out (yes I’m still moving, yes I am trying, I keep getting rejected from everywhere I apply too because other people offer more money or can pay up-front in cash in full) . And to help combat this, earlier this year I reopened audio commissions, added new art commission options, launched Youtube channel memberships, got a bunch new art in my Etsy shop and started streaming more frequently on Twitch. As well as starting to post my art and Etsy updates again on my emptymasks Tiktok and Instagram after wanting to quit using them. But… it hasn’t been enough. And I don’t say this to make any of you feel bad, I’m eternally grateful for all the support you guys give me even if it’s not financial. I had just hoped with how well the Cookie Run audios were doing viewcount-wise that it would result in a lot of new subscribers and possibly new Patreon members, but it just hasn’t, my monthly subs are still at the same amount there were before making the Cookie Run audios and it’s results in no new Patreons and in fact I’m having a loss of Patreons at the moment.

What does this mean for my emptymasks Youtube channel? Well, I want to start posting my Tiktok’s over there as Youtube shorts. These will be videos of me packing up Etsy orders, showing what I sold each week, showing new art and items I’ve made, as well as occasional speedpaints and other art related videos. But, you might notice I already have some regular videos over there. If you haven’t watched any of my non-ASMR videos before, I have two videos over there I’m still proud of which is my video essay on the transphobia of season one of Marvel’s Loki series, and my silly most-viewed video “European musicals being gay for less than 30 minutes” which is a compilation I edited together of… well exactly what the titles says.

You might notice both of these were posted 3 years ago and there’s been no uploads to that channel since… Well I actually had more ideas for video essays and even started working on planning out and scripting more, however being trans in the Marvel fandom and talking about the transphobia in a Marvel show on what was still Twitter at the time… led to, as I’m sure you can imagine, me receiving a lot of hate and harassment to the point I just had to stop going online much for a while. And all my other video essays I wanted to make… got left to rot in my PC files.

But! It’s been years. And European musicals are still my autistic special interest that will never go away. And I’ve got you guys now who are so lovely with your support and acceptance, that I’m ready to go again. Not only will I be posting shorts over there, but I want to finally finish these video essays. I have two major ones planned, one about Elisabeth das Musical, my main and biggest special interest that many of you have heard me ramble about and is the basis for my Death ASMR audio roleplay series. And the one I’ve just started working on again, by which I mean literally I got so excited writing up this post I had to pause and go and finally write the intro for that video essay, will be about vampire musicals and why they suck (and perhaps… the one that doesn’t).

Hopefully those sound like things you guys might be interested in watching? Or you’re interested in going and watching what I already have posted over there? And I’m going to do something that makes me feel guilty… and ask you to subscribe over there. My emptymasks channel isn’t monetised, if I post all these shorts and video essays… they won’t make me a penny. In order to be monetised the channel needs to have 1k subscribers and 4k hours of watch-time in the last 12 months. So if you guys would subscribe, watch some videos, or even have them playing in a muted tab in the background, that would mean a lot and allow me to try and make a little bit more money over on that channel to help with moving and just general living costs.

The videos I post over here won’t change, it’ll still be 3 ASMR videos every week as well as the occasional animation meme of my original characters, while I continue to ship out Etsy orders every week, take audio and art commissions, stream, draw and work on my website. Currently I’ve been working on pages for each of my original characters, essentially making my own Wiki for them, as well as planning out new audio OCs and redesigning an old group of OCs that I have big plans for including making audios of them, making them an unfiction website and ideally a visual novel.

As proof of me working on the video essay and a little treat and thank you, here’s a peak at part of the intro to the script I wrote this morning (this is the second draft of the intro and may be rewritten and changed for the final video):

Well… they tried. Many have tried. And the results have been… mostly not great. It’s happened so many times you can find multiple articles, videos and threads asking why vampire musicals fail and are they always doomed to fail? And you may ask, then why are you making this video if others have already talked about this this? Well because whenever people talk about vampire musicals they only focus on Broadway. I’m not doing that. As someone who fell backwards into my autistic special interest being German musical theatre and by extension looking into all non-English language musical theatre, there’s many musicals that these other people just don’t mention or perhaps don’t even know exist. And that’s a shame because there’s so many more weird vampire musicals outside of the USA.

You’ve seen the title of this video. Vampire musicals suck right (pun intended)? That’s what the world seems to think, with articles and reviews titled “The Vampire Musical: Broadway’s Greatest Money Sucker” and “Want a show to be a sure-fire flop? Make it about vampires”. Which is a shame, as someone who loves vampires enough his other internet persona is a vampire who has the word ‘vampire’ in his name and who’s ultimate gender envy is the twinks from Castlevania and Vampire Hunter D, because I love vampires and I love musical theatre and I’d love to see them mesh well together.
