Full Length Reaction Guide

We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync.  Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen.  Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. The same will happen when we press play after pausing. You will press play as the number reaches 0.  Here are some popular ways people sync up the reaction with their own copy of the show:

We hope you enjoy the video!

agree, i actually cannot remember most of the actual case, i just remember that there is some insane shit going on but honestly i saw it so long ago i forgot the details. but the heart of the series, the characters, the atmosphere, the way the story is structured... that is imbedded in my mind.

That was Jesse Pinkman's mother who played the mother of the victim! Yeah Marty is gaslighting his wife more than a "little bit". Rust is too self aware and thinks this job with all it horrors is incompatible with family life or any relationship. While Marty is in denial and separates everything, but looking at his kids dolls, cleary his job still invades his home. Probably there is a balance somewhere between Marty's jolly hypocrisy and Rust's misery but this sure seems hard. True Detective definitely isn't your traditional tv mystery. I would say its atmosphere, its characters and their philosophy are the most memorable elements of the show. I have actually forgotten about most of the case, so I'm rediscovering it with you guys.

When they said Andrew... they are talking about Hurricane Andrew that happened in 1992. Wreaked havoc on that area.

Stephen Blair

This is a show built on atmosphere and the relationship between the two leads. It's deliberately slow-paced. These are flawed characters, but are incredibly watchable and easy to root for. This is a mature and artful show, so just wanting likable characters is a very simplistic and superficial way to watch it.

Thanks for filling that in.

It seems that they are meandering their way around telling what happened as both Marty and Rust are filling in the details piece by piece as the story unfolds. I agree that Rust is a fascinating character. He and Marty are both really smart in their own way. Rust is observing all the details and coming up with some interesting theories. Marty is smart in that he has more of a grip on reality. But I believe Rust really has a way of cutting through stuff and seeing beneath it all or behind the curtain. Good team.

Just FYI, there is a 17 year gap between the original murders and the interviews. Murders were in 1995 and the two cops are being interviewed in 2012

I'm glad you guys are enjoying even though you feel it's slow at the moment. But trust me, this world building pays off 100% and you'll love what's about to come. The two lead characters are amazing, but Rust must be one of the best ever created! Matthew and Woody knocked it out of the park. Can't wait for the rest!!!

This is definitely the "slow" episode and it's more or less working on establishing the characters further. More focus on their lives and their situations rather than developing the case, which is reflected in the chief shouting at them in the end since he and everyone else is also frustrated that they are taking so long solving the case (just like the audience lol) - not my favorite episode but it does a great deal in building the characters and making us develop our feeling for them.

Alex Andersson

Rust is seriously one of the best characters ever made.
