Full Length Reaction Guide

We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync.  Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen.  Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. The same will happen when we press play after pausing. You will press play as the number reaches 0.  Here are some popular ways people sync up the reaction with their own copy of the show:

Dune Part 1 (2021) Movie Uncut Reaction

Comments

If you like to read books, it's well worth to read the original book. The first two books, maybe the third then it starts going into real dune universe fans only :) I like all the books, but I'm a nerd and realise many won't like the third and forward books. The two first though, is great great sci-fi books.

Nirre

Hi guys, I finally gained the courage to watch this film for the first time (note, it's hard for me to see new movies, especially of this genre) and it was great to watch it with you. It's as if you were sitting here next to me. I loveeedd the move, I loved the reaction that aligned with mine. Definitely an experience to repeat.

Loren

WHOO had a great time watching with you guys. Dune has become one of the greatest movie(s) I've ever seen. Truly an experience. The end discussion trying to figure out Paul was too relatable lol🤣

Toan Toan

Likely Thursday if you’re in the US

TallTyrionLannister

Anyone know when their dune part 2 reaction is coming out? 🥹

Bel

I believe they have not seen this??? It happens in part 2....

Jenna

Sweeeeeeeet! Can’t wait for part 2

Demo

Y'all should definitely do a rewatch on a big screen just to get how much of a spectacle it is. Watched both Dune 1 and 2 in IMAX and it was a completely different movie

Demo

Arrival 100%

If you're wondering and someone hasn't already clarified with you, there's a very good reason why you don't see many traditional guns in the Dune universe. Personal shields (like the one's you see many people use in this movie) make traditional projectile guns practically useless. Except on Arrakis, because people can't use shields because of the worms. You see Paul steal one of the Fremen's pistols at the end. Though supply is limited. There are also Lasguns. The laser beam that was in the opening scene with the Fremen attack on the spice harvester, and when the Sardaukar were trying to capture Paul and Jessica. These weapons are obviously extremely powerful, but have a massive side effect. If a lasgun makes contact with a shielded object, essentially a nuclear reaction occurs. Massive explosion that would kill the attacker and attacked. So those are very dangerous to use. So since most handheld guns were made useless, people developed those poison darts that you also see in this movie that can penetrate shields at a slow rate. All in all, that's generally why there is so much more hand to hand combat in Dune than you'd expect out of a futuristic sci-fi.

TallTyrionLannister

We need more Denis Villeneuve after you guys finish part 2. If you want to stay on the sci fi side of things, i would recomend Blade Runner 2049 or Arrival. If you would like more of a detective solving mistery kinda movie Prisoners is one of the best psychological thrillers ever made.

Pablo

Denis Villeneuve has been obsessed with Dune since like, forever. He has been making storyboards since the 90s! It really is a passion project for him and you can see that in these two movies. There are so many shots that are like paintings, especially in Part Two. And then you have Hans Zimmer who completely nails the score.. amazing. If you guys ever have a chance to see these movies in the theater again I would highly recommend. It literally shook my bones lol

Eve

Are we finally turning these two to the dark side and SciFi?

Hans Engelen

Spartan: I have never seen this actor before. That’s wrong you saw him a few weeks ago in Interstellar. He was the son of Cooper

Rey Jr

I had the same thought as Pudgy did about Timmy. But then I rewatched The King and was reminded how good he is. You guys should watch The King, even if it is on your own time and not a reaction. Can’t wait for your Dune Part Two Reaction.

Sadie

Also, Lucy's dad in the fallout show played paul atreides in the 1984 dune film adaptation!

FullMetal B

"With my carrot cake" made me laugh so hard lol

FullMetal B

Cannot wait for you guys to see part 2!! One scene in particular … 😍

Natalie-Anne

The bagpipes playing in the battle always gets me hyped! 😍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I love how much you guys loved the film, can’t wait for part 2

Super Novice

good reaction guys

Augustine Lee

Shogun and Dune. Y’all are watching some great stuff. Hyped to see more Villeneuve films in the future

Rey Jr

I'd suggest there was a mix of reasons this outcome came to be, and the primary and biggest one, I'd argue was that Jessica fell into a true love with Leto that superseded the Bene Gesserit dictate to have a daughter. Did she potentially also consider the possibility that if she had a son it could maybe be the the Bene Gesserits planned "ideal" aka the Kwisatz Haderach, sure, but I believe the relationship with Leto was the primary motivator. She is not really someone with a big draw to power or fame of any kind, and having the KH be your son invites a lot of danger both to yourself and to your child. Jessica's choice to bear a son is also partially due to her desire to help Leto overcome the devastating loss of his first son, Victor, by his prior concubine Kailea Vernius, as well, but the movie doesn't go into that.

SuddenImpulse

Paul's vision of his fight with Jamis ended with what looked like his death... but I think, had the vision gone on for longer, he would have seen that he survived and then Jamis would have taught him. But, Paul's fear of death led him to change that future.

AP

I like that Spartan pointed out the dark look on Lady Jessica's face right at the end. Most people dont realize it (i sure did not on my first watch) but i think there is something really selfish about her. Like she went against her order to produce male prospect that would inherit all her power in hopes that he would be this all powerfull being even tho it was not the right time or whatever. And i think she really need it to be her, she HAD to be the mother of god even tho she knows its all part of a plan and not like devine intervention or a prophecy or anything like that. And now she is pushing all the buttons to make people think her son is the messiah, i think thats the reason of that dark smirk at the end, her plans are in motion. So yeah only now watching it again i really think she is kinda sick.

Pablo

tbf people lover comparing them cause they do have so many similarities while also being different. it’s clear george lucas took a lot especially to do with Luke and Anakin from Paul.

Owen Hargrave

^--In addition to this, when the first movie released it was not titled Dune Part 1. It was just titled Dune. So I think this messed with people expectations. People that weren't familiar with Dune, some of them went in expect this movie to be a complete story. Then you get super engrossed in a 2 1/2 hour film and then all the sudden it just ends with them walking to the fremen seitch. That is kind of a big hit on expectations for some.

SuddenImpulse

Regarding negative opinions: I think it was difficult for some people who didn't know ther books because part one is mostly set-up and world building, the second will give you the payoff. So might have left some unsatisfied. Also, regarding possible confussion about the visions: your understanding is quite good. Paul doesn't see exactly the future, he see's multiple possible futures that might or might not happen. Possible futures like branches of a tree. In a different branch, Jamis (the Fremen he killed) might have been his teacher. Paul could see that and learn from this possible future. But his road led him through a different path where he had to kill him. Also, it's difficult for him because the visions are quite blurred, he might not always understand well what he is seeing.

Chris B

When Pudgey said he seemed hesitant like he was signing his death warrant or something. I sat back with my carrot cake and said, "Oh, you're good."

AP

YEEEESSSS

Meia-noite

So much CGI in the previous movie that its a bit hard to tell, but I'm sure they'll notice next time!

Alex Ocean

Dont know if you notice but Stilgar, the fremen sietch leader that visited them in the begining and reapeared at the end is played by Javier Bardem who also played Captain Salazar in the last pirates movie. Weird that you watched them back to back and didnt notice it, i thought for sure you guys will pick that up. He is one of the best actors ever.

Pablo

Artsy films? He is in like every single big movie nowdays

Pablo

I had to wear Atreides green for this reaction!!!!!!

Rosemary

I would say this was a different role for Timothee Chalamet as he tends to stick to artsy films

Guadalupe Rosas

"to kill a man is to kill yourself" In order to be "reborn" Paul had to kill Jamis someone he thought would be friend. It was mentioned in the beginning but as you can see you can't trust Pauls visions not in a literal way. When Paul had the vision about Chani stabbing him he realized it wasn't literal and he said the actual message was the knife "someone will hand me a knife" and now you saw it was Chani. I'm obsessed with this book and now these movies if you guys need any non spoilerly answers to your questions I shall arise.

Rosemary

PEAKKKKVILLLEEEE

Rosemary

Hype. Let’s go, time for a late night watch 🫡

Isaac_

To be fair, Dune is 1000% more scientifically accurate compared to Star Wars. Even though Dune obviously stretches a lot of stuff. But most of it is grounded in reality.

TallTyrionLannister

Timothy Chalamet played the young version of cooper's son in Interstellar! He almost drove off the cliff chasing the drone, lol.

FullMetal B

I wonder if y’all would like Star Wars. Very different from Dune but people love comparing them

Kotlan

Agree, as someone who didn't grow up with Star Wars, I love these much more

Alex Ocean

😭😭💔

CpaSpartan Pudgey

Snake juice send me flying 😅 such a great movie 👌 next one is a masterpiece 🔥

Monkey D. Tomy

Funny that spartan has a house stark shirt here. I feel like the Atreides and the Starks have a lot in common.

Pablo

The reality is Star Wars takes inspiration from like 100 different things like vietnam or Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress. Dune takes some inspiration from things too, but obviously its pretty unique and it was definitely a departure and subversion from the majority of the scifi genre of its time period which was in many ways the opposite of what Dune is, so Dune very much a pillar of science fiction. You will see how different Star Wars and Dune are in many ways once you get to them. Science fiction has many different sub-genres within it, and its certainly the case with these two sagas. They both have things to offer, and they have different themes and focuses, but also some similarities.

SuddenImpulse

Sounds like Herbert was a whiny baby. That's business.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

It’s so cute how they talked about Dune and Star Wars in the beginning as if they are hardcore sci fi films like Interstellar where they get the science just right and realistic. When they are both just space fantasy stories with more in common with LOTR or Game of Thrones lol

Ian Mossner

It is not a debate actually. Frank Herbert had a lawsuit drawn up against George Lucas for plagiarism. He just didn’t go through with it because he didn’t think Star Wars was going to be popular. He also calls out George Lucas directly in one of the later books by naming something derogatory after one of George Lucas’s characters.

Ian Mossner

Definitely wait on starting Star Wars, its an endless amount of content it can be overwhelming take your time!!!!

Rosemary

THIS IS MY STAR WARS

Rosemary

Yes! That was so underrated too, I didn't see any adverts or know anything about it until I sawbthe title on the theater marquee. Fantastic film.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

I love a good throat tune

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Just my opinion but the Star Wars original trilogy is a thousand times better than Dune

Erin

I know you mentioned having a sci-fi itch, a one-off movie that came out last year is called "The Creator", in case you want to watch something shorter before committing to something larger like Star Wars

Alex Ocean

***ORCHESTRAL THROAT SINGING BEGINS***

SuddenImpulse

As much as I enjoy Dune (part 2 more than part 1), Star Wars is FAR superior

Erin

Every sci-fi community claims Star Wars ripped off their series. Look, everything is based on something. Even Mark Hamill thought Star Wars was a parody of Flash Gordon. So I'll put it this way: Star Trek and Dune are more philosophical while Star Wars is more psychological.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

**Deep Breath** LET'S GO!!!!

Farbod

Yeah this is gonna be so good. Excited to see the reaction and what you think of this world

Connor W

Sweet! This is such a visual masterpiece 😍

You guys are gonna love this. I just watched part 2 and I'm hooked on dune. About to read the books
