Monday Night movie watch-a-long!!
Added 2025-01-19 17:46:38 +0000 UTCSarah-
I really meant to post this the other day, but better late than never, amirite?
So Maggie and I are going to be starting a Monday night movie watch along. It will be most Monday evenings at 6pm EST starting on 1/20/25 (we'll let you know asap if we have to cancel a night!)
We will be using Teleparty (formerly Netflix Party) and have paid for the premium version, so if you want to watch along with us, this is how you do it. There's no cost to use Teleparty to join our watch-a-longs, but you do need to have an existing subscription to whatever streaming service we will be using to watch the movie. We'll announce the movie and the service its on ahead of time.
- Visit Teleparty (link here!) and install the browser extension (remember, you only need the free version to watch along).
- We will post the Party Link on Patreon shortly before 6pm. You only need to click on it to join the watch-a-long. There will be a chat available for everyone to use if they like and the movie will be synced for all watchers. Maggie & I will have control of stopping & starting the show in case we need to stop and discuss or react to something.
- If you happen to join late, you will be synched to wherever we are in the movie at the time of your joining.
We will mostly be watching horror movies (Maggie is terribly disappointed in my lack of exposure to them), but we'll be kicking this whole thing off with Rocky Horror Picture Show, as the greater tragedy is the fact that Maggie hasn't seen it at all. RHPS is correctly staking on Disney+, which means Frankenfurter is a Disney princess and I will hear nothing else.
Bring your popcorn & we hope to see you there!

So where do we get the link to the teleparty so we can load the software?

2025-01-19 21:00:23 +0000 UTCBack east (1979), once my brother didn't want to see a movie with his girlfriend. It was the only night the famous Waverly Theatre would be showing Judy Garland's last film "I Could Go On Singing!"... Not wanting to go to the Greenwich Village theater alone for the 10pm showing, she asked *me,* thinking as leverage pointing out, "You're a Judy Garland fan..." I had to remind her, "I'm not a Judy Garland fan: I'm a 'Wizard of Oz' fan; there's a difference..." But to keep her safe I accompanied her. This was the theater where the famous "Rocky Horror Picture Show" would screen each Friday night, but this was a Thursday. The Judy Garland movie was dreadful; I began to understand why Judy took her own life. It felt like three+ hours long (I was horrified to learn later it's about 95 minutes or so). At the end of this dreary slog, the P.A. kicked in for the six audience members (of which we were two): "We usually clear the theater for our midnight showing of 'All Dressed Up With No Place To Go,' but if y' wanna stay for it, y' can..." We were all, "What th' hell kind of title is *that*...?" Within moments the entire "Rocky Horror Picture Show" fan club rushed in, and took up the front three rows or so. Correctly suspecting they had a riff-litany for this feature, as they did for "Rocky Horror," we stayed. Their litany was hilarious. The surreal comedy film was ridiculously bonkers, but for us what *really* made the movie was a scene where the protagonist is watching a magician silently perform (during which our distracted protagonist's backpack is stolen). But there's a shot of those also watching the magician. And I leaned over to my brother's girlfriend and whispered, "Huh: that woman looks like my friend Carole Wallace from the Studio Playhouse; she and my mom did some movie work together a year or so ago..." It *was* Carole: another, wider shot of the crowd and *there's my mother* standing there...! We gleefully freaked out. At the end of the night we spoke with the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" fan club president, mentioning this surprising weirdness, and pulling on a few relationship threads, he realized through another mutual friend, he began to realize he may very well have *met* my mother, so he was thrilled to know he "knew" someone who's in the film, giving him some street cred bragging rights with the fan club. It took me over *twenty years* to find that film; I was aware its *original* title was "Pelvis," after the protagonist. The film wasn't released on VHS (to my knowledge), *but* eventually I learned it'd been retitled, to "Toga Party," and I risked ordering it on DVD. Sure enough, I had finally found it, and without the litany it was god-awful, but... there's Mom... 😉 30 May, my Mom turns 98.

2025-01-19 20:59:48 +0000 UTCS) I agree, but due some people, that experience can be really off-putting. I watched it first at someone's house and honestly think I'd if seen it in a theater I would have hated it and all the people who like it so damn much lol

2025-01-19 20:49:31 +0000 UTCIt's just that it's very experiential. I suspect if I'd seen it before attending such an event, I'd probably think the film on its own is okay to meh.

2025-01-19 20:45:13 +0000 UTCYou should see Rocky Horror for the first time at a midnight cinema showing with a fan filled audience that does the litany with the film...
