Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers

Comments

Hi Guys, catching up on the Patreon videos. Bill Withers was one of the most soulful singers of his day. His ability to hold notes and control his breathing is shown here on the 'c'mon, c'mon, c'mon' section of the song, and is famously evident on 'Lovely Day', one of my favourite songs of all time. He wrote and sang many wonderful songs in the 70s and passed away in 2020.

I discovered Bill Withers back on Grover Washington Jr.'s called Winelight on a tune called 'Just the Two of Us' #nicknlexrequest . Of course, when I did I just had to back track and listen to his older songs.

Like you, I'm passingly familiar with the original. This live version was brilliant. One of the all time great songs.

Mike Nichols

I used to think he was singing about a female, until I read that the song was inspired by watching the Jack Lemmon movie The Days Of Wine And Roses, which was about the ups and downs of fighting alcoholism. Withers said that sometimes you miss things that aren't good for you. There is a great cover of this song by Geoff Castellucci, who is the bass singer of the vocal group Voice Play, where he sings many harmony parts. This guy has a remarkable vocal range, and has a number of songs where he sings all of the parts.

What Sis said ⬆️ ✨💕😉👍

Saw Stevie Wonder at an award ceremony and he said he wished he had written and sung this song! I read Bill Withers was installing toilets in airplanes before his music took off. I fairly recently heard that Bill Withers has a live album that is supposed to be supremely excellent and ranking with the best of whatever category.

Anybody else out there count the number of "I knows"? Compared to the original recording?

Always loved this song, it is actually still on one of my iPods! I agree with Michelle, "Grandma's Hands" is a great one, as well as "Use Me" and "Lovely Day." 🎵❤️🎵

Soulful, smooth and sweet. You could make it longer by adding 5 more minutes of “I know, I know, I know”. Jk. “Grandma’s Hands” is another sweet track. Thanks Familia! 😊👍

Now I have to send this song to a friend I haven't seen/heard from in a while...

Great Scott

Great version very hip shows his awesome range and vocal prowess. 😎
