I give this an 8/10 as well on first listen, might go down to a 7.5/10 down the road as it ages. I’m from LA and a lot of the flows hit at home but when stacked against some of his other work it doesn’t stand up. DAMN is my favorite Kdot album and TPAB and GKMC are neck and neck for 2nd place so I immediately can’t say this is a top 3 Kdot album. Still enjoyable and it’s still on replay, would definitely say I prefer it over Mr Morale and it’s right next to Section 80.

For me after 10 listens its a MISS,i listened this yesterday at work for like 3-4 times in a row and i thought damn this is a no skip album maybe....perfectly balanced because of the amazing strong intro that lets you tolerate more the next 2 tracks (02 is mid modernwestcoast ,03 is nice r&b) and the man in the garden its smooth and ok nice because of how it ends..the reincarnated is verry nice amd nostalgic but i must say that the lil wayne version (im a ridah) is more beautifully for me..not impressed by Kendrick take but give him props for trying to reincarnate 2pac,but after more listens at this point after this it’s all downfall for me…same exhausted west coast mustard beat wich i already didn’t like with ‘not like us ‘ and bow i have to listen to more of thisss? RE: REINCARNATED: My interpretation is that in the last verse, "Kendrick" understands why his Father has kicked him out (in this life, but also call back to the past lives, but also setting up the bigger scene: God kicking Lucifer out of Heaven). He "Kendrick"/aka this incarnation now understands and "forgives" IE grows from the pride. The back and forth is really between Lucifer and God, but also works on the Kendrick level. God explains to Lucifer that he kicked him out due to his anxiety and disobedience ("You didn't like authority, only searched to be heinous"), but acknowledges that Lucifer was God's best director "You were my best director... it was colors, reds... blues..." (the Bible references Lucifer as the angel of music). This is a great album. Been wanting Kendrick to do a fun west coast album after Not Like Us, and he did just that, and more. Squabble Up, hey now, and tv off are fire tracks. Reincarnated is amazing as well. SZA tracks are on point too. There are some songs for me that are not as good as the others unfortunately, like man at the garden, dodger blue, and gnx, so it’s not a perfect score. But the highs are very high
