Yeah this episode broke a lot of people. Usually the "wtf is this episode?" question comes later, during the Holly abduction. When you said it during the first scene with Hank, I was like, "Oof, this is gonna be a rough one for her." But I knew you'd understand the phone call! Such a great performance for Walt to be crying on one end and barking orders on the other. Sometimes reactors are shocked into silence after this episode and can't do an outro (e.g. Underdog Mr. Williams), but I hope you find the time to recap this episode and what stood out to you, especially since filming.

I don't know if you noticed it but there is a pair of pants lying in the desert as Walt rolls the money barrel. This is actually the same pair you see falling on the ground in the opening scene of the first episode.

In the end it was very important that he called Marie. First of all it was their last phone call and he could tell her that he loved her. Their relationship was always so strong. And secondly he told her that he has Walt which was crucial information for her, Skylar and Flynn. So they knew something must have happened to him.

This is always the episode I anticipate the most when watching with someone who hasn't seen it before, because as you said the whole series has been leading up to it and you feel that with every scene. Flynn just completely breaks my heart here. His "Uncle Hank's dead? It just can't be true" in the middle of the scene is so heart wrenching. He learns one world shattering thing after another without a moment to process any of it. So how quickly and decisively he acts to protect his mother by putting himself in front of her, and then having the clarity to call for help and explain the situation speaks volumes to me of his character. Surprisingly most reactors don't realize what Walt is doing while on the phone with Skyler. I knew you would get it though lol.

yes Game of Thrones came close. The season 2 finale of Hannibal had a 9,9 for a while but I think it went to 9,8. Same with Person of Interest - 2 episodes had a 9,9 before. including the series finale. The 'Six feet Under' series finale still has a 9,9 and is the second highest rated episode of all time when it comes to last digits . And there are others that come very close. But Ozymandias is the only 10/10. 👍👍

This episode is like a punch in the gut. Pure tragedy. And from a show that started almost like a dark comedy. That flashback scene in the beginning was the last scene they shot. I wonder if the scene of them cooking in the very first episode was the first scene they shot as well. Which means it truly starts and end there.

Ricardo B,

The first time I watched Breaking Bad, I legitimately thought Hank would find a way to survive, for two reasons: 1. Whenever a TV show kills off a main character, they always do it at the end of an episode, never the beginning. 2. Hank had found a way to get out of deadly situations before, like when he killed the Salamanca twins without his gun. If anyone could get out of this predicament, it would be Hank. So when the show subverted my expectations by killing Hank at the start, I was in total shock. To this day, it's the only TV show I've seen that has killed a major character at the beginning of an episode.

I was just about to post this. A few Game of Thrones episodes come close with 9.9 ratings, but I believe this is the only 10/10 on the site.

What an episode. The car at the end was the vaccum repair disappearer who stopped for Jesse at that same pick up spot before Jesse stormed back due to the Brock realisation

Perhaps the only episode in imdb's history to score a perfect 10/10. I've seen several 9.8's and a few 9.9's, but this is still the only 10 I've ever seen.
