This week the boys head to London to start their first Euro Tour!
This trip was when things started to feel pretty “real” for me. Getting to travel abroad to play music was always a dream that I thought I’d never get to live out so this one felt really good.
Seth: It was a long flight to the U.K. but I think it only really hit us once we were pulled out of the custom's queue to what Andrew termed the "playpen." This roped-off area was where everyone with unusual paperwork and work visas had to wait while everything was double-checked by the back office.
After 30 minutes or so we started to think something went wrong, and would be sent on the first flight back to the U.S. But thankfully our info must have checked out because they waved us through.
From there we made our way to the flat above the Beggar's offices, where we tried to fight the jet lag after a quick game of ping-pong. But after no real luck in the sleep department, I ventured out to the nearest Sainsbury's only to be turned away because my credit card didn't work at the checkout.
The next day we played our first show in London at Servant's Jazz Quarters, which I'm going to guess didn't get a lot of amplified bands at the time. I distinctly remember the promoter asking if we could turn down the drums during sound check while Andrew immediately laughed it off as a joke. The rest of us knew she wasn't joking, but probably realized there wasn't anything we could do that would help in this reflective stone basement cellar.
