Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number review

This review is a nice example of the problems I face now that I'm a solo indie critic. When I had a staff, this is the kind of game I'd delegate to someone else - someone with more patience and more natural inclination toward the kind of game Hotline Miami is. Not quite possible now. My budget is still not in a place where I'm comfortable with freelancers - especially not at the rate *I* want to pay them (better than big outlets), and there's high demand for me to personally review such games as these. So... I did my best. It wasn't great, but I did my best. :-)

me too, i am terrible at any sports or racing game and well, i just dont see the appeal in them, so if i were to review them, any score given would probably be a 1-3 even if they are truely fun for those who love such games.

I do not like sports games at all(except for the ones featuring Mario) and I know almost nothing about real sports(as they bore me to death) so I would be absolutely terrible for reviewing stuff like Madden and NHL. I remember Tommy Tallarico somehow ended up reviewing RPGs(which he doesn't like) and giving them negative ratings.

As an indie, do you have to do games that don't gel with you? I don't recall which gaming mag it was but one reviewer expressly didn't like JRPGs (pointedly saying so every time) but was always the one they pulled to review them. I assumed they were going for a "it even made this guy like it" but all I got out of it was "an unspecified percentage of whatever he doesn't like about it may be what JRPG people like about them."
