Game Dev Diary #6

Tutorial hell has ended, at least in it's current form! This time it was a platformer starring Amber. She looks adorable in sprite form.


This one was exceptionally fun and I feel like I got a good handle on the ins and outs of coding in GameMaker while doing it. I even doodled my own background for her to run around in.


With this last bit of info I've begun making a technical demo for my non-tutorial game. Putting together all of the systems that I plan on using in a package to verify that it all works. Once I have this put together I'll be working on a playable demo which I'll release for free to you all to try out. That last bit could take a while so bare with me!


My current idea is to integrate these playstyles together in a fun short adventure. Current ideal game length is about an hour long. That way I don't put too much in and spend too much time making one thing, y'know. And just in case you didn't know my first game will be 100% free to everyone so please be excited.


To those of you that have continued supporting me as I work hard to make my game, you have my total gratitude. I'll continue getting out two art posts a month as the future ticks on. I completely understand if you don't really care about the game stuff and the two monthly posts isn't worth it to you anymore and the support dries up. But this is just something I have to do, it makes me happy and keeps me from feeling like I'm slipping into routine.


I look forward to updating you all again soon. I slipped back into playing the new Rimworld DLC so I've been goofing off in that for a few days but I'll be back with my nose to the grindstone soon.
