Introducing Morvold Scenes!

Scene by Ken Boledo, Portrait/Token by HIIDRA Studios.

Hey guys!

So, I'm always on the lookout for ideas on ways to provide you with more resources and ways to improve the level of immersion for your games. This month marks the beginning of a new offering called Morvold Scenes.

What is a Morvold Scene?

Sometimes the party wants to travel to a specific location (i.e. merchant, town council, mage tower, barracks, tavern, etc...), but you don't really need a map. There's no combat encounter and while it would be immersive to walk around the map, sometimes that can be a distraction to simply having the conversation, HOWEVER, you would like to be able to have a setting presented to your players so they can see where they are, the person they're speaking with and have SOME level of immersion.

The common trait behind the Morvold Scenes will be a design that favors being able to place an NPC portrait/token somewhere that masks the lower half, allowing them to seem as if they are present in the location without being a strange, floating head.

The first scene is the General Store, which would come as a simple JPG image upon which you could overlay any NPC token(s) you wished:

My current plan is to try and create at least one of these scenes per month for you guys, and expand on that offering if I can maintain the same art style and quality.

Patron Exclusive

I'm making this scene available to everyone (Free & Paid members), but in the future, these scenes will be an exclusive benefit for Tier 1+ members.

Other scenes on my short list would be:

Blacksmith

Wizard's Shop/Office

Tavern

Guard Barracks/Training Yard

Quest Board

Council Chamber

If you have ideas of scenes you would love to have, let me know in the comments below!

As always, I hope you enjoy it and it can help improve your games! =)

Yeah, that's kind of the idea -- that you don't ALWAYS need a map, or to return to a map, but you still want to set the scene and get people oriented visually on where they are and maybe who they're talking to -- a DM I played with did this a lot, and it was very helpful to have a scene with an NPC token to keep us immersed and focused, even when doing theater of the mind for actions within the space.

This is very good, great work. It would be cool to have these scenes as an introduction to the battle maps or cities. It would give an overview of what the place is like and would also give options for masters who use the theater of the mind. Keep up the great work, congratulations.

Great idea! Other scenes might be druid grove, docks, alleyway and a generalist stores shop.

YES! I'm always ravenous for more scene creators! I'm subbed to Czepeku Scenes and JamesRPGArt etc, but I'm surprised this kind of content isn't more common. I get a LOT of mileage out of it!! VERY excited to get this kind of stuff from you too ♡ I'm mostly a lurker, but I would be remiss to not mention while I'm here that I think you using your Patreon funds to commission human artists regularly (in a world where GenAI is getting SO depressing for us human artists) is amazing and beautiful and 100% why you earned my subscription, so can't wait to see more of these new scenes!!
