Basically, the Hugenot family and its faction supports the Royal Family (King, Queen & the two princesses). The Royal Family retains control over the Kingdom but the Hugenots fled the kingdom after the Arbor family gained significant power in the noble courts. So while the King rules the country officially, the true power is the hands of the Arbor family.
