what are you talking about they literally did that at the end of arifureta they even ended up hopping worlds cus they got back through their own efforts.

She was saying she was conscious but watching while the game was going like a cutscene, then the death game happened which was when the players got locked in the game and couldn't log out before Shin beat the boss and that's when the NPC's started getting more aware but still not fully in control, then post death game was the 500 years when Shin was gone that Schnee was a real person no more NPC, and now he is alive in the game with her.
