VIKTORIA IN THE MUSEUM
When you have a Ukrainian model nude in a cornfield in Switzerland, you really have to slap yourself to realize it isn’t a dream. Four years ago I was working a deep frier, covered in grease, draping with strung out customers who would destroy the bathroom and leave it for me to clean up. Life seemed hopeless and directionless. But I still was shooting, pursing my passion, and hoping. My direction, as Steve Martin would say, was “more plodding than heroic,” and I tried to just move incrementally forward as time ticked by.
But this summer, now working an office job, debt free, I was in Europe, showing my mom and Aunt the world, literally, and taking these photos of the great Viktoria. I’m not bragging, I type all of this as a thank you. Thank you to each and every person reading this. Thank you for your support, both financial and spiritual. I am a better person for you all being in my life and knowing my work.
The start of this year was a complicated one, and I was filled with a modest amount of hope, even if I didn’t have much reason to be. And then I found love. Really, genuine, sincere love that is not complicated or selfish. And now I see the world with fresh and hopeful eyes. I’m in a good place, a great place, my mindset is clear and my vision is true. I’m not sure where things are headed, but for once I know I’m going in the right direction.
