ONE MORE MINUTE
Cold mornings are the worst to wake up on. The air has a bite to it, and all you crave is to stay under those warm covers and be safe. But life beckons, there is work to finish and unending chores to accomplish, so you force yourself up, sheets off, feet flat on that chilly tile floor.
You sit up for a moment trying to focus, wiping the sleep from your eyes, yawning to try to catch your first breaths. There is very little sound, just your thoughts rattling around in your brain of the things you forgot to do yesterday or deliberately pushed to today. The warm comfort of the shower is only several feet away, but it feels like a trek of epic proportions, and the warmth under your legs of the still warm bed reminds you of what you’ll be walking away from.
But the time for thought is over and you decide it’s time. You stand up, give one long, last stretch, and as you are about to step away, you feel her grasp your hand. She’s now moaning awake, revealing that she’s been watching you the last several minutes, and when your eyes meet she gives you her patented smile that made you ask for her phone number all those months ago. Your thumb caresses the outside of her hand, and as you try to pull away, she clutches your hand tighter and simply whispers “One more minute…”
