When Test Shoots Go Right IV, Pt. 3

My corporate office job doesn’t really offer much benefit, apart from a low hourly wage and minimum health coverage. A young female coworker who knows about my photography is always saying “I met the most beautiful girl this weekend and told her to contact you for photos!” This statement has been uttered many times and had never panned out well. Usually the girl was either 14 or 35, no in-between, nor were they ever even remotely model material.

But finally, I have to give my coworker credit, she finally came through. Nadia, a 22 year old Mexican woman who just moved here from Mexicali, is studying digital marketing and seems to have a very good head on her shoulders. My coworker had interviewed her for another job, and when Nadia mentioned an interest in modeling, my Instagram info was given to her. Nadia contacted me shortly after. 

I have gotten in the habit or shining on most Instagram girls who contact me out of the blue. They rarely are what I look for in models, and rarely are open-minded enough to handle even the artistic nudes I shoot, thinking that showing their bare back is pushing the boundaries. But Nadia was different. She was beautiful, very polite and professional in her message, and just came off as different, overall in the message she wrote me. “Sure, I thought reluctantly, “I’ll give this one a chance.”

Nadia came over on a Sunday afternoon looking adorable, smiley, and fairly open to anything. Though she said she’d feel comfortable with nudes, she said she recently became a temporary citizen by joining into a civil union with her boyfriend, only out of fear of Trump. “I’m not sure the relationship will last forever, but for now, I don’t want to be disrespectful to him by being nude. But if and when we break up, you’ll be the first person I call!” she said laughing at herself.

But she was open to showing plenty of skin, showing off her large, natural smile and answering all my usual personal questions openly and freely. I challenged her a few times when she confessed, “Y’know, I’m not sure…” and then paused to think deeply on the question, eventually giving me an honest and sometimes surprising answer to both me and her.

She mentioned she had modeled briefly for some photographers back in Mexico, but not anyone "as well-known as you!" I laughed out loud, especially since she was sitting on my bed in my small apartment. I'm hardly well-known," I muttered, but she insisted in her eyes I was some sort of celebrity, that made me both cringe and blush, never believing such nonsense.

We ended up talking for almost two hours, only actually shooting for about a quarter of that time. The rest of it was spent with her topless on my bed as we compared notes, me asking her about moving to America, her thoughts on the current political climate, and more. I’m not sure if or when she might model for me again, but I think she has some really great potential.
