Why did you join the Javelin program?

Why did I want to settle a new planet, further from Earth than any human has ever gone? Are you kidding? That’s a – well, not even a once in a lifetime opportunity; it’s a once in the-history-or-the-planet-so-far opportunity! Anything could be out there!

What attracted you to Adin?

He’s a nice kid. Thought I’d help him out. The captain was too harsh on him; he can clearly do his job while on drugs, so if he wants to ruin his own life, that’s his call, isn’t it? Also, he’s very cute.

What are your thoughts on the Texan prison system?

I’m a scientist, not a criminal justice lawyer. I can tell you about the DNA of the crew, but I don’t know shit about the laws that brought them here.

What do you think your legacy is going to be on Hylara?

At this stage it’s probably going to be ‘scientist who figured out the details of the telomerase genetic engineering and stopped half of her crew and a quarter of the colonists from dying of super-cancer’. I’m not convinced that this experimental gene therapy they dumped on this ship is consequence-free.

What's your worst fear?

I’m not generally a fearful person, but ‘getting murdered by the murderer’ is up there right now. Also, dying in space because something on this wreck of a spaceship broke and we got sucked out into the void. I have nightmares about that.

What's your biggest priority in life?

Once you’re on a spaceship heading out to colonise distant exoplanets, other priorities fall to the wayside. The success of this mission is paramount. And my job is dealing with the ridiculous biological puzzles involved.

How do you deal with the rest of the ship hating you?

They don’t hate me, they’re scared of the fucking murderer in our midst and even more scared that it might be one of their friends and displacing their anger. They’ll forget the issue once we’ve found the real criminal here.
