The legend of the Archangel Michael.

It concerns one amazing legend — the story of the Archangel Michael.

According to legend, the archangel appeared in a cave under Mount Gargano (in the Puglia region, Italy, near the former city of Sorrento) to indicate the place where the church should be built. Today, the famous Sanctuary of St. Michael the Archangel stands on this site.

✨ More specifically, legend has it that in 490, a local farmer, while tending a herd on Mount Gargano, lost his best bull. After a long search, he found the bull kneeling at the entrance of the cave. Despite attempts to lure him out, the bull didn't move. Then the peasant shot an arrow at him — but it miraculously came back.

It was at this moment that the Archangel Michael appeared in the cave and ordered to build a temple on this site. This is how one of the most revered places of pilgrimage in Europe appeared.

📜Variations of this story can be found in various sources, but the essence is the same: the archangel indicated the cave as a sacred place.

Она касается одной удивительной легенды — истории об архангеле Михаиле.

Согласно преданию, архангел явился в пещере под горой Гаргано (в регионе Пулья, Италия, вблизи бывшего города Сорренто), чтобы указать место, где должна быть построена церковь. Сегодня на этом месте возвышается знаменитое Святилище Святого Михаила Архангела.

✨ Более конкретно, легенда гласит, что в 490 году местный крестьянин, пася стадо на горе Гаргано, потерял своего лучшего быка. После долгих поисков он обнаружил быка коленопреклонённым у входа в пещеру. Несмотря на попытки выманить его, бык не двигался. Тогда крестьянин пустил в него стрелу — но она чудесным образом вернулась обратно.

Именно в этот момент архангел Михаил явился в пещере и повелел построить на этом месте храм. Так и появилось одно из самых почитаемых мест паломничества в Европе.
