Morgan did snap in the moment, and kill Richard - both to avenge Benjamin, but also to begin carrying out the very plan Richard had earlier explained because he knew Richard was right. They had to act and couldn’t wait anymore. It sent a clear message that the Kingdom “gets it.” Without any doubt. That the Kingdom will keep its own people in line, and there is no doubt they are playing along with the Saviors. Morgan’s actions appeared to demonstrate that. Except, of course, unbeknownst to the Ssviors, the Kingdom and everyone is prepping for all out war. Arguably, if Morgan had not killed Richard, there might have been doubt left in the Saviors’ minds that the Kingdom didn’t actually get it and there was resistance within the ranks.
