You really have to look at the entirety of the story being told this season thus far, in terms of “mercy vs wrath” — Jesus wanting to offer mercy versus Tara; Maggie wanting to kill them all but the reluctantly allowing the Saviors to remain jailed; Michonne/Daryl/Rosita impatience messing up the Sanctuary plan; Carol and Morgan and Ezekiel wrestling with all that and how it changes young Henry (mirroring Carl’s prison kill); and now Rick & Michonne embracing mercy at Carl’s deathbed. And really, how Negan’s whole “People are a resource” and “only killing the right people at the right time” mantras…. It’s not too different in many ways, especially with how we’ve seen Simon to date talk about widespread killing versus Negan’s more limited brutality. Really, the overall big theme of S8’s All Out War” arc.

It’s crazy knowing Carl didn’t want Michonne with them back when she first met the group but easily grew to like her and was one of the first people to voice that he felt she could be one of them which shocked Rick, those 2 we’re truly best friends 🙏🏽

Ah yes the symbolic big cat bar, that’s a call back between Michonne and Carl because back in season 4 when she and Carl made a bet about who could walk on the train track rails the longest the winner got to choose which candy bar they wanted and Carl wanted her Big Cat candy bar but it was Michonne’s favorite so he broke it in half and told her “Come on, we always share” those 2 really were best friends, and this is what I was trying to tell y’all about early on about how Carl was suffering from a lot of things that happened in the past, about how how each character portrays their trauma differently, I always had a feeling Carl was going to bring up that moment about the kid he killed back at the prison but I just didn’t expect him having to die to finally hear him say something, also in the last episode, episode 8 everyone knew about Carl once they got into the sewer and Rosita couldn’t even look at Michonne and Rick, Tara looked at Rick like she wanted to say something but didn’t know what to say, Daryl didn’t say a word just made sure Judith was okay and knew this wasn’t a moment to say something

This episode changed the show forever. Carl was the future. going forward it feels empty without him. In the comics, he is the main character along with Rick and outlives everybody. The book starts with Rick and ends with Carl. The Walking Dead is a Grimes story..
