So excited for this one! I hope the brothers were given trigger warnings about this series beforehand though - I went in blind when I first watched the series in 2018 and I was in a dark place for a bit (which I had some trouble getting out of), so I hope they already have an idea with what to expect for this show.

It's actually based on a manga from the 80s lol. Also, yeah there are a lot of uncomfortable situations but I think it's handled very well for the most part. Anyways, Banana Fish is one of my favorite shows so I can't wait to see more of your reactions to it!

*bumps show from to-watch list to watching* Hard to find this show, but the suggestions that came up when I searched the anime sites that didn’t have it make me very intrigued. I also thought this was one that came out back in the 80s 😆

This is an adaptation of an older manga, published in 1985-1994. The war zone where we first saw Griff was originally Vietnam War, in this adaptation it's Iraq War. There are some slight differences with the original manga/ and the modern anime adaptation, smartphones etc, but the storyline is the same. Also this the reason for the character design and explains why this looks a bit like older 80s anime series. Personally I love Mappa's decision to be so loyal to the original manga artstyle, and of course because this is Mappa, the animation is oh so crisp👌

Banana Fish definitely does have some moments that are uncomfortable and hard to watch for some viewers. It's a really old series with the Manga being from the 1980's, a good old classic. I like to think it handles the darker scenes well. It's definitely not light hearted but what a ride it is

Banana fish is such a good show. I love that the genre is more action but they also include bl romance in it. Usually when it’s an action show or when the main character is a spy/part of the mafia, the love interest is usually a girl but I love that they made the love interest a guy🙌
