From The Mistress
This business is entirely privately held by me. Energy markets are growing year over year and the demand for Neon Dark is higher than ever.
Extracting is dangerous on its own but the conflict over viable territory ads to the pressure.
Getting Neon Dark off the Island into the markets is always challenging.
The conflict will stop when a single company comes to control the island however its reasonable to assume that this will never happen.
Even though my company, Black Faction is in the best position with regards of numbers and resources to actually carry this out, the cost in resources as in, the sheer number of women we would lose would actually make us weaker to the point a new company would come in.
This is the reason we have always been locked in a sort of mutual conflict, a tit for tat over parts of the island, not the whole island.
The sugar device has given insights into the potential implications in other fragments. One where V-Corp, CPD, Zuvic and KTS managed to actually completely wipe out Black Faction with massive skirms. Skirms like you would not believe, costing tens of thousands on all sides only resulted in fighting between V-Corp, CPD, Zuvic and KTS.
The young women I put in charge don't agree or don't understand.
They're products of the machine, former combatants. Lani, Phaedra and even Vanessa, all operate on absolutes. Expend or be expended.
Its important to come from a position of strength, always. Sacrificing thousands only to be weaker is not coming from a position of strength.
Foster the currency for power here, bodies in uniforms.
In my case, the Standard.
They are hard currency, invest in their creation and expend where necessary for maximum return. But dont expend them all.
Close associates have said to me things along the lines of "why do you treat them like they are not human"
They are human, but what sort of human wants to kill for money? Its how we get things done here lets not beat around the bush Mary.
They're told what their role is, what they will do, how they will do it.
They're also told what can happen to them.
We're not going out kidnapping people, they are coming to us. They apply, take tests and sign their lives over to us for 4 years.
The money is a big driver, many really believe in what we are doing here.
I may not be forthcoming about the conflict never ending....ever but its why they join.
If there was no conflict there would be quite a few tens of thousands here.
But again. Money.
Thousands leave Black Faction back to their lives practically millionaires. Some of them after 2,3 or 4 contracts live in luxury now. No where on earth are they getting this sort of money.
They get told this, they also get shown footage of Azologoth extractions and combat footage too before they join.
Plenty walk out after that. But a big hunk stay. They want to roll the dice of fortune.
If they find themselves wrapped up being dragged into a Azologoth or shot up in a skirm then it was fate. No discrimination, they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time or they weren't skilled enough not to be expended.
They have a gun in their hand too.
I watch most of the skirms that are captured on video. Many don't know I do that. But I do like to see my workers, working.
When they win a skirm you can see they are proud.
I love that.
