Unfortunately this bullying still happens. This is coming from someone in Australia, but I assume its a similar case where you are. I'm out of school now, but my neighbours still go to the high school I went to, where since I've left they've created queer friendly groups and have gender neutral bathrooms available. All the teachers are very inclusive and open. Yet my neighbour, who is 14 and has no idea what his sexuality is, gets called the f slur and 'disgusting' and 'ugly' by the girls in his year. Never underestimate the nastiness of snobby young teens.

Heck people can be awful but high school in particular can still be a brutal place. The actor who plays Ben talks about a group of kids who kept adding him to a group chat that was set up specifically to make fun of him. People suck.
