THE RISE OF BANGTAN | Chapter 07 | REACTION

Another great episode of ROBT!

THE RISE OF BANGTAN | Chapter 07 | REACTION

Comments

Hobi started using the phrase waaaay before the made the song :) He used it to to thank the staff in Japan. Eventually the rest of the members started using it as well and then Hobi wrote the song. Yoongi said by the time he joined, the song was basically already made... and the rest is history :D

He really really does. That's something I've thought about a lot. More often then not those with very high IQ seem to have an air of arrogance or superiority, they value knowledge but can seem emotionally stunted or lacking empathy even. There are people who aren't considered "intelligent" because they don't have the IQ numbers but emotionally are extremely advanced. They are very empathetic and are conscious of others feelings around them, usually very patient. It is rare to have both and I certainly agree he is one of those rare people.

I also hate the hidden camera pranks. I skip them every time.

So I know I’m super late but I’ve had company and just now got to watch your reaction. The part where BH was salty over camera work was totally justified. I went back and watched the performance from I wanna say kbs 2014 end of the year show. I’m not 100% on that but literally every time a good part came up in the dance it panned wide to the audience. It was the worst camera work I’ve ever seen, worse than US shows. So they got petty and gave use 3 versions of better camera work. I personally love the dance. It’s not my go to type of music but it shows their range. And it deserved better.

We all know Namjoon has such a high IQ score but I guess his EQ is just as high. And that is rare.

Yes I agree it was a lot of antis going after them for the song, I do think how they grew from that experience ultimately changed things for the better. They started using more gender neutral language in their songs later on and I really think RM's approach of stepping back reflecting while asking women's studies professors for guidance was a very mature move. He didn't laugh it off or protest he did nothing wrong even if that might've of been the case. He genuinely wanted to know as a man if he unconsciously was saying things that were hurtful or offensive towards women especially fans. And they made some great songs after the experience like 21st Century Girl and Boy with Luv etc.

roguechevelle

They said in their book that they now have mandatory gender sensitivity lessons at HYBE bc of BTS & Namjoon consulted w a women’s studies professor over his lyrics after WOH. I never found a problem w the lyrics & I honestly think a lot of the “criticism” they got was just hate but I at least appreciate how they handled it

10+3=13 lots of countries use what you call in the US Military time, 13:00 a Clock is 1 a Clock.

AstronautInTHEboX

Fans of other groups attacked BTS incessantly. Antis trended against War of Hormones, against Hobi. “Fans” are not army, it was just antis. This is an ongoing theme in the story of Bangtan.

RachyOT7

Omg Austin. Now you're definitely a veteran army. The fact that you recognised the exact line the members clown Tae for in Jump. Yes that is the one. Well done. As for Otsukare. Jin was singing it in 2015 because that's what the boys used to say to staff in Japanese concerts and they didn't make it an official sing till 2017

Farhana

War of Hormones is a concept : what the hormones do in the head and body of the boys. I never really saw a big problem with that since the title explained what we will listen to.

Ailaudy93

At the Suga teddy bear scene, it says “wuaaang” (i guess like wow?) I don’t speak korean but taught myself the writing system 😅 Also, on a clock 10 + 3 = 1 because the 24 hour time has 13:00 as 1pm! I love RM (the mixtape) a lot, actually. It’s my least favourite out of the rappers solo projects, but that’s just because the others are so amazing - it’s still very very good and worth listening to! He was very vulnerable and personal in some of the songs, I think he took bang pd’s advice at the start of the episode to heart.

I'm on the side of War of Hormone was wronged. It's a banger and it makes me sad that it stopped being performed. I'm not a fan of other ppl telling Bangtan what their own songs r about. I get why they at the time took a step back but I think at this point and when they come back they can take that power back. I'm also not a fan of pranks, they have potential to go so wrong and they only really benefit the prankster not the prankee. Finally, as a 2020 ARMY so someone who sometimes is missing context but I try my best in my opinion the reason that Bangtan can maybe get away w/ more in the sense of cursing and calling out some social issues is because they've always kinda been outsiders. The rules really only apply to them when they're challenging the established system, and that system is trying to box them in. My opinion 🤷🏻‍♀️

Bea

And as an older army, yes we need a war of hormone pt. 2 LMAO

Nick

I could be wrong, but I think the reactor's voice at the end is bris x life

Nick

Your randomness of getting on an IQ test website is how I end up on websites looking up stuff when my ADHD brain aka Bob decides to not work lol.

I'm the same way Austin I don't like pranks it's uncomfy to watch I always feel really bad for them. The tv program was called "4 Things Show" by "Mnet". I'll be honest I'm not a fan of Mnet's style of tv shows a lot of times cuz the prank thing also happened in American Hustle life and I think it was the tv show producers coming up with these kinds of things but I could be wrong. Anyway it's a whole episode kinda documentary on Rap Monster which aired in April 2014. I'm so glad they got to the point where big hit could hire a crew to do Run BTS! the first episode airing August 2015 and started branching out doing more of their own shows like Bon Voyage etc. When your working with tv stations you don't have much control over the concepts and editing etc even if they have good intentions it might not be the style you like or up to your standards etc. But back then they were very small and had to take opportunities as they came in some cases. I love that Bang Pd could share his thoughts with RM in a constructive way but ultimately let RM do what he wanted. If something didn't work out the guys learned from it and continued to grow from the experience. He also was very right when he talked about that he worried about RM and Suga needing to say things, I think it was extremely important for their growth as artists to be able to fully express themselves through their mixtapes. It was very cathartic and needed. It was also important that they be able to fully express themselves without the typical restraint idols generally have. Even though the guys had been expressing themselves more openly then alot of idols were allowed to do by their companies there is still a big societal pressure in Korea to be a certain way so releasing something as a solo work like a free mixtape on soundcloud was good way for the rappers to speak their minds and see how it's received by fans etc.

roguechevelle

Otsukare wasn't out yet here but it was during this japanese tour in 2015 that Hobi made the melody for fun and would thank the staff by singing it, it was so catchy that the members began singing it too throughout the tour. Later Yoongi thought it might be fun if he and Hobi could turn it into an actual song and in 2016, they performed it together in a fanmeeting. And yes, it's an original song.

Laundry tips: Wash the t-shirt inside out on cold to have it last longer. Yes, the first version of the army bomb had beads inside that rattled. They sang the word Otsukare casually on stage and backstage for years before they made it into a legit song. So, the performance and recording came later, but you can hear the beginnings of Otsukare in mostly all of their japanese content before that. Basically, the evolution was Hobi started saying "Otsukare-sama deshita" to a little tune, being cute, and eventually Suga, being Suga, was like "We can make a song out of that" and the Otsukare we know and love was born. 10(pm)+3(hours) = 1(am). I also agree with you that IQ tests aren't an accurate measure, and I say that because I freeze up in timed testing environments and my brain will literally just start going "lalalala" instead of being able to do things like read or comprehend. Suho was a guest on one episode of the show. The guy in the middle you recognized does a LOT of variety shows. I don't know his name though. The first Eat Jins were just him eating with a soundtrack overtop. Once he started doing them on vlive, he started explaining what he was eating. Loved the reaction as usual! I think you'd probably like RM's first mixtape more than people think - he does swear a lot more in it, and it's over other people's beats, but it's still RM, so it's well thought out.

(Commenting this at the moment, so maybe you already mention some of this by the end of the vid) Yeah, for War of Hormone, many of us think it was more satirical. Calling out how some teenage boys are, but not that BTS necessarily behave/think that way. Some of it IS pretty typical of teenage boys. Doolset Lyrics translated the equation line as: "The girls are equations, and us guys are solutions (Yup)", and I've seen other translators have it be similar, so not at all how the guy in the vid said it was. Doolset did also add at the top of the lyrics "Note: The lyrics of this song were deemed misogynistic for objectifying women. BTS’ agency released a statement to apologize for past mistakes and to promise to learn more"

'Otsukare sama deshita' is just a very popular phrase to use in japan. I don't know if the melody Jin used was from something existing before and J-hope and Suga later used it in their song tho. Jin clip is from 2014/15. SOPE's otsukare performance is from 2016.
