I agree that it follows the book more faithfully than other Dracula films. However, it differs profoundly in regard to Dracula's relationship to Mina. In the book Mina had no connection to Dracula in a past life. I never liked that divergence from the book, as it wasn't necessary. But, other than that I thought the film was well done.

2022-10-28 12:16:16 +0000 UTCI read the book when I was 12. I didn't really understand it then, but I think the movie does a good job of following it closely. "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" is one I recommend for Spooktober, too. I read that book in high school and it also does a very good job of following the book albeit with a couple of minor changes. The funny thing about this movie is the reaction most men have when Jonathan is, um, visited by Dracula's brides. I remember watching this with some people and someone was like, "What about Mina?" At that point, I don't think Jonathan was thinking about Mina or anything else for that matter. LOL But you could say the same thing for Mina, too, when she lays eyes on Vlad. In their defense, their relationship was a love story based on past lives, however twisted the love might have been. The cast is superb in this. Everyone shines especially the two leads, Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder. I love the music, too, especially the theme song, "Vampire Hunters". I used to have it playing for my outgoing voice mail message. ;-) Years ago, I had the soundtrack. Great score.
