Rick was the one who started the final shootout with the governor. He started provoking the governor’s people and basically forced the Governor to do something about it. Then Hershel died and everyone scattered around. If they just left the prison they would have all survived and they would be together. The governor had 2 hostages and a tank locked in. You can’t just try to defend the prison at this point. Is he really the mvp for the season?

Plus he changed ricks perspective on being able to come back from that line. Which in turn helped carl aswell. Also i think rick was replaying that flashback/reminding himself of that. Rick realized that things couldn’t always be the way they were when he was farming with Carl. Sooner or later things are going to get bad and he can’t hide his son from those things. He can’t hide his son from how the world is today but this episode shows how far he’s willing to go to protect not only his son but the people in his group who he considers family. Rick will do anything to keep the people he cares about safe from the world. I love the conversation Daryl and Rick had with Rick saying “You’re my brother.” If you think about it, that’s what they both wanted. Daryl wanted that from Merle and Rick wanted that from Shane. They didn’t get it but found it with each other. Bearded Rick is a force to be reckoned with, I can’t wait for you guys to see!

Daryl would be an honorable mention because he showed up and stopped the claimers from killing them and it gave Rick an opportunity to fight back. This season as a whole has been amazing. It's hard to pick 1 MVP for the season but I'm gonna give it to Daryl. He has come in clutch sooo many times during this season. Honorable mention would be Rick for 2nd half of season and Hershel for the 1st half. I am so stocked and ready to watch season 5 with you guys.
