The Walking Dead (Season 4 - Episode 14)

Comments

What a great comment!

Lindinha

I know it might be a bit late, but after rewatching this episode once again, I felt compelled to finally share my thoughts. This episode is a 100 out of 10! Not only did it resolve many of the lingering plot points from the first half of season 4, but it also brilliantly portrayed how two young children can experience the new world in completely different emotional and psychological ways. In fact, through them, we’re shown two distinct approaches to understanding life, death, good, and evil. I also really appreciated the artistic choices and symbolism: the deer as a symbol of innocence, and the black and white smoke as symbols of destruction and closure. Here’s how I interpreted it: when Mika saw the black smoke, she correctly explained to Carol that it meant the fire was still burning, and that when the smoke turns white, it means the flames have gone out. Later, Lizzie saw the white smoke — not having heard the explanation from the sister she had killed — and mistakenly assumed something was burning. This contrast highlights the difference between them: Mika saw the world clearly and could recognize danger, while Lizzie lived in a distorted reality where the line between life and death had vanished. And that’s what truly amazes me — did the writers really think all of this through so deeply, or do such powerful metaphors emerge on their own when a script is written sincerely and with respect for the audience? In any case, the scene with the smoke — like the entire episode — works on multiple levels at once, and that’s exactly why I value it so highly.

Silichshev Danila

Why would you spoil stuff for them by mentioning a character from a season they haven't gotten to yet.

JokerDanny

I’m starting to wonder now if maybe Lizzie could “hear” their trapped spirits, kind of like Siddiq. Siddiq told Carl in season 8 that him and his mom believed that the walker’s spirits were trapped, and that by killing them their souls would finally move on and go where they’re supposed to go when someone dies. Maybe Lizzie believed the same thing, and maybe she believed she could hear their spirits inside of the walkers (“I can hear them”), but instead of killing them she tried to help them. Being able to “hear” them could just be severe psychosis, but she probably believed their old selves were still in there too, like Hershel when he thought that they were just sick and not actually dead.

khaotictrash

That fire that Mika saw was the house that Beth and Daryl lit on fire.

Kai Hopkins

Lizzy needed professional help the poor child...but the apocalypse cared not.

Johnny_Raincloud

Vince's face when Carol killed Lizzy looked like his stomach was in a knot... I know cause that's exactly how I felt when I watched this episode! Couldn't eat for a wholeee day

Hector Avila

Y’all forgot about Maggie and Beth when mentioning siblings lol

Aarron Denton

Andrea’s sister was Amy.

Aarron Denton

Mannnnn if I would’ve yelled at my mom like that she would’ve slapped the mess outta me😂😂

Angel Garcia

MIKKAAAA NOOOOOOOOOOO

TokyoLopez

I remember Watching this Episode for the First Time… it was a Hard one…

CYRAX

MVP this ep, Lizzie hands down🤣🤣💀

brayloom

The child needs to be institutionalized. There's no institution in a zombie apocolypse. No therapists, no medications, no support. Lizzie was a perfect example of someone with severe mental illness in a zombie apocolypse. More specifically, a child with severe mental illness in a zombie apocolypse. Lizzie & Mika's story is very tragic...

Ash Lee Can

Vince's non verbal communications are hilarious 🤣

Morgo

This episode is literally peak television, the acting is phenomenal, especially Melissa McBride (Carrol) and Brighton Sharbino (Lizzie), they killed their roles in this episode.

JD Nixon

Lizzie was not a sociopath, she is schizophrenic which is very unfortunate for an apocalyptic scenario, no medication or anything to help.

Ethan

your in for it with this show guys

Chase

Early reminder that there are post-credit scenes in Season 5 (episodes 1, 8 and 16)!

V. Hammer

💀

Miguel

One of the best episodes of TWD imo, I remember the first time seeing this episode just being so shocked, I'd hardly ever seen an episode of television THAT well written

tcubed1206

a few things you didn't mention (or may have missed due to talking while watching) i don't know if it was ever confirmed but i always assumed the fire in the distance was from daryl and beth's cabin they burned down, and the burnt walkers were the ones we saw at the end of that episode as they were attracted to the flames. the other thing: i don't know if you heard mica earlier in the episode, but when her and carol were walking together just before seeing the deer, mica explained that if the smoke is black the fire is still going, and will turn white once it's out; carol didn't know this. then when carol was with lizzie at the end of the episode, lizzie says "the fire is still burning" to which carol says "it's out, the smoke is white". when lizzie says "you know everything, 'mam" you can see the pain on carol's face when she says "no, i don't". this was so heartbreaking and such good attention to detail and just makes the scene that much sadder.

Katie White

Big man move Tyrese forgiving Carol for what happened. Big dog 💪🏾🫡

Nathan Skye

19:58 I can't 😭💀

Tasin Baiju

Was waiting on yalls reaction for this one. This episode hit real hard when I first saw it. I expected somethin real bad to happen, but not THAT

Jah (jakwiq) (Jah Quick)

This show has some of the best episodes in tv history and this is one of them. There really wasn't any other choice. Tyreese had NO IDEA what to do at the end, he looked like he didn't even wanna walk near Lizzy. Judith on her stomach just like tryin to learn how to crawl the hell away. Carol telling Tyreese at the end and him forgiving her still brings me to tears.

ShamefulToaster

☺️✌️

Jaz

Beth and Maggie are sisters too

Reponent

Probably one of the darkest episodes in TWD! Can't wait for season 5!

jor

Such a dark episode hopefully the next one is sunshine and rainbows💀

Timmy Saxton

This show gets crazier and crazier. Makes for great television though.

Courtney

I remember after the episode aired and they had Melissa on the talking dead and she had a hard time, they had a long moment of silence.

Courtney

This episode is so hard to watch. They definitely know how to fake someone out and making them let their guard down and then the crap hits the fan. 💔😭

Courtney

Ever since Lizzie tried to suffocate Judith to death I’ve been waiting for her to catch one

Z

i kno

Trevor Wright

I remember when this episode first came out it was crazy.

Justin Jefferson

Lmao no

Bailey White

Tyrese is a good guy but every time he goes off to thump some walkers and leaves Judith alone i want to smack that man upside the head.

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

Everyone's gonna talk about Carol and rightfully so she went through a lot but I always felt so bad for Tyrese. For a while he was taking care of the girls and Judith by himself. Then he loses them and then he finds out that Carol killed Karen. Yet despite all that he found it within himself to forgive her and move forward.

Eric W.

Come on guys, Maggie and Beth, Tara and her sister haha

Grant Miller

I'm sure yall know by now but Maggie and Beth are sisters. Look at the 💐

Mark

maggie and beth are sisters!

Katelyn

charlie

Amazing reaction y’all, this episode is so crazy

Simon

This is the only episode I watched without Shashauna and Vince I’m new to this show too I watched it on Monday I said they are gonna GO CRAZY WITH THIS REACTION😭😭😭

Dreamville Paul2x

My heart absolutely broke for Carol when I first watched this ep. She had to lose even more daughters, and one at her own hands. Then to have to admit to Tyreese what she’d down to Karen…..she went through so much

Ronan

With all these episodes with the group separated this was the one I was waiting for y’all to see🤦🏽‍♂️crazy and sad episode

Shalin Carter

“That was the last time we had sisters” yall Beth and Maggie are sisters 🤣

Simon

THESE VIDEOS ARE LIKE CRACKKKK

Aray YIKAMACI

i hated Lizzie and couldn't care much about Micah, but this episode made me sob so bad. Poor Carol, 3 kids she lost.

alex

The wait between these episodes kill me haha

Bradders23

Season 4-6 is peak TWD

Alex_Skull123

very sad episode :(

Alex_Skull123

Y’all totally forgot about Maggie and Beth being sisters!

Sherry Bandito

Busy ass day, gonna watch this asap!

Simon

“They snatch any joy from you” yea seriously omg😭 this show is emotionally exhausting lmaoo

Abigail Lucille

crazy to think Lizzie is also the reason why the fence at the prison came down, all the rats made that situation bad

Bryan

poor carol man :(

mathias danielsen

I’m fairly certain I remember on “the talking dead” they told us the puzzle on the table was a portrait of Sophia. One more wonderful touch to this episode

Tyler Bard

Cant wait until they see her at terminus.

Andrew Jones

Did you guys forget that Maggie and Beth are sisters? I may have missed it but you named everyone but them lol

Ryan

So we get all types of walkers . Swamp walkers . Dirt walkers . An now we meet the burnt walkers. 😆

Tjbosslyfe

I think this show is basically a symbol of Homelessness. We see homeless people try an survive no food. no water , no medication. An they try an survive . Now take away our resources. An see how we survive. That's why I think the show is so relatable. It's about survival. An then throw in walkers . Cool characters. An you have a hit show .

Tjbosslyfe

This one of the episodes that sticks in my mind. Chilling words . Look at the flowers . Carol has the coldest trigger finger in walking dead . She do what she feels she has to do all ways. Carol character development is at a all time high .

Tjbosslyfe

Tyrese and Carol both get MVP for seeing the bigger picture. Carol has the biggest balls in the show. Telling Tyrese the truth . She didn't have to do that.

Tjbosslyfe

I love Carol but I'm at least flipping the table over. Exchanging some words . Then I can forgive her just being honest . 😏 😲

Tjbosslyfe

Damn in the original version of this episode, when Carol takes the shot, we see it from Ty’s POV at the window & you see Lizzie’s body drop, the impact of the scene is waaay less heavy when you don’t see that IMO, but regardless, the acting in this episode is top notch!

Jack's World

That’s kinda true but I still think they would love the flash a lot

Latyah Short

it truly is . it always got me cause i wouldnt be able to i just dont have it in me to kill her someone else would have to man

NorthhSZN

That’s one schizo lil girl sheeesh

Daryl's Dog

Tyrese is hands down in my top 5 of the entire show.

General

devistation is what this episode is . seing it aired was insane .

NorthhSZN

Beth and Maggie..family/sisters lol

Dave Canon

The fire they kept smelling? Probably the one set by Beth and Daryl 😁

Dave Canon

Most depressing episode in this series imo. Imagine the fear Mika had in her last moments knowing her sister was trying to murder her. Some people assume Lizzie was schizophrenic and that’s why she hears them speaking and that she can understand them. Amazing episode and acting by literally everyone. Tyreese is such a good guy for forgiving Carol , anyway amazing reaction, you guys were cracking me up with the facial expressions towards Lizzie’s psychotic behaviour.

JonSnow21

The acting. *chefs kiss*

Dave Canon

The actress playing the younger sister I think she the bad guy in 22 jump street movie ?

Tjbosslyfe

Yeah she’s amazing at acting insane lol

brayloom

brighton sharbino played lizzie well. great episode

LITOMARZ

You guys crack me up 😂best reactions ever!

Rylee

Well not within the show but within the fandom

Aramon

Amy was Andrea’s sister. Fun fact, the puzzle on the table in the house is a picture of Sophia. The viewer would never know because it was never even close to being finished, but they mentioned it on the Talking Dead after if I recall.

Michael

First, like everyone else said, Beth and Maggie are sisters, lol. This was one of the hardest episodes to watch and process. It is truly tragic. In an apocalyptic world there is no hope for Lizzy. Carol did what she had to do. She always does. She makes the tough decisions and follows through. She is definitely my MVP for this episode. I couldn't imagine having to do that. Honorable mention to Tyreese, forgiving Carol was HUGE! Love y'all's reaction. Can't wait for the next one!

Kristy Stevens

Carol is such a badass

Joshua Johnson

Tyreese is such a good guy. His "I forgive you" always gets a tear in my eye

Kwisatz Haderach

They snatch. Any joy from you 😂😂😂😂😂

KJ

I was waiting for you to remember Beth and Maggie being sisters 😆

Emma Green

My favourite run of episodes is coming upppp s4e16 to s5e3

Perfection Akinwande

She was the best kid in the show imo. She wasn’t annoying or crazy. Just sweet, smart and knew how to survive

Ella

Beth and Maggie erasure 😭😭😂

Perfection Akinwande

When Lizie was screaming "what if I killed you?!" I remember being so disturbed by this episode lol

PokeTheBear

Season finale and season 5 otw 🔥🔥🔥

Kevin Lauture

Not you guys forgetting Beth and Maggie are sisters 🤣

Ella

Look at the flowers you psycho

C. J. Ramirez

Never in a million years could they guess how this season ends

Adam Beiter

Judith MVP for surviving a Psycho twice!!!!😂😂

NukezZ

Double upload?

Trav

I hope Vince and Shoshana stay away from the comments to avoid spoilers. Some people just can't contain themselves lol

Greenave

Double upload tmr? ep 15 and the finale

Brandon wheatt

It’s so sad to think about. Lizzie needed a bucketful of anti-psychotics but they don’t have those in the apocalypse. And they couldn’t just leave her behind to fend for herself because she would have been ripped apart by walkers eventually. All they could really do was end things up quickly. Mercifully. This has gotta be the only show on the planet that can make you justify killing a mentally ill child

crazymisscarly

I forgot all about this episode, I get why she had to die. Like Vince said, they aren't psychiatrist, they tried to convince her and she was just too far gone after what she did to her sister.

Bob

Mika got set up. She deserved the chance to become a beast

Kwisatz Haderach

Tyreese is like the best. Forgiving carol like almost instantly after her telling him. And they were with each other a while before she said anything

NukezZ

This episode is one of the reasons why I love season 4 so much. This season is just so heavy compared to the rest. It really shows A LOT of different things that can go down during the zombie apocalypse that you normally wouldn't think to worry about, disease and lack of modern medicine, no psychiatric help for unstable individuals and so on on top of all the normal stuff like hostile groups and walkers. Simply horrifying!

dk

I was so shocked when I first saw that she was the one feeding those walkers at the prison 😂 crazy girl

Christopher Case

them forgetting about beth and maggie being sisters is making me cackle lmao

Mia

hope you both read this! the fire they saw with all the smoke not far from them was daryl and beth when they burnt the house down

Reseigh

i think the worst part of this episode is the fact that mikah would have 100% grown to be one of the strongest characters, she didn’t believe in herself but everytime she needed to step up she did.

i love you

Every thing after season 4 is trash

Cameron Christopher

Whoa flash season 1-4 are peak

Cameron Christopher

Prison break would be amazing

james moore

I still remember watching this when it aired. My wife and I were speechless. One of the very few episodes of any television show that fucked me up for a couple days after.

Nick

One of the darkest moments in the show

Kwisatz Haderach

Don’t forget about Maggie and Beth being sisters too lol then you have Carl and Judith, Tyrese and Sasha. 4 pairs of siblings…well 3 now lol

Christopher Case

One of the most depressing episodes of the show. Man. I cant believe yall forgot who set that fire though lol

james moore

Oh yeah this episode

Jihad Lee

Prison break yes, flash no. CW shows are just bad, season 1 and 2 are decent but its just too many fillers, bad writing etc, not to mention the crossovers

Kayleb Patel

Fun fact btw, killing animals for "fun" is an early sign of psychopathy. So if Lizzie had continued to grow up, she could have been a damn post apocalyptic serial killer

Bunnarchist

"the last time we had sisters" Beth and Maggie are sisters too lmao

Bunnarchist

Really?

Eli Pink

I renewed my subscription just to see this chapter! 😍

Iris quevedo luna

I’ve been WAITING for this episode

crazymisscarly

"This child need to be institutionalized" is exactly how you describe Lizzie 🤣

CodyG24

beth and maggie

i love you

Look at the flowers.. 😔

Bunnarchist

By the way that fire is the same one Daryl and Beth set Also keep what Carol said in mind "look at the Flowers" it became a meme within the show

Aramon

Hehehehe lets go

Adam Beiter

I forgot about lizzie saying she was about to do Judith as well😅😅😂

NukezZ

YESSSSS this episode is insanneee

Hugo Rodriguez

Yall should watch prison break or flash after the walking dead or after Alice in borderland

Cameron Christopher

I dropped everything I was doing to watch this episode 😂

Slasher

ooooo i’ve been WAITIN FOR THIS ONE

nubbychugs

I was just waiting for this!
