K-19: The Widowmaker is another submarine movie about Russia's first nuclear submarine which malfunctions on its maiden voyage, and the crew must race to save the ship and prevent a nuclear disaster. Harrison Ford, Liam Neeson.

Chryss Guiler

(Oh, real quick. This one ain’t an October movie, but if y’all ain’t seen “The Man From Snowy River”, you’ll love it! Carly too. I promise.) 😃

Steve

It took me a second to realize there was a person on the right of the What Lies Beneath thumbnail.(“Is there a person under there?”) lol It’s a shame about that popcorn pick. Better luck next time! 😃 I saw What Lies Beneath in theaters, cuz Mom was all like: “Harrison Ford’s in it. What could go wrong??” 🤨

Steve

Yes, it's self inflicted, but not by choice. The villain is a whack job.

Ignacio Lopez Jr

There's a ton of movies that aren't super scary or gorey. Ernest Scared Stupid, The Dark Night of the Scarecrow, Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice, Coraline, Addams Family, to name a few. SAW is extremely gorey and violent.

Ignacio Lopez Jr

No, I’m not, but are you?

Richard Maurer

I hereby nominate "A Perfect World" for the tender November poll.

bgb1975

So I’m seeing title after title of films that, much like Carly, I have NOO interest in watching. I’m hoping Cassie doesn’t need therapy by November.. 🤞

Steve

How about Casper for the not so scary scary

DreBone1986

You aren't wrong.

Scott Macaulay

I saw Terminator in theater during its first release, but not the first day. And yes, I’m older than dirt.

Richard Maurer

Does anyone remember a little movie called ‘The Terminator’? Apparently it was 40 years old yesterday! Release date: 26th October 1984. How old do I feel! 😱😆 Did anyone watch it on its release date?

Mark White

What Lies Beneath, with Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer, is an excellent choice of movie to watch. It's quite spooky. Also a really spooky movie, to add to your list, is Mama, staring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau from Game of Thrones and Jessica Chastain.

Stewart Menzies

Romance/Horror - Let the right one in 😁

Björn Karlsson

Indeed

V M

Yes, my post was.

Richard Maurer

Called a joke.

Hat

It will be out soon, wait your turn.

Richard Maurer

Star Trek - First Contact is a little scary.

Hat

Joe has a bias against old movies. But he’s a counter-balance to the people on here who have bias against new movies, who think no good movies have been made since the 90’s. Truth is every decade since the film making began has produced mostly average or below movies, a fair number of good ones, and a rare few great ones.

Richard Maurer

+1 for August Rush

Clarence Newman

Still the wildest theater experience I've ever had. I was 12 too. The hype and energy in the premiere scene in Scream 2 actually wasn't too far off.

Chris Thom

I never saw Marry Poppins Returns. Totally forgot that movie exists. Saving Mr. Banks was a good one.

Chris Thom

Clarence, I never even heard of “Meander.” Where can I find a copy to watch? I wanna check this out. PS: Never mind, found it on Tubi. The synopsis sounds a lot like “Cube.” I’ll be watching it very soon. Thanks for the heads up.

Just Plain Bob

Chris, I love “High Tension.” I actually got to see it in the theater (I used to live near a great theater that would frequently play foreign films, along with other lesser known movies). The name perfectly describes the feeling the movie engenders in its audience. For a long time, after it left theaters, it could only be found on dvd in Europe. Thankfully, they rectified that and I have a blu ray of the movie in my collection. It’s another movie I would include in my list.

Just Plain Bob

More suggestions for her this November. WE're not telling her either the plot. Ahem . ;)

Rene G.

There was a really creepy French horror movie called High Tension. Found that one to be genuinely scary if you've never seen it.

Chris Thom

Just like Kill Bill. And 300. And Starship Troopers. Truthfully she probably won’t like it, but you never know.

Richard Maurer

Chasing YT views is also how you get paid. YT is the engine that drives all of this. How many people were on her patreon before watching her on YT? Anyone? Whether or not Cassie loves doing this (I believe she does) if it gets to the point where she can no longer support her family she would have to end this.

Richard Maurer

I like "August Rush" (2007) (Music/Romance). Critics panned it but I liked it. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is cool in it. Kerri Russell is beautiful, as usual. Also has Robin Williams. Of course, the lead star is the kid Freddie Highmore -- who grew up to become The Good Doctor (and also starred in Bates Motel series).

Clay F

My son liked 9

Clay F

I don't think you're in the minority. I believe most horror fans love the SCREAM movies. I certainly do (for the most part).

Stick Figure Studios

You’re not. I love the movies too. While it’s safe to say Cassie won’t love them, I think she’d grow to the love the characters if she watched 2-6.

Luke Godfrey

I might be the minority but I love the Scream Franchise. I was 12 when the first one came out and I have good memories watching it for the first time at about 13. I've always had a lot of fun with them and have always thought that they were well done sequels, especially for horror movies which in general tend to have terrible sequels more often than not.

Katie Jackson

Bob. I'm out of my depth, but I can contribute one foreign horror film to the mix - A French movie called "Meander" from 2020. Captivating film, with very little dialogue so you don't get bogged down reading subtitles.

Clarence Newman

VAN HELSING is pretty bad, but it's campy fun (a guilty pleasure of mine). LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER is actually good.

Stick Figure Studios

@Joe - well we did have that one Classic Horror poll recently and while it wasn’t decade specific it did lean heavily on the 30’s @JP Bob - a lot of great stuff on your additions list. Like you said earlier, we could do 100 films easy.

Richard Maurer

Chris, one of the things that appeals to me about “Phantasm” is the fact that it plays out with a kind of dream/nightmare logic and the ultimate ambiguity about what you’ve just witnessed. It’s a perfect example of how the horror genre, more than any other, lends itself to personal tastes. I suspect that very few people in these forums have seen it and even fewer probably like it. I love it. Re: “When A Stranger Calls”, that opening twenty minutes scared the bejesus out of me when I first saw it. After that, it dragged. I later learned that it started as a short film, which is what that first twenty minutes is comprised of. They got studio financing based on the short and expanded it. I don’t think it would run afoul of Cassie’s rules because the offending material occurs entirely off screen. I wouldn’t include it for the simple reason that I think the movie, in its entirety, is “meh.”

Just Plain Bob

Clarence, more than any other genre, horror movie favorites are a matter of individual tastes. Some of the most popular horror movies of recent years don’t appeal to me in the slightest (“Hereditary” being a perfect example - I don’t find it even a little bit scary). Meanwhile, “Hell House LLC”, a modern film that it seems as though hardly anyone has watched, spooked me bad enough that I briefly considered looking under my bed before getting into it the night I saw the movie. My list is far from complete. I was compiling it off the top of my head and simply stopped when I saw that it had grown so large. “Creepshow” would absolutely have been on my list if I had taken my time, consulted my dvd/blu ray library, and been more systematic in my approach. Other films that would have been included are “Dog Soldiers”, “Drag Me To Hell”, “Frailty” and so, so many more. I would also include “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein”; I love that movie. If I expanded the list to include more obscure movies, including more international films (movies which only horror fans would be interested in, frankly), I’d include a few gialli (“Deep Red” and “Tenebre” spring to mind immediately) and some of the Asian horror of the early to mid-2000s, as well as a couple of more obscure Asian titles from the 80s (“Hiruko the Goblin” and “Hausu”). I’d also include some of the gorier Italian horror (Lucio Fulci’s “Zombi”, “The Beyond”, and “City of the Living Dead” are must sees for fans of the genre). It’s a very deep genre with a lot to offer for different tastes.

Just Plain Bob

@Mark: WARM BODIES

Stick Figure Studios

So, what exactly is the mechanism for older horror films to ever get watched? Can Cassie be convinced to have decade specific horror polls? Her polls always mix new with old, so older films always lose.

Joe

Get your point. And I mostly agree. But there's just soooo many movies she's closed off to all year, people go a little nuts in October. And Carly is just straight MIA. Lol. There's some repression happening on the channel and some are binging right now.

Chris Thom

Last Voyage of the Demeter is really good.

Richard Maurer

Silent Hill is pretty underrated. Have seen Phantasm a few times and still don't know what it's about. Curious if When a Stranger Calls would count as a 'nope'.

Chris Thom

Welcome! I vaguely remember 9. Could not for the life of me describe what it was about though. Something with anthropomorphic little burlap sack creatures in the future I think.

Chris Thom

By the way, Bob. Of all the horror movies you have on your list, I have ONE of them on mine! I really shouldn't be here in October, should I?

Clarence Newman

Recency bias is not one of my legion of flaws. On my "Want" list of movies Cassie hasn't seen, the decades go like this: 2020s - 3 movies 2010s - 12 2000s - 15 1990s - 33 1980s - 41 1970s - 29 1960s - 34 1950s - 16 1940s - 14 1930s - 14 1920s - 9 1910s - 2 1900s - 1

Clarence Newman

Creepshow is a good choice. A Quiet Place is a okay movie but sooo overdone by reactors. And, unfortunately would most likely beat anything on Bob’s list due to recency bias.

Richard Maurer

We can only hope.

Richard Maurer

I’d be in good company.

Richard Maurer

My first time writing on your patron Your content. is so fun I wish I joined along time ago.just a suggestions not sure if you seen them they’re not.super scary but good for Halloween.three movies you might find entertaining. league of extraordinary gentlemen stars Sean Connery. 2 Van helsing with Huge Jackman and Kate Beckinsale. 3 movies called 9 different sci fi movie with the voice of Elijah woods. directed by Tim button and a good jump scare. The last voyage of the Demeter. Good vampire movie

Taycarrat

OK, having read Bob's list, I see there needs to be some sanity injected here by a non-horror fan who doesn't know what he's talking about. Creepshow, people!!! (1982) Stephen King plays a grassy knoll! I would also suggest A Quiet Place (2018), but only to impress the ringers. I'd then secretly vote for Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein.

Clarence Newman

You do realise, though, that as soon as Cassie reads your list of films in response to Mark's "Romance Horror movies for February" suggestion, you're going on her Nope list alongside The Exorcist.

Clarence Newman

You know what, Richard? Those Hammer horrors you like so much might be a good shout for February. They do tend to have....ahem....romance in them.

Clarence Newman

The only thing I liked about the Scream movies was Courteney Cox, and that's only because I had an ever-deepening crush on her as she got older (which peaked with Cougar Town and her one scene in The Longest Yard.) For Cassie, it's probably a one-and-done franchise.

Clarence Newman

extra Halloween movies are the black phone horns ghost busters froze empire Repossessed slender man Halloween ends child's play 2 jigsaw the woman in black Daniel Radcliffe film ...... August Rush Mary Poppins Returns the Hulk 2003 and Last film is Any Given Sunday send Post to popcorn in bed

David

Frankenhooker is really a horror comedy. I just threw it in there because I thought it was funny, and I love the title. But since the plot (mild spoiler alert) revolves around a mad scientist trying to revive his dead girlfriend from hooker parts I guess you could call it a rom-com.

Richard Maurer

Wow, thanks Richard/Mike. Thats a good list. Some very good movies there. I’ve not seen Frankenhooker, never heard of it! Creature from the black lagoon is a classic and a favourite of mine. I guess there are romance/horrors.

Mark White

Solid list. THE CHANGELING is a favorite of mine.

Jere

Agree 100%

Richard Maurer

Nothing about Scream 2 makes me feel good.

Richard Maurer

As long as it’s the silent version with Lon Cheney Sr.

Richard Maurer

Agree. Literally heard a reactor say Scream 2 was a 'feel good horror movie.' Lol. Like a Dawson's Creek spinoff meta buddy comedy revenge flick. With some murder.

Chris Thom

this winner Halloween movie are Bad Moon the boy the concurring Annabelle Creation harry potter and the goblet of fire the purge the Winnie pooh blood honey Lucy movie ma movie an american werewolf in pairs hones send this winner movie's to my best Cassie popcorn

David

Start lobbying now. You might be able to get Phantom of the Opera in for February.

Mike Lemon

There’s more but I can’t think of them now.

Richard Maurer

Creature From the Black Lagoon.

Richard Maurer

Phantom of the Opera.

Richard Maurer

King Kong, until recently.

Richard Maurer

The Fly (86).

Richard Maurer

Coppola’s version of Dracula. And, of course, Frankenhooker.

Richard Maurer

@Mark - Tucker and Dale comes to mind.

Mike Lemon

My mistake. Misread the poster. I’ve edited my comment accordingly. Thanks.

Luke Godfrey

She's not watching Saw 3. She (or whoever) just goes to Google (?), searches for a movie poster, and uses the best looking one. It's not always the right movie, but close enough. Mistakes happen. Go by what she says/types not what poster she uses.

Mike Lemon

Richard, as I look at my list all I can see are literally dozens of additional movies that I would include if I took my time and went about it systematically. My guess would be that either of us could find at least a hundred or so titles to include on our respective lists, more if we included obscure titles (but great movies). The genre is far deeper in quality than non-fans give it credit for being.

Just Plain Bob

I'm confused by Cassie watching Saw if I'm being honest. It’s scarier than the Scream franchise so if she can watch that movie she can definitely watch the rest of the Scream movies. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Luke Godfrey

Richard you got me thinking! Is there such a thing as a Romance Horror movie? Or is that a contradiction in terms?!

Mark White

I Don't see that happening. There are still quite a few classic horror movies that wouldn't violate her rules that she could watch (things like the Corman / Poe cycle and the Hammer films alone could keep her busy for decades).

Stick Figure Studios

Nice list, and if I wanted to take the time I could come up with a list just as long but completely different.

Richard Maurer

If it's a podcast I hope they answer viewer questions. So curious if seeing all these movies changes anything about how she thinks in her day to day life. And which ones stick with her the most.

Chris Thom

I will be in the same boat come February - romance month.

Richard Maurer

For anyone that’s interested, here’s the partial list I came up with before quitting. I tried to stay away from Cassie’s no-nos (children harmed, demonic possession, excessive nudity). I could easily double this list just by looking at my personal collection of blu rays. And there are many that I deliberately excluded because they ran afoul of Cassie’s prohibited content (“Don’t Look Now”, “Re-Animator”, “From Beyond”, “Return of the Living Dead”, etc). Pontypool Terror Train My Bloody Valentine Romero Dead movies (original trilogy) The Howling Dead End End of the Line Hell House LLC Hell Night Friday the 13th (first 4) The Changeling REC Suspiria The Descent Fright Night The Fog Dracula Bride of Frankenstein The Wolfman Creature from the Black Lagoon Paranormal Activity The Haunting (1963) Phantasm Videodrome Candyman (original) Dead Silence Pulse (aka Kairo) Ringu Silent Hill Pumpkinhead 30 Days of Night Trick ‘r Treat Let the Right One In Anatomy April Fool’s Day Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon Black Christmas

Just Plain Bob

Since I'm not a horror movie buff, I watch very little of Cassie in October.

Ron Kitchell

@Byrd, good list. She has only watched two of these, some she will never watch. Sadly, most of these have zero chance to get 1 or 2 on polls next year. Cassie always throws in a few ringers to cook the polls, like Blade and Underworld, which are fine films but should be watched outside October IMO.

Joe

Oh boy. Saw is gonna be a doozy.

Sean S

Not sure if you’ve see the Never Hike Alone (Friday the 13th) fan films. They are actually better and the film in the franchise lol.

Dean Holt

Katie, That’s the perfect description of Now and Then…a female version of Stand By Me. It has all those nostalgic vibes. I watched the trailer for Indian Summer. It seems like the 90s version of The Big Chill or St Elmo’s Fire, but more on the lighthearted side. I love the cast…Bill Paxton with long hair! I’m definitely watching it some time this week. I’ve also been requesting School Ties with Brendan Fraser for a long time. I think it’s perfect for this time of year, given that it takes place on a school campus, but I’m not sure it qualifies as “tender”. It’s so good though.

Dan M

@Shehab: "Usually a very sensible guy." Well, thank you, sir. I appreciate that. As for this rare leave of my senses, what can I say? I guess (to quote another classic horror film) "we all go a little mad sometimes." ;-)

Stick Figure Studios

Simple answer: Because horror is the genre most likely to contain subject matter and imagery that Cassie objects to and, by her own free will and choice, has decided not to watch. And there is no double standard- she applies the same personal convictions to every genre. It's just that horror is the most affected.

Dave

I do hope "Saw" is an easier reaction for her. Her IT 2 reaction was uncomfortable for me to watch.

Joe

That would take forever to happen. I started to compile a list of recommendations for Halloween at the beginning of the month. I stopped after listing about forty films and gave up the effort. There is simply so much good horror out there and Cassie watches it so infrequently that it would take several decades at the current pace for her to run out of options and have to resort to her list of forbidden movies.

Just Plain Bob

@Stick You’re usually a very sensible guy but you’re waffling on this one. First of all, I don’t think anyone here has very little interest outside of horror movies. It would make absolutely no sense to follow this channel if that was the case. 2. This is the only month where she’ll even entertain this genre, so of course we want to watch appropriate movies. And movies that don’t belong to that genre should be very limited during this month. I’m not saying a thriller couldn’t sneak in here or there, I even recommended some. But when there are too many outliers, it’s only right that we say something. You’d do the same if there was a Noir poll or whatever, and the winner is a movie which has very little to do with that genre. This month has been bad, and that’s on her, the people putting together polls, and the people who voted for the wrong ones to win. It’s simple. Feedback is how you get better.

Shehab Dawoud

Here's the thing: What if she runs out of "not too scary" movies and the only movie left not being seen is her Nope list of demon movies like Exorcist and the rest? Hmm, it's gonna be a dead end channel for her if she stills says no and the Octobers of many years later would be pointless. My 2 cents.

Rene G.

How about no?? Let her watch

Rene G.

There are almost no horror sequels that are good, at any rate...

Byrd N. Hand

While I enjoyed the first 2 "Scream movies when they came out in my late teens, they just feel shallow to me now -- the third movie sort of being the straw that broke the camel's back for me. 🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

While I think "Duck Soup" is the Marx Brothers' most overrated film ("A Night at the Opera," "Horse Feathers," "Monkey Business," and "Animal Crackers" are all superior, IMO), I'd love to see Cassie finally tackle the Marx Brothers (Dawn Marie loved them), as well as Laurel & Hardy and W.C. Fields.

Byrd N. Hand

Usually it's a few days

JohnnyUtah

Dan, I've requested Now and Then a few times too. Was actually the first dvd I ever owned. It's a great ensemble cast/movie that reminds me of a female version of Stand By Me. Cassie and Carly would definitely both love. Plus I haven't seen anyone on YouTube react to it. Indian Summer also has a fantastic cast. Most people would probably recognize most of them. It has amazing fall vibes and a very sweet story. It came out in the mid 90's and just happens to be one that a lot of people seemed to have missed. Some of the biggest actors are Bill Paxton, Diane Lane & Alan Arkin but the whole cast is great. For the Evil Dead fans, If you keep an eye out you'll see Sam Raimi in a supporting role.

Katie Jackson

Ben must think she’s up to it, since he’s the one who recommended it.

Richard Maurer

That’s a new one, I’ll give you that.

Richard Maurer

I might have missed it, but when will Hill House appear on YouTube?

Michael@GetFitwithDogs

Now and Then…another movie that I have requested before and forgot about. A great ensemble cast of emerging and established actresses. Very heartwarming with a killer soundtrack. It’s perfect for Cassie and Carly. I haven’t seen Indian Summer, but I just looked it up and it looks really interesting, and perfect for November.

Dan M

Oh yes, Bob. I watched that one a couple of months ago and it's an absolute delight. One of those movies where the central character just hooks you from the first scene. Cassie will love it.

Clarence Newman

It is amusing though to think about, because Star Trek kinda addresses religious belief, in fact, is quite critical of it at points. As Gene Roddenberry wanted humans by this point devoid from such things. Granted, he had to bow down the studio on various occasions with it. Like, when they originally suggested they needed a chapel on the Enterprise, he flat out said "no it doesn't." However, he had to bow down to the higher ups who wanted the wedding scene in Balance of Terror to be in a chapel-like setting.

Chrissonator

I'd say purely on shock value, Human Centipede would be worse. Exorcist is just a scary movie about "possession."

Chrissonator

@Dan M - Pity about Exorcist. I mean, it's a fictional story, it's not real.

Chrissonator

I prefer the watch along approach, because I'm not always available if it's some live hang out thing.

Chrissonator

We have some sheltered people... lol

Chrissonator

@Rene - Saw X was amazing, goosebumps definitely occurred. lol

Chrissonator

Eh, the first one is mundane imo

Chrissonator

I agree, Saw is an amazing franchise from a story perspective.

Chrissonator

I hope so, literally the reactions I've been wanting to see... lol

Chrissonator

Lol Saw (and it’s many many sequels) is a real test. A perfect balance of liking it but also evenly matched against the theres-always-a-loophole-you-didn’t-see-coming writing of it. It requires a keener memory than you or I have, Cassie. This series and I deserve a binge rewatch

Mark Daniels

I can't wait to watch you & Carly experience a classic in "Arsenic & Old Lace"! Now if the 2 of you would watch "Bell, Book, & Candle" sometime between now & Christmas, you would make an old man's yr. "Bell, Book, & Candle" is a romance involving both witches & Christmas. If you thought Grace Kelly was beautiful in "Rear Window" with Jimmy Stewart, wait until you see Kim Novak.

Duane A Lavely

After Saw, you're gonna have to stop watching movies for a while lol

Milsr09

Joe, probably the same universe where Cassie watched the 1931 version of Frankenstein. Nosferatu is a very good movie, and Kat Watches Horror Movies reacted to it a couple of months ago, and it was a very good reaction.

Mark Vaderr

Movies from Carly's Romantic Movie List for Tender November! :)

Mark Vaderr

Podcast of Carly training to be a super spy? I joke, but I would totally watch a series of her taking high speed/performance driving classes, rappelling, sky diving, tactical shooting, hand-to-hand, etc. for the "bad-ass" side, then the dancing, etiquette, etc. for the "suave" side.

Mike Lemon

I'm so glad you powered on with Hill House. It seriously makes me look forward to getting through the week. That probably says more about me than it does you but extremely looking forward to the next 4 episodes.

JohnnyUtah

I'm guessing podcast as well. I can't imagine where they're going to find the time though as busy as Cassie already is.

Canadianant

I think his decline started when he began making fully CGI films and his career has never really recovered. I did like THE WALK and ALLIED, but THE WITCHES and PINOCCHIO were terrible. Never bothered with WELCOME TO MARWEN because I heard nothing good about it.

Stick Figure Studios

What is it that they're launching very soon? Is it a podcast where they answer viewers' questions or something like that???

AdrianaGreen34

The whole Ben did it thing is hilarious to me. For some reason no one has a comeback to that little fact :-)

Richard Maurer

Only the full reactions are currently available. Cassie has mentioned that she plans to finish full reactions to the entire series before releasing them on YouTube. She’s reacting to eps 7-8 this week, so presumably she’ll finish the series next week.

Just Plain Bob

Where’s episode 3,4, & 5 of Hill House?

Bryan Lennicx

Cassie mentioned that she’s gonna watch and post all the full reactions to the show first and then (presumably in November) begin releasing the series on YouTube. As I understood it, she’s gonna release the YouTube reactions with bundled episodes (don’t know how many eps per YouTube release).

Just Plain Bob

A couple more I'd recommend are: *Indian Summer *Now And Then Not really Romances but definitely fit the "Tender November" theme

Katie Jackson

Clarence, there was one movie I was trying to remember and I totally forgot. An Officer and A Gentleman was that one.

Dan M

@Chris - What? Amazon has it on DVD, Blu-Ray, and digital.

Mike Lemon

Idk if I missed something. But when is haunting on hill house coming on YouTube?

Samara

That should do it, Byrd. The word "lightweight", when applied to a movie, is pure catnip to Cassie.

Clarence Newman

lovely film, but an absolute nightmare to find and watch.

Chris Arthur

That's a sweet film.

Stick Figure Studios

That's not what I was suggesting, Michael! What you've just proven is that it's been so long since we last saw a Star Trek, even YOU have forgotten about it!

Clarence Newman

Wash your mouth out, Byrd! She was legendary in Chuck & Larry!

Clarence Newman

+1 for Lost In Translation (one of my favorite movies) +1 for Officer and a Gentleman

Clay F

@Joe - Chasing YouTube views is how you get burnout.

Mike Lemon

Rene, I think you flunked the assignment

Katie Jackson

I don't believe for one minute Cassie is driven by monetary gain, V. Maybe to begin with, but now her channel is globally phenomenized, she can afford to relax. She's watched plenty of content that hasn't drawn flies on Youtube, but she more than makes up for it with the bigger films she watches. Our job is to suggest films to her that she cannot and should not ignore (Officer and a Gentleman), while warning her off such heinous violations to the cinematic soul as Antichrist and Howard the bleedin' Duck. As for the patrons who won't consider movies made before 1990, Byrd - a pox on them and their inability to engage with a movie if it doesn't contain CGI and spandex. They are depriving our precious popsicle of some truly joyous experiences.

Clarence Newman

Katie, agree. I really liked Adventureland. Captured the time well. Kristen Stewart was good.

Clay F

Any movie with Sellers as Clouseau is worth watching. One of the funnies characters in movie history

Bill Maurer

Poltergeist was not a slasher film but more intense shocking scenes. Saw has even more intense shocking scenes. I don't want to give away too much

Bill Maurer

@Stick - What you’re basically saying is why should horror fans try to get what they want, as if you and every other person here isn’t doing the same. Except the rest of you don’t have people actively trying to keep that from happening. Please, if you don’t like our posts then don’t read them.

Richard Maurer

Do the water reflections in Beowulf count, maybe?

Ricardo Rodriguez

You make a valid point as usual, Byrd, given that The Exorcist is on Cassie's "Nope" list because of her three major strikes - demonic possession, a kid being abused and a kid acting weird and scary - and ALL THREE are present in The Shining! I can only think that a) the child abuse bit in The Shining is implied rather than real, therefore pretty easy to take, and b) she watched it 3 years ago and maybe back then was trying a lot harder NOT to say no to the diffficult stuff. Nowadays she knows what she wants and what she doesn't. Her entire family and circle of movie reviewer friends, not just her patrons, warned her off The Exorcist right at the start, and once she knew the content, it imbedded in her soul as a firm Nope. Comparing the two films directly, The Shining is about the slow descent of a man into madness and derangement, with his wife and kid struggling to avoid the consequences - most of which they manage to do. The Exorcist showcases the intense, relentless, often graphic, demonic abuse of a minor, where the young actress who played Regan (Linda Blair) was asked to do some pretty jaw-dropping stuff for a 14 year old. You and I can handle all that with no problem (you more than me), but to Cassie, it really is a rock she does not want to look under. I'm sure, after all the hard stuff she's watched already, she's plenty tough enough to take the blood and gore of The Exorcist. But the content and focus of it would offend her to the depths of her tender soul and that's what makes it a step too far. I got nothing else beyond that. I realise it's all going to sound pretty dramatic and over-protective to a hardcore horror fan, Byrd, but it's my best shot at an explanation.

Clarence Newman

Tender November recommendation: “The World’s Fastest Indian.” It’s uplifting, fun and (best of all) true. A great movie.

Just Plain Bob

So her husband Ben then? 🤨 This was his suggestion. The original saw is far tamer than most people remember.

Canadianant

I loved Adventureland. Definitely has some very serious moments mixed in there. It has a very nostalgic feeling to

Katie Jackson

"why can't you accept the opinions of those of us who think it looks like child's play" Because that means exactly nothing. Cassie has repeatedly said it is a hard no, that is the end of the discussion for her channel.

Mike Lemon

Whomever is getting her to watch SAW... you need your head checked. She wants to expand her film experience and be delighted - not be traumatized for life by watching "torture porn".

MrTickleTrunk

Robert, I enjoyed your post and hope it gets a reaction at some point. That said, could you please remove the spoilers from the follow up post? It would be a shame if Cassie should see them and it affects a future reaction.

Just Plain Bob

Let's clone her

V M

and they are missing out big time.

V M

She's too wrapped up in the monetary aspects of the channel?

V M

The missing footage was, from what I'd heard and/or read, stored in a salt mine somewhere in Eastern Europe and was somehow accidentally destroyed. However the damage occurred, the extra footage is completely unrecoverable.

Robert N Douglass

Precursor to the upcoming Warhammer 40K Cinematic Universe, according to popular opinion. Easily fits into the Cosmic Horror genre. It's about an experimental FTL ship that goes missing around the orbit of Neptune and reappears seven years later, triggering a rescue mission accompanied by the ship's traumatized builder (played by Sam Neill). Apparently the ship went to Hell (or the Warp/Immaterium, depending on your perspective) and came back with a malevolent life force that wants a new crew to take back to Hell/the Warp/the Immaterium

Robert N Douglass

I've only seen it once and it was so long ago that all I remember is the ending. That's why I didn't recommend it.

Katie Jackson

Mark, I agree that Event Horizon doesn’t quite hit that sweet spot. I’ve heard for years that there was additional footage that was excised at the insistence of the studio. Supposedly, the missing footage would transform it into the film I think we both wish we’d gotten. That said, I still think it’s a well done, fun, scary movie.

Just Plain Bob

Stranger, amen about the chair. It feels like something that got drawn up for possible set design concepts and appealed to the set designer or director. At any rate, it somehow hung on, even when it became evident that it was about as impractical a choice as one could make. Every time he sits in it, he looks extremely uncomfortable, not to mention worried that the damn thing might choose this occasion to finally collapse with him in it.

Just Plain Bob

To be fair their are two camps in the Friday the 13th franchise. Some think the first one is a great stand alone, and then there are people that say Jason doesn't hit his stride until #4

Todzilla

Yeah, after frequently hearing that even the first "Friday the 13th" movie really isn't that great, I can't help but wonder why people even decided to bother elevating the franchise when there are the more-defined-from-the-start "Halloween" and "Nightmare on Elm Street" franchises. 🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

I think that would've been more fitting for October...

Tyler Foster

Okay, you do you.

Richard Maurer

It's about self discovery, will power, and the human condition....not self inflicted torture. 😂😂

Chris Retzlaff

Yeah, now that it’s been decided I’ m looking on the bright side, it should be an entertaining reaction, at the very least.

Richard Maurer

I didn't list "Trail of the Pink Panther" because it was released after Sellers' death and was basically just a patchwork effort on Blake Edwards' behalf.

Byrd N. Hand

Given that this is the only month of the year that Cassie is willing to even remotely subject herself to the horror genre, can you really blame them? I'm definitely not the biggest horror fan in the world (for me, the genre peaked from the late '60s through the mid-'80s), but I can definitely empathize with being frustrated with all the very safe, middle-of-the-road suggestions for October that people keep offering her. If she *really* wants to keep expanding her cinematic horizons, as she's claimed in the past, she wouldn't be willing to limit herself to *any* genre, as far as I can see it. 🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

The movie did nothing for me. 🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

Biel can't act to save her life. She should thank her lucky stars that she's hot. 🤐

Byrd N. Hand

If you want a theme week with Howard the Duck there's always Duck Soup (1933) and The Mighty Ducks you can put that week!

greggreggreg2000

It starts at bit more subtly in ROMANCING THE STONE and the BACK TO THE FUTURE series, but it hits critical mass in DEATH BECOMES HER (because of its theme of vanity) where it is all over the place. After that, they start becoming more conspicuous.

Stick Figure Studios

For me, the horror genre peaked from the late '60s through about the mid-'80s. "Night of the Living Dead." "Rosemary's Baby." "The Other." "The Possession of Joel Delaney." "Sisters." "Theater of Blood." "The Legend of Hell House." "Don't Look Now." "The Wicker Man." "The Exorcist." "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre." "Black Christmas." "The Omen." "The Tenant." "Suspiria." "Martin." "Magic." "Dawn of the Dead." "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." "Halloween." "The Fog." "The Howling." "An American Werewolf in London." "Poltergeist." The list goes on... "Splice" is the only horror film from the last 15 years that's managed to pique my interest.

Byrd N. Hand

self inflicted torture is NOT my way of entertainment. never will I watch saw

zynjams

Mr Hand, I don’t think I’m a pussie! Maybe a prat. Bit of a tit, defiantly! But not a pussie! My wife, who knows me more than anyone, does call me the most annoying S**t on the planet, but not a pussy! 😆 Anywho, I have asked for the Exorcist, some time ago, maybe Ben sitting beside her for comfort. But I know that wouldnt happen. I would put the Exorcist in my top 30 movies of all time. But I do understand why Cassie may not want to watch it and I’m ok with that. I’m just happy and thankful for whatever is chosen. 🙂

Mark White

I second this... and also suggest she just watch all the Sellers/Clouseau movies (minus TRAIL).

Stick Figure Studios

Explain it to me like a child, kaiielle: Why is there a general double standard for horror as opposed to any other genre?? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

Okay.

Stick Figure Studios

Relax, man, it's called 'taking the piss.'

Byrd N. Hand

Well,🖕 too, you bossy prick.

Stick Figure Studios

🖕 😛

Byrd N. Hand

@Byrd, Incorrect. Please see my above comment.

kaiielle

Hey Stranger, there isn't an official list. Cassie has communicated to her moderation team (of which I'm a part of) what kind of subject matter she wants to avoid and what you've listed is pretty much it. The Exorcist is a firm no, unless Cassie decides to change her mind one day, which is totally fine for her to do, but we leave that to her.

kaiielle

@Byrd: No.

Stick Figure Studios

Please stop replacing the 'v' in "Seven" with an actual '7.' It was purely a stylistic promo choice. 🤦‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

I used to look forward to it, but now I think I'm starting to dread October on this channel. Not because I hate scary movies (I don't) or because I'm a *sigh* "White Knight" trying to protect Cassie from going outside her comfort zone (I'm not) but because of certain "horror expert" patrons who seem to have very little interest in any other genres, so they pin all their hopes on this one month satisfying them and feel a tremendous sense of entitlement about not enough films in the roster catering to their own very limited, specific (and frankly, desensitized) tastes. Apparently not enough of the scary movies in "Scary, but not too scary" October are scary enough for them personally (though they clearly were for Cassie) so they have to complain. A lot. I've been enjoying this October for the most part myself, but I think I'll be glad when its over and I don't have to listen to any more whining about what a bad job this channel is doing this Halloween.

Stick Figure Studios

For me, the issue is still all these patrons who apparently had no idea movies existed prior to the '90s. 🙄🙄

Byrd N. Hand

No, it's just a bunch of overly-sensitive wimps who get off on playing guardian angel to Cassie, as if she were still 10 years old. 🙄🙄

Byrd N. Hand

And why can't you accept the opinions of those of us who think it looks like child's play compared to "The Shining," which she DID watch, Mike and Clarence?? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

Richard, I haven't gone very deep myself with "real" horror movies, but as for "Cassie-horror" (haha), I'm reasonably happy with this October, since we got "Saw", "IT 2" and Hill House. Haven't seen "Cabin in the Woods" yet, so will reserve judgement on that one.

Joe

Yep. As you've alluded to before, I have no doubt that a lot of these people are personally projecting their own anti-horror biases on Cassie. Just come out and admit it, folks: you're total pussies.🙄 Why is it seemingly OK to experience every emotion for a movie other than fear? And how do you not see it as a total double standard?? 🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

@Joe: Well, she wants to watch some of it at least.

Stick Figure Studios

@Mark: They really lean into the explicit violence in the sequels.

Stick Figure Studios

Clarence, the issue is always YT views, but we still have time for her to whittle down her top 100. And how long before we get "First time my Sister Watches".

Joe

Looks like we've got some great stuff coming this week. Can't wait. If we're doing Tender November suggestions, I'll go with Son of Rambow (2008). It's not romantic, but it is undeniably tender. A perfect antidote to all the stress and anxiety of October.

Ian Tonge

Yes, she could've easily packed it in after "The Shining." I appreciate her continuing to at least *slightly* push herself on this front, unlike some other reactors (I'm looking at you, Addie Counts).

Byrd N. Hand

It's well old, Joe. All black and white and stuff. Cassie can take solace in the fact that the scary-ass main character is long dead. Then again, being a vampire, he probably can't die and is munching his way through the population of Utah as we speak.

Clarence Newman

Not me, November will be back to boring romance movies

Rene G.

It's good, but honestly one of the most lightweight Best Picture nominees ever (when there were still just 5 nominees per year, anyway), along with the likes of "Dr. Doolittle," "Breaking Away," "Working Girl," "The Cider House Rules," and "Chocolat."

Byrd N. Hand

No worries on that, Joe. I have 223 movies on my list, and every single one of them is world class. Cassie will run out of popular movies about the same time Zefram Cochrane does his maiden warp speed flight.

Clarence Newman

Maybe next year if it could finish 1 or 2 on a poll.

Joe

A little worried for Cassie in this one. Who am I kidding - I'm worried about me.

Robert Nelson

Wild guess on my part...she won't like it (haha). But, it'll be an entertaining reaction for sure.

Joe

"What Lies Beneath" did nothing for me, but I don't think his real decline started until his alternate "Witches" adaptation, followed by his live-action Disney "Pinocchio" remake. "Here" at least looks intriguing, so we'll see how that goes.

Byrd N. Hand

The reaction to the Duck will be epic!

Joe

LOL, in what universe would Cassie ever watch Nosferatu on the channel?

Joe

I'd highly recommend *all* of the remaining 4 Inspector Clouseau/"Pink Panther" movies made in Peter Sellers' lifetime: "A Shot in the Dark," "The Return of the Pink Panther," "The Pink Panther Strikes Again," and "Revenge of the Pink Panther." While we're on slapstick, I'd love to see her also eventually check out films from Laurel & Hardy, the Marx Brothers, and W.C. Fields.

Byrd N. Hand

Eh. Human Centipede she can probably still skip. It exists for cheap shock value and nothing else.

Brandon Melling

The "easter egg" I am sure will be brought up by someone if it actually made the schedule... I would probably say something without giving it away if no one else did. I was a young kid when I first saw it and I knew there was something about that, but as I hadn't seen it reference it just passed on by until I did see that movie... the comments section will do it job.

Mojo One Thousand

Chris, with polls like she always does. Let the people decide!

Joe

Cassie never wants to watch any of this stuff, she just picked a profession where she basically has to, within limits of course.

Joe

What lies beneath you will love. Only little scary, thriller scary.

Wendy Smith

The issue is not running out of movies, the issue is running out of popular movies. Lesser known, older (pre-90s), and niche movies just won't get the necessary YT views. The clock is ticking...

Joe

Yes, I think Cassie and Carly would love An Officer and a Gentleman.

Stuart Guthrie Jr.

I got example of movies that's about mountains: Vertical Limit and The Descent!

Rene G.

Well here we are nearing the end of another Halloween season, a time of year when everyone becomes a horror film expert , even the people who claim to never watch them, yet suddenly know which films are “too much for Cassie”. So either you don’t watch them and don’t know what you’re talking about, or you do watch and don’t want to admit it. So which one is it? And don’t tell me you just happened to have watched all the horror movies you’re advocating against because I’m not buying it.

Richard Maurer

Sequel September vs The rom-com reality that is February? Hard choice, but as much as I hate sequels I’d have to go with them, because at least there are some good sequels.

Richard Maurer

I don’t think the majority of us “dark knights “ (I’m Batman!) would advocate for the really extreme films mentioned, in fact I made a post about their existence a couple of Halloweens back ( without going into details) and promised to warn Cassie if any of these films got recommended. And when Terrifier was recommended recently, I, along with a number of people , shut it down. Do I think these films will send herto a mental hospital or an early grave? Of course not, but some of them depict things that Cassie will not be able unsee easily. For the record I’m not talking about any mainstream film, like the Exorcist or Hereditary, but Cassie herself has put those on the no-go list, so out of respect I don’t recommend them either.

Richard Maurer

Superb list, Mark - even the ones I haven't seen or heard of. You've gotta trust a man who endorses Officer and a Gentleman, Cliffhanger, Coming To America and Lost In Translation.

Clarence Newman

Touching the void, what a film don't think we've have any documentary style movies on this channel yet.

Gray

And I am going to mention the not-mentioned-enough A Shot In The Dark. You liked Clouseau in Pink Panther, Cassie. You will LOVE him from here on in!

Clarence Newman

Hi Cassie/Ben, (yeah, I do feel I should address messages to you Ben, as you are as much apart of PiB as Cassie, but, just behind the scenes) Great line up as ever, looking forward to What lies Beneath. I think your reaction to this one will be excellent. Underrated in my opinion. Ben, look after your little magic munchkin with the Saw watch. Cassie may need a little intervention from you at some point during the movie!! 😉👻😱😂 Ideas for a softer November would be Officer and a Gentleman Lost in translation Coming to America Paul (Simon Pegg + Nick Frost, Hot Fuzz duo!) A random poll idea: Mountains? Any movie in the mountains? Cliffhanger Everest The mountain between us Touching the void Etc Thanks you Cass/Ben, your the best! 😊

Mark White

It’s is a problem! I wonder if we put a few drops of water on her, would she multiply into several more Cassies! 😂 that would solve the problem. I just hope Ben doesn’t feed her after midnight!!😂

Mark White

Couldn’t agree more. The first Saw is good, but after the first, that they become increasing ridiculous in my humble opinion. I like What lies beneath, I do feel it is underrated.

Mark White

After the first saw, they just become more gory and too ridiculous in my opinion. But the first one is good.

Mark White

Oh that's right! Where she's standing in the rain. That was a great image.

Chris Thom

I remember seeing Event Horizon at the cinema. It’s one of those movies, for me, which was a great concept for a movie, but just didn’t quite deliver. Good movie, but, just could of been amazing.

Mark White

YES to LL Vegas, Sideways, and Lost in Translation. None of them really match a holiday or theme though. Not sure how they'll get selected.

Chris Thom

Here's my Tender November for her: "The Seventh Continent from 1989 directed by Michael Haneke. Quite the family movie!

Rene G.

I'm still trying to figure out what the movie was about. Seen it three times.

Chris Thom

If I wanna break Cassie, I'd give her Exorcist, REC, The Descent, I Spit on your GRave, plus Human Centipede and Funny games 1997!!

Rene G.

Appreciated, my friend, although I think that last bit should be 'sadists', not 'masochists'. Also, with all due respect, I'm not sure how much I trust Ben. He clearly loves his poppet of a Wifey, but that doesn't stop him scaring the bejazzus out of her when he gets the chance. As for her brother, some of his suggestions (No Country For Old Men, There Will Be Blood) are just a grown up way of pulling her pigtails. All of which can be countered in November by some righteous Star Trek, so why should we worry?

Clarence Newman

Valid point. The channel always reminds me how many movies there actually are. A TON. Weird to think how young the medium still is, too.

Chris Thom

Kids being scary and weird: Example: Orphan, Children of the Corn, Village of the Damned esp. the Carpenter remake, Bad Seed, The Omen... Yeah I'm sure it's on the nope list. Funny and some comments from people tell me to stop deciding what she wants to watch. Wow

Rene G.

If you're looking for a comedy to help yourself recover from October, Cassie, can I recommend the much-mentioned A Shot In The Dark?😊

Chris Clarke

yeah pretty soon she's gonna run out on empty for those movies. She has no choice but to go off the deep end: Example: Exorcist, The Omen, Human Centipede, Funny Games 1997, REC The Descent

Rene G.

She gets it requested a TON and she just says she won't be watching it and never will. Usually around Halloween. Something about 'protecting her soul'. It's actually the only movie I've ever heard her say she'll never watch. Not sure if there's an actual list.

Chris Thom

Think I know what you're referring to. Was thinking, wait is that true? Did a little research and it is. On screen anyway. Apparently he had a book series with his name on it where it's not true though.

Chris Thom

I saw The Walk in 3D IMAX when it came out and I have to say that when he walked out on that wire my palms were sweating, same as when I saw Free Solo in theaters 😂 I don't remember much else about what I thought of that movie other than it was incredibly effective visually. I remember liking the documentary Man on Wire more though, but it's been a long time since I've seen either of them.

Stranger2Reality

That's interesting. It does feel like it could've been a short shoot considering the vast majority of it takes place in one location. Zemeckis will always be a legend in my book. Who Framed Roger Rabbit alone was an amazing feat. But he did kind of fall off. The Walk was pretty good though. Was probably cool to see it in 3d.

Chris Thom

This isn't really relevant to these upcoming movies, but I've seen people asking about the Exorcist a bunch in here and others have referenced that it's on the "Nope List" or something like that. Where is this list, and what are the criteria that makes something a definitive "nope"? I've seen conflicting explanations for that last one regarding The Exorcist (kids, demonic possession, strict religious objections, etc), but is there an official list somewhere? Or is it just stuff Cassie has discussed here and there in the past? Please note that I'm not trying to request that she watch The Exorcist, I just wanna see the "Nope List".

Stranger2Reality

You had me at THE PHILADELPHIA STORY.

Mike LL

Coming To America has been waited on for so long that the "in joke" tied to a certain movie already viewed might escape her.

Mike LL

This is just a guess on my part, but I think he became more focused on the technology used in filmmaking as opposed to the storytelling (or acting or characters, etc). He was always someone who pushed the envelope, technologically, at least since Back to the Future and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He really ramped things up with Forrest Gump, with inserting him into old historic footage, and then kept going with stuff like the mirror shot in Contact, and the through the floor shot in What Lies Beneath. After Cast Away, he abandoned traditional filmmaking and went fully all in on motion capture, which resulted in The Polar Express, Beowulf and then A Christmas Carol. But his studio basically collapsed after the disastrous Mars Needs Moms, and he was forced to return to more "traditional" filmmaking. But he still heavily relied on technological tricks, with the 3D stuff in The Walk, and the dolls come to life in Welcome to Marwen (one of the stranger films I've ever seen). His newest movie, Here, again seems like it's going to heavily rely on a visual gimmick, as the entire film supposedly will be shot from one locked off camera angle in one spot, going back to the dawn of time, but with that spot eventually having a house built on it, and witnessing decades in the life of a family seen entirely from the vantage point of their living room. I'm no longer very hopeful with his movies, so I'm not even sure if I'm going to see Here. I'll probably wait and see what the reviews are like.

Stranger2Reality

Actually the third strike is excessive nudity, but you are right The Exorcist scores on the first two and will never be seen. People should accept.

Mike LL

Hard agree on the down turn in quality from Zemeckis. I genuinely don’t know what happened to him considering he turned out quite a few decent films. Did he just stop trying?

D

Most of that questionable acting comes from Leigh Whannell who also wrote the film and would later go on to write and direct The Invisible Man.

D

Some of the acting in Saw is a bit wooden but still a decent movie

D

Clarence, the Texas Chainsaw remake is, indeed, quite gory. So is Tobe Hooper’s own follow up to his seminal classic. In fact, Texas Chainsaw II (1986) has been referred to as Grand Guignol, a well deserved description. But the first one is virtually gore free - but incredibly intense with some nightmare imagery and a terrifying concept at its core. As for the white knightery, I fully agree that no one should pressure Cassie into watching movies that contain content she finds objectionable (harming children, demonic possession, etc). If you search every Scary But Not Too Scary forum thread, you’ll find that I have never, not once, advocated for Cassie to watch a movie that violates her personal edict regarding no-nos (“The Exorcist”, “Hereditary”, etc). But I do think it’s ridiculous when people try to “protect” her from films she’s fully willing to watch. Time and again, white knights have attempted to scare Cassie off from watching “The Fly”, “The Thing”, etc, saying such movies will scar her. If she’s put a film on the schedule or in a poll, that means she and her inner circle have made the determination that it’s something she is willing and able to watch and react to. We should respect that the same way that we should respect that there are films on her “no watch” list. Yet, in this very thread there are those saying that “Saw” is too much for her and that it will “break” her. They literally believe they know better than she and her husband (who has recommended the film to her for years) do about what she can handle. That’s a level of hubris that’s truly breathtaking. All that said, I appreciate your approach to the discussion. You’ve always been a gentleman on these threads and I respect your perspective even if we do disagree from time to time. Frankly, it gets a little tiresome seeing other white knights accusing us “dark knights” of being sadists with no regard for other people’s mental well being.

Just Plain Bob

Personally think the first one is the best in the franchise. Just think it has a better story, where as the other are just trying to out do the previous one and I just got bored of them after the 3rd or 4th one. As I just think most of the others just feel like the same film and if you show me a scene from any of the sequels I probably wouldn’t have a clue which one it is. All though I did like the last film as it felt a bit like the first movie. I’m not saying the first one is as bad as something like The Terrifier for gory but it does have its moments.

Dean Holt

@Clarence - (spooky voice) Sequel September... (shudder) The horror. THE HORROR!

Mike Lemon

Interesting tidbit about What Lies Beneath is that Zemeckis filmed it in the middle of filming Cast Away. In Cast Away there is a break where it jumps forward 4 years, and so they needed to shut down production so Tom Hanks could lose a bunch of weight. But rather than risk losing the crew he'd used for the first half of the movie by ending the production like that, Zemeckis instead used them to immediately just go film What Lies Beneath. Then once that was all finished, and Hanks had lost all the weight for the second half of that movie, they all went back and finished filming Cast Away. Pretty cool as I think those are both great films, albeit very different ones. That was, unfortunately, basically the end of Zemeckis as being a quality filmmaker, as just about everything since has been either forgettable or downright bad. But maybe his new movie Here will be good when it comes out.

Stranger2Reality

Same. What Lies Beneath is a great horror movie, while Saw is not, not at all.

Stranger2Reality

Next time you watch that movie, remember to pay special attention to Lawrence Fishburne's hilariously impractical chair which dangles from the ceiling for some reason. Any time he's sitting in that thing and slowly moving it around the room or turning it to talk to someone, I burst out laughing. One of the strangest set design choices I've ever seen in a movie.

Stranger2Reality

I joke, but at the same time Cassie I've got to say it ..........................ARE YOU NUTS, YOU'RE GONNA REACT TO SAW?😱😱😱 I'm sorry but that's a movie franchise I refuse to watch, there are violent and gory movies that I can handle, but that one is a big "no no" for me! I've seen some scenes of its gore and I nearly 🤢 because it looked so real, you must be more braver than I am, I wish you luck lol! WHAT LIES BENEATH however, that's a good one and so underrated, I will definitely watch that reaction! So you're going through with reacting to IT Part 2 eh, well I might as well participate in that reaction too because I'm curious to see how it ends even though I kinda already know, but if you get fearfully traumatized like you did in Part 1, that will be another reaction I could never bare to see again, can't help it Cassie, you're just such a kind hearted soul and to see you scared out of your whits just breaks my heart 💔 just to show you I care lol! ZOMBIELAND DOUBLE TAP was fun, I'm gonna have to pass on THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, not that I'm afraid of it, it's just not my cup of tea, I would give my opinion, but I don't want anyone on here bashing at me for critisizing a movie I haven't seen before! Ugh, I can't believe you're gonna react to HOWARD THE DUCK, good luck with that one! No I haven't seen you or Carly's Instagram post, honestly I hardly ever use it, sorry lol! But I am curious to know what's going on lol! Please don't misinterpret my words Cass, I'm in no way bashing at you for your choices of movie reactions this Halloween season, there's just some horror flicks that I just can't handle, and I'm more concerned for your well-being that's all! I will always and forever remain a loyal fan/supporter of your channel, and friend no matter what! These past 3 years since I found your YT channel has been a fun ride and a blessing for my life, and I'm not stopping this fun train anytime soon lol! Hope your son had a wonderful birthday, love and support always, you and Carly are the best, and God bless y'all and the family🥰😇🙏🤗😁😉👍✌🌹

Wesley White

Never happening, Wesley. The Exorcist isn't just ON Cassie's "Nope" list, it's a founder member. The three strikes are "Demonic possession", "Kid being abused", and "Kid being scary and weird". Nope. Nope. Nope.

Clarence Newman

She has constantly said that The Exorcist is a 'no', why can't people accept that?

Mike Lemon

Mike Lemon could think of something scarier.

Clarence Newman

She promised us that one in September.

Clarence Newman

And it's next in line on the Trek carousel! If I was Cassie, I'd be slotting it in!

Clarence Newman

@David Freeze, I would tell you how it's gory, but I already had people jump up my nose for "spoilers" for saying part of the movie took place in a room and that some people liked the ending, so I'm sure they'd have a conniption if I detailed the gory scenes in Saw. It's widely considered one of the movies that kicked off the "torture porn" subgenre, so even if the sequels got gorier, the original definitely had its ick-inducing parts. Some of these were maybe "theater of the mind" the way Se7en is as well, but it probably will not be an easy watch for Cassie. My bigger issue with her watching it is that it's pointless to make her sit through something like that when the movie isn't even good to begin with. Better to have her watch the icky movies that actually are legitimately good and have something to say (like The Fly), than just gross brutality for its own sake.

Stranger2Reality

I see no OFFICERS! Or GENTLEMEN!

Clarence Newman

Wesley

As for Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Bob, it's been a long time since I saw the original, but I have seen the remake recently. Something tells me that the remake might be responsible for a lot of people's perceived opinion of the original, because the remake is WELL gory!

Clarence Newman

OK, here's a white knight's tuppence worth: Everything the dark knights are saying above is true. (And you know I use that term with affection, guys. This is not a roast.) We do like to protect Cassie from stuff we think will hurt her, but hopefully most of us aren't too ridiculous about it. I would defend her from The Exorcist and Human Centipede and A Serbian Film (Thanks Richard) and all other films that violate the main Nope Tropes she's clearly laid out as conditions of her channel content. Anything outside of that is fair game and why shouldn't the horror fans (whether it's fantasy horror or real life horror) get a few of their favourite classics? I've been blessed with one or two Star Trek slots myself, so I'm happy. Direct response to Richard saying that most people exaggerate the scariness of horror films: Perhaps, but you also underaggerate the scariness sometimes, because you (and Just Plain Scary Bob) have the intestinal fortitude of the Black Knight from Monty Python & The Holy Grail. "Tis but a scratch!" you cry, every time someone loses a limb. Meanwhile, the rest of us are crying in the corner or trying not to vomit on the cat. Bob - The absence of white knighting on the Hill House comment section is surprising, because it's clearly distressing Cassie. I've dropped a couple of verbal hand squeezes on there for basic moral support, but as only the first two have been put up on Youtube, I don't really know what I'm commenting on. If I haven't got the DVD, I always wait for the YT edit so I'm leaving it to others for now. Once the other episodes go up, I might go all Riders of Rohirrim with my comments. Finally.....The Fly.....the one and only true horror film I've been regularly endorsing. Yes, I'm guilty of being a white knight, but this is October, and Cassie has chosen to expose herself to at least the Not Too Scary element of the horror milieu, and The Fly is one of the greatest movies (not just horrors) I've ever seen. And yes it has its gross moments, but Jeff Goldblum is BRILLIANT in it and while it will creep Cassie out from about the halfway point on and she may need a couple of episodes of Ted Lasso right afterwards as a cleanser, it's based on a RIDICULOUS, IMPOSSIBLE premise and therefore the discomfort should not follow her into her real life. Therefore, with all that's been said above, I STILL want her to watch it and hope she finds a slot for it this year. She won't particularly enjoy watching it, but afterwards, I believe she will be happy that she HAS watched it. The same does not apply to The Exorcist or A Serbian Film. I don't agree with everything Richard says, but he made a point a while ago that is absolutely true. Cassie's watched some real scary movies in the past three years and there isn't one of them she hasn't been able to recover from with a couple of light-hearted comedies or rom-coms. I will never enjoy seeing her distressed, and frankly, my Holy Grail on here is Cassie's demeanour and state of mind at the end of Eddie The Eagle - pure joy and satisfaction so she can float out of the room afterwards. I love seeing her that way. But if that was all this channel was, even I wouldn't be here.

Clarence Newman

I feel like the not too scary part might not apply anymore. 👻🫢🤣

YodatheHobbit

What Lies Beneath is so damn good, one of Harrisons more underrated roles, very excited to see that reaction.

Jasbro

Nosferatu 1922, Mark, yes?

Clarence Newman

OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN!!!!! CASSIE!!! OVER HERE!!!! WHAT CLAY SAID!!!! (I'm also endorsing Lost In Translation - though I can't believe she hasn't seen it - and Philadelphia Story.) Leaving Las Vegas?.....ugggh ....one of those really, really good films I will never, ever watch a second time.

Clarence Newman

A thousand yeses! Eddie's best movie.

Clarence Newman

Also Leigh Whannell wrote and directed The Invisible Man, which Cassie and Carly previously watched on the channel.

Aaron Ritchie

Wakka Wakka Wakka!

Ricardo Rodriguez

So true. Even in WLB.

Ricardo Rodriguez

Love What lies beneath. Saw not so much

Jeanette

Where's the lol button

pkleo73

Saw the first insidious like 2 months ago, and just saw the first two conjurings tonight for the first time. I will say they are 3 of the most fd up movies I've seen in a bit. I found them quite entertaining.. lol.

pkleo73

I recommend that to everyone lol. Love it. Terrified me when I first saw it

pkleo73

Wait .. you've never seen Saw? Oh ..

pkleo73

So many movies, only one Cassie. It's a problem.

V M

Except there is one element in it that you would never find in a Hitchcock film... though Iwon't say what it is and spoil it.

Stick Figure Studios

Fantastic list Katie. I am so ready for some romcoms and heartwarming films. I have several of the movies you’ve listed on my request list. Respectfully, I’d like to offer a few more: She’s Having a Baby Chances Are Tootsie Sixteen Candles Heaven Can Wait Seven Brides for Seven Brothers Moonstruck He Said, She Said Regarding Henry Bring on Tender November

Dan M

Zemeckis loves mirror shots. You can see them all over his filmography.

Stick Figure Studios

Well, this should be interesting. I think you will enjoy WHAT LIES BENEATH. It's a decent Hitchcockian-style thriller (although there's one element in it that you would never find in a Hitchcock film) directed by Robert Zemeckis (BACK TO THE FUTURE, CONTACT, ROMANCING THE STONE, etc). SAW I doubt you will like. I thought it was a pretty solidly made and unpredictable mystery-thriller myself (though the sequels got increasingly bad; I quit after the third one), but be warned: it is very, VERY gross. Those who are saying that the violence is more implied than explicitly shown are correct, but the nature of the violence is so sadistic and extreme that it is still very disturbing. Plus, the whole rusty/grimy aesthetic of the film will probably just make you feel unclean (I think the patron put it best who said it's the one movie that makes you feel like you need a tetanus shot afterwards; think SE7EN times a hundred). I know Ben has been trying to get you to watch it for a couple years now and I was one of those who up until now thought that you to couldn't "handle" it (as in, you wouldn't be able to make it through the whole thing). You might be able to now, but I don't think that's goingto make it any more of a pleasant experience for you. I can prime you that it will get as lot of views though (YT voters love to watch Cassie squirm). Anyway, good luck.

Stick Figure Studios

For November I will go with the suggestion I have pushed for a while "Coming to America". It ticks so many boxes for November, has a bunch of popcorn requests, and because of the recent loss of both James Earl Jones and John Amos

Mojo One Thousand

I'm so pumped about Saw. I can't wait to see what you think of it Cass! It's definitely not a Carly film lol

ROBERT CLARK

I watched Saw 2 when I was about 14, I am pretty sure it gave me a phobia from watching it cause my friends wanted to watch it. Wouldn't blame you for choosing to not watch these movies. Though I look forward for the Christmas Carols we will hear you sing, and maybe the rare Ben sitting just off camera.

Jakob Rygh

"Saw" was written by Leigh Whannell and James Wan. James Wan directed and Leigh Whannell stars in the movie and spends most of his time with Cary Elwes. James Wan also directed both the DCEU "Aquaman" movies. I think they are familiar with the Hammer horror stuff.

Mojo One Thousand

What plot or spoilers did I give away? That part of it takes place in a room? That there's a backstory? That some people liked the ending? You guys are being ridiculous.

Stranger2Reality

Both users and critics. What Lies Beneath (2000). IMDb 6.6, Metacritic 51%, RT 47% (audience 58%)

Clay F

Oh, you missed a chance for a cult classic from the 1990s. Who thinks Cassie should try "Event Horizon" with Sam Neill, Lawrence Fishburne and Joely Richardson?

Robert N Douglass

I seriously don't understand those ratings😳

BRT

Romance for November ROMANCE/DRAMA **Blue Valentine (2010) “… isn't always easy to watch, but Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling give performances of unusual depth and power.” **Leaving Las Vegas (1995). “Oscar-awarded Nicolas Cage finds humanity in his character.” Elisabeth Shue (Adventures in Babysitting). Not always tender but one of my favorite 90s romance movies. **An Officer and a Gentleman (1982). Richard Gere. Debra Winger. ROMANCE/WAR **Summerland (2020). Gemma Arterton (secondary Bond girl in Quantum of Solace) gives compelling performance. Set in England countryside during WWII. “There is something undeniably moving about watching a hopeful and kind film like Summerland.“ **Suite Française (2014). Michelle Williams. Set in France during WWII. “... an understated approach to its period romance" combined "with strong performances from a talented cast -- pays absorbing dividends.” ROMANCE/COMEDY **Sideways (2004). Paul Giamatti. Funny. “Charming, thoughtful." **Lost in Translation (2003). “… humor … a moving, melancholy story that serves as a showcase for both Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson.” **Adventureland (2009). Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Ryan Reynolds. Set in summer of 1987. “Full of humor and nostalgia … sweet, insightful.” **The Philadelphia Story (1940). Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart. **Broadcast News (1987). William Hurt, Holly Hunter. “… fully entertaining with deft, deep characterization.” **Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008) [Woody Allen]. Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca Hall [The Prestige (2006), Town (2010)]. The movie "charms with beautiful views of the Spanish city and a marvelously well-matched cast.” “The script is witty and playful, the casting just right.”

Clay F

That's a fun film! I'm going to keep plugging for "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" too!😂

BRT

I wonder if Carly would walk out if Cassie somehow tricked her into coming over.

Chris Thom

Would also prefer a hang out session. But before and after the movie is fun too.

Chris Thom

You are not gonna like Saw at all

Matt

What Lies Beneath will be a great watch for her, and I think Carly would enjoy too

BRT

Last year was Friday the 13 of October. That would've been perfect.

Chris Thom

It's perfect for Cassie

BRT

Forget which one had those closing concrete walls that smashed that detective. But that f'd me up.

Chris Thom

@stranger2reality I couldn't agree more. I think it's a film she will really enjoy.

BRT

Clay, “The Fly” is quite gross. I’d agree with Richard that it’s about on par with “The Thing”, although a VERY different film tonally. I don’t want to say anything that might spoil the plot, but I believe that Cassie would find the effects work to be less upsetting than certain story elements (nothing that violates her list of no-nos - children being harmed, demonic possession, etc). To my mind, “Band of Brothers” was more gross simply because they represented actual people that suffered actual horrific deaths. Like many horror fans, I find real life violence far more upsetting than anything filmmakers can dream up.

Just Plain Bob

I'm very happy we are getting one of my long time suggestions "What Lies Beneath". It's a perfect film for Cassie and I wish Carly would sit in on that one since it's mostly a mystery thriller rather than overt horror. What ever the case, looking forward to it❤️

BRT

YES. Thank you. Always liked that one. Good cast.

Chris Thom

Yeah well I went all the way to ten. Mwahaha. Loved it all. No turning back

Rene G.

The box office was good, I think. But yeah it got forgotten pretty quick. Personally, I loved it.

Chris Thom

Also Cassie isn't a poor child. She is a grown woman with 3 kids shes tougher than most give her credit for

David Freese

It’s on par with The Thing, maybe a little worse. I’m probably not the best judge, as I grew up on a farm and saw things all the time that most people would find extremely gross.

Richard Maurer

Its not as bad as you make it out to be. The original was a thriller and was at Sundance. The sequels are when they became a gore fest.

David Freese

That just reminded me that Zemeckis was the same director that put together that mirror shot in Contact.

Chris Thom

“Of course I Seesaw, me and Mose Seesaw all the time!” Dwight Schrute All I can think of with all the Saw comments https://youtu.be/19PdVWctKW4?si=4K1LL6c5cJivPqLs

Cole Jennett

I think James Wan did Saw. Same guy who did Conjuring, Insidious, Anabelle movies.

Chris Thom

It's been a long time since I've seen The Fly (1986). Question: Is The Fly (1986) too "gross" for Cassie, as some commenters here on the channel emphasize? I thought the multiple instances of limbs being blown off in Band of Brothers were fairly gross.

Clay F

@Chris Thom Anywhere but Here

Cole Jennett

Thanks guys.

Clay F

It’s no more a horror film than Se7en or Silence of the Lambs. It’s a suspense thriller.

Richard Maurer

Making people watch rom-coms is cruel.

Richard Maurer

No it won’t, not even a little.

Richard Maurer

Scream 1 is bad, the sequels are just more of the same.

Richard Maurer

Not all sequels are bad, just like 95% of them.

Richard Maurer

Add Saw to the list of movies that never needed a sequel. Most sequels only serve to tarnish the original film’s legacy. While this is true of any genre it is especially true of the horror, action, and comedy genres.

Richard Maurer

lol.

Richard Maurer

In some ways, it’s like the original “Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” The name, the intensity of the film and its reputation led people (including many who saw it) to believe it’s a gory movie. People projected what they EXPECTED to see onto their actual experience of watching the film. But it’s not gory. Neither is “Saw.” But it is intense, has a name that’s lends itself to lurid mental images and has attained a reputation far out of proportion to the reality of the film (in terms of gore). It’s not even a horror movie. “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” is a straight up horror film as opposed to “Saw”, which is a well made, low budget thriller. But the point is there’s a big difference between the implied violence/gore and the actual onscreen violence/gore in both films.

Just Plain Bob

I’ve been giving Saw a pass because it’s a pretty good movie, but it’s definitely not a horror movie, let alone a gory or scary one.

Richard Maurer

@ Rene - You’re right, the first Friday the 13th movie sucks even more than the sequels.

Richard Maurer

Scary is relative. For me nothing’s scarier that the words “ let’s watch a rom-com!”.

Richard Maurer

Yeah, Ben has wanted this for some time, yet no one is forcing Cassie to watch. Remember, Cassie chose to watch "IT" last year. No one forced her to.

Mark Vaderr

Wonder if the person who thought up SAW grew up on Hammer Horror movies?🤔 In which case, maybe the sequel should have been called CHISEL?😜

Chris Clarke

Saw does have Wesley from Princess Bride. " I want you to Saw off a body part." " As you wish."

Ricardo Rodriguez

Sorry, I’ve seen that movie a number of times. The gore is implied rather than shown . Cassie has seen much worse - particularly in some of the war movies she’s watched.

Richard Maurer

Yeesh! No thank you. Overrated movie.

Mark Vaderr

One must assume Novemeber will be when Cassie will...ENGAGE... the rest of the TNG films.

Ricardo Rodriguez

To be fair, in previous Octobers, Cassie has watched a good amount of big title horror movies already. Yes, she could watch more, and movies like "Blade" and "Constantine" are not exactly horror films. Neither is "Underworld". There are other good horror movies out there that Cassie could watch, and she probably will. Just have to wait and see.

Mark Vaderr

I always play the theme when I file my taxes.

Ricardo Rodriguez

I would label the original Saw as gory. Its not purposeless gore and I think Cassie will handle it just fine. But definitely gory in my book.

My_Cousin_Mose

Very Good together. I think the movie is criminally underrated.

Ricardo Rodriguez

YYYEESSS! What Lies Beneath is so underapprecciated. Very excited for Cassie to watch. Zemeckis and team's camera work and blending of different effects is superb.

Ricardo Rodriguez

Nahhhh. Cassie's a trooper, and she enjoys this month a lot, even if she doesn't admit it.

Mark Vaderr

For November: I recommend Jeremy Irons' Dead Ringers. Best drama role for him. IT was oscar nominated for best actor too

Rene G.

LOL

Mark Vaderr

Ben did. Also, give Cassie credit. She chose to watch "IT" last year by herself, and she handled it quite well.

Mark Vaderr

I am hoping and praying that Nosferatu will make it in on the final week of October. I think it would make for a great reaction for Cassie. My hopes for "Night of the Living Dead", "The Blair Witch Project" and "The Ring" has all fallen off to the side this October, I just hope that whatever is left for the final week of October, that Nosferatu has made the cut.

Mark Vaderr

Still moving ahead with Marvin the Duck 🤣🤣🤣. I almost feel bad, that you remembered that live YT pick. I liked the movie...but many have their opinions of it

Chris Retzlaff

It’s pretty clear that a vocal part of the community here simply doesn’t like horror movies, or at least not the ones on offer, and try to scare Cassie away by overstating the level of gore or how scary they are. Look no further than the comments on the reaction threads to Haunting of Hill House. It’s a popular series and, by and large, the white knights have left it alone. Probably because they like it. If they were truly concerned for Cassie’s emotional well being, you’d expect them to urge her to drop it - particularly after seeing her reaction to eps 3 and 4, in which she spoke about how tough it was to watch and even said she might have to abandon the series. Absolute crickets. They didn’t care. Nor, frankly, do I. Cassie’s a grown woman fully capable of making her own decisions without the white knights acting as though she’s incapable of deciding for herself what she’s willing and able to watch.

Just Plain Bob

I am Looking forward to November

Alex Gorell

Wow so many horror movies this is fantastic!

Danny

I’m not saying no to anything. It’s not my channel. I’m not the one trying to make her watch anything. I only recommend. You’re the one saying she “has” to watch sequels.

Dan M

I'm so excited to see your reaction to What Lies Beneath! It's such an underrated thriller.

fish_thefilmcollector

Horror was one genre I completely avoided for most of my life, I've dipped my toes in since, mainly watching alongside reaction channels. I remember when Saw was popular, but I assumed it was just another excuse for gore at the time and haven't made time for it since learning that isn't quite correct

Tringard

So glad Carly was able to join on Arsenic and Old Lace.

Joel Wayne

No one really pushed for it that hard. She just chose it. I think Ben had something to do with it.

Chris Thom

Oh it's my favorite horror movie.

William Bryan

That remake was solid. Jessica Biel nailed that role. One of the best final girls ever.

Chris Thom

It's very tense. But a near-perfect horror movie. If you like horror.

Chris Thom

The climax seems more gory than it actually is onscreen because it makes you use your imagination in a horrible way.

Chris Thom

Ok I see what you mean now. I think that's why its head and shoulders above the sequels

David Freese

Please keep an open mind. Its not like the sequels.

David Freese

It's supposed to kick back on sometime in November

David Freese

It's a bit on the boring side, yeah. That's kind of what I like about it. Very vibey and New Englandy for the fall.

Chris Thom

Pretty much and I liked some but others I thought it was too convoluted

David Freese

Definitely the first of its kind. The following movies kicked the genre over the edge.

Chris Thom

Totally agree Chris.

Dan M

Kinda off topic to ask, but when get into November, will you continue with your Trek reactions for movies like First Contact?

Christopher

Here, how about If I tell her to watch Human Centipede and you say no? yeah quite defeatist of your argument there!

Rene G.

From reading the posts a lot of people here either are misremembering Saw or have never seen it. It’s neither gory or particularly scary. I hope Cassie will come to realize some people here tend to exaggerate when it comes to horror films.

Richard Maurer

I heard someone told me that she shouldn't watch Terrifier or Hostel. Yeah, YOU are the ones making it for her then! And I got told that Human Centipede is a big no no to her. So much for that argument!

Rene G.

Give it a watch, Clay. It’s better than the negative reviews that it’s gotten. Ford and Pfeiffer are really good together.

Dan M

Michelle Pfeiffer is always beautiful obviously. But I really liked Harrison Ford in this kind of role. Thought he pulled it off well.

Chris Thom

Same can be said the lot of you to go, "STOP WATCHING HIGHLANDER SEQUELS THEY'RE BAD!" Touche!!!

Rene G.

Except me. I'm 100% desentisized to these gore stuff. I endured the Terrifier movies too.

Rene G.

Think she'd especially like One Fine Day, Hope Floats, and America's Sweetheart. Also that one with Natalie Portman would be good...forget what it's called. But she moves to Cali with Suzanne Sarandon and gets ready for college.

Chris Thom

This Economy has me Freaking the Freck Out. I know it will all work out; but man these numbers don’t make any sense. Hopefully, Cassie and these horror movies can get my mind off the Federal Reserve and the global markets.

Uncle Phoenix

I have not read one comment in any of these posts since I’ve been a member where someone said all sequels are bad. Stop generalizing. And for someone who keeps saying “make up your own mind”, you seem to want to make the decisions for her.

Dan M

There’s no comparing Saw to Terrifier, not in the same league gore wise.

Richard Maurer

Having actually seen Human Centipede I can say it’s not scary at all and there’s barely any gore. Other than the gross main concept it’s much ado about nothing.

Richard Maurer

I love sequels. Not Saw sequels, which I think are very bad, but sequels in general I am a fan of.

Walter

“Why I need to make her see sequels too”. And in your previous comment you said let her make up her own mind. Seems like you’re trying to make it for her.

Dan M

Scream 2 is one of the best sequels ever. And the meta discussion in it about sequels themselves is a fun debate.

Chris Thom

Well if you watch Saw, it might be time for me to try it

Tringard

making anyone watch Saw seems cruel.

Walter

Oh, I know. I’ve seen Saw (🤔) a few times. I was referring more to the idea of what’s happening than what is actually shown. The Fly is definitely more of a visually disturbing movie, while Saw is more of a psychologically disturbing movie.

Dan M

Yeah it doesn't reinvent the wheel or anything. And the twists won't blow your mind. But it's got solid direction from Robert Zemeckis, and good performances by big movie stars. I've watched it almost every year since it came out. Nice seasonal vibes for Halloween and fall.

Chris Thom

Or at least adding a spoiler warning?

Richard Maurer

If you can handle SAW you can easily handle Jessica Biel's Texas Chainsaw Massacre

William Bryan

Doesn’t matter to me when you watch horror movies just as long as you watch them.

Richard Maurer

Based on positive remarks here in the comments, I will watch the reaction to "What Lies Beneath" (2000). I don't think I have seen the movie. I rarely watch supernatural movies. I like Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer (I read she is good). Doesn't seem to be overwhelmingly popular. 138,000 users at IMDb collectively gave it an average rating of 6.6

Clay F

I am so there for Cabin in the Woods...heeeelllllllzzz yes!

Steve Mercier

The Exorcist is a movie she just doesn’t want to watch because of the theme and the content. She’s stated it several times.

Dan M

Gotcha. I missed that, thanks!

brismithejedi

Making Cassie watch Saw seems cruel.

raiden2

Based on what you say, I will watch the reaction. I don't think I have seen the movie. I have rarely watched supernatural movies, but started more with the channel. I like Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer (I read she is good). Doesn't seem to be overwhelmingly popular. 138,000 users collectively at IMDb gave it an average rating of 6.6 -- not horrible but not great. What Lies Beneath (2000). IMDb 6.6, Metacritic 51%, RT 47% (audience 58%)

Clay F

Because some of the patreons here esp. the youtube comments say those stuff to her most of the time. Example: Highlander. God, they're everywhere. Hence why I need to make her see sequels too.

Rene G.

Who said every sequel is bad? I personally like most of them, but liking them (and spreading the watching sometimes over decades) and sitting though months of sequel after sequel after sequel, and every reactor doing all those sequels too, when there are thousands of great movies out there just dying to be watched and reacted to seems like a waste.

Mike Lemon

Im sure a good part of it will be just hanging out and chatting before the movie starts. You could just join in until then.

Dan M

Last week in October not November

David Freese

Yeah, from what I remember, there’s not a whole lot of gore and blood, it’s more of what your imagination conjures up in your head regarding what’s happening on screen that really gets to you.

Dan M

I cast fireball at "tender November".

My_Cousin_Mose

Please actually watch Saw again! Its not that bad it doesn't become torture gore porn until the sequels. Its more thriller than gore. IT was alot worse

David Freese

Oh no. I think Saw just might break you.

Vwlss Nvwls

Cabin in the woods?? Yeah Evil Dead Trilogy already did that better. And this is coming from me who even liked Cabin. It has all the horror tropes in it.

Rene G.

Cassie, don't mind the guys saying "Don't watch sequels cos they're all bad" I wanna see you make up your own mind even if it's too much for a "one and done" when it comes to SAW franchise. Just continue the sequels esp. Nightmare and Scream. And if it's not your type then you can stop watching 3rd or 4th sequel OK? Otherwise, there's no point in variety

Rene G.

Spoiler alert!😄

Todzilla

How about letting her go in blind?

Mike Lemon

What Lies Beneath is a good Movie .And Arsinic and Lace Classic Cary Grant although,I don't think I have seen that one .

Tim C

Yes, to some all sequels are bad and are just one and done but let her make up her up her own mind since most people are tired of telling her what to avoid and such..

Rene G.

@Cole - Here's hoping. Not every franchise has to be watched in its entirety. Viva Variety!

Mike Lemon

She did mention she’d be watching Son in Law in November for a Thanksgiving movie.

Cole Jennett

Thanks. I was wondering.

Clay F

And I'm the type of guy who hates the "one and done" movie avoiding sequels cos lots of people hated the sequels. Yeah well, I'm the minority here. So, agree to disagree. But I'm gonna push her off the deep end!! Mwahhaha, I'm unapologetic in voting these gore porns!

Rene G.

yeah I hate youtubers who only do 1 movie but avoid all sequels cos "ALL BAD REEE!" fuck that noise

Rene G.

This is a great line up for the week. What Lies Beneath is such a hidden gem I think. Too many have passed it by. And who would've thunk it comes from the same director that gave us Forrest Gump and Back to the Future. Saw is a great little low budget indie horror. But if you like the first I'm not sure if I could recommend anymore of them, they seem to get progressively worse and more convoluted as the series goes on.

Blake Evans

Personally think she will find (if she watches it lol) The Fly I lot worse. Other than a couple of scenes I think she will be ok with Saw.

Dean Holt

What Lies Beneath is an all-time favorite of mine. A classic. It's not as well regarded as it should be. It deserves a whole lot more praise and fame.

Raymond Terry

Fairly certain it will end up being a one and done.

Cole Jennett

I think it’ll be her favorite movie of the month…so far.

Dan M

I love Saw.. I even Saw SAW X.. Quite good for a in betweener filler.

Rene G.

Add in City of Angels (1998) and Shakespeare in Love (1998). She has been arguing with herself to watch Shakespeare for years, she should finally do it.

Mike Lemon

Chris, I’ve seen it a few times, it’s not a horror film more of a mystery/thriller. But I’ve always thought it was a good movie. I’m interested to see what Cassie thinks about it can’t really say why as I don’t what to give away any spoilers, but I’ll mention it after she’s watched it.

Dean Holt

YASS FINALLY SAW!!! THERE'S 10 MORE SAW MOVIES CASSIE!! Let the game begin! Live or Die, Cassie, make your choice!

Rene G.

Cassie, I love that you think you have to apologize for being a woman with an active lifestyle, a husband, kids, a house, and a life. But there’s no need to apologize. I for one completely understand that sticking to a schedule is sometimes not possible. Life happens, and sometimes it puts a crimp on your plans. That being said…SAW!!! Yikes!! Not sure which movie would scar you more, this movie or The Fly. But I totally support your decision. We will collectively be hiding under the blanket with you for emotional support. Having Ben in the room may help also. Ummm…or not. What Lies Beneath…now here is a movie you will love. Not gonna lie…it’s gonna make the hairs on your arms stand at attention, but in the end I think you’ll give it two thumbs up. Can’t wait for It: Chapter 2! Will Ben be reprising his Pennywise impersonation? 😉 Scary But Not Too Scary October is beginning to pick up steam. And I’m here for it.

Dan M

Chris, my only memory of What Lies Beneath was being bored to tears and having to watch it in installments just to stay awake.

Just Plain Bob

(edit- contains slight spoiler) The difference between the two cuts is 24 seconds. It looks like "finding the key" is the only scene of consequence that is extended (about 3.5 seconds, but more realistic). Other than that it looks like the Uncut uses black and white photos, which I think is better stylistically. https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=176825

Mike Lemon

It’s difficult to say without giving any spoilers away. Maybe we can go back to this conversation after she’s watched it.

Dean Holt

My thoughts exactly! I'd lump this in with Panic Room and Don’t Say A Word with rewatchable Hitchcockian thrillers.

Zane From Canada

What Lies Beneath is a well done Hitchcockian thriller. Very rewatchable. Perfect for this channel.

Chris Thom

I'm all for the "Tender November" Cassie. The end of October is going to be rough and I think you should be able to watch some movies that are fun for you, a bit of a pallet cleanser 😄. I went through your Popcorn Request page and looked up Romance Movies for a poll. All of these suggestions say Unseen on your page: *Six Days, Seven Nights *The Secret Of My Success *One Fine Day *Some Kind Of Wonderful *The Majestic *An Affair To Remember *Kate & Leopold *Cocktail *Flashdance *Hope Floats *Where The Heart Is *Nine Months *Three Men and a Little Lady *America's Sweethearts *Love Potion No. 9 *Bed Of Roses *Yours, Mine and Ours(1968) *South Pacific *The Wedding Date *The Parent Trap(1961) *Look Who's Talking *Lady And The Tramp There are of course more to choose from but I don't like to suggest movies to anyone that I haven't personally seen. However, I'm not opposed to other people making suggestions on my comment. There's a mix of Classics, Animation & movies from the 80's, 90's & 00's. Just thought this would help since it's getting harder to find Romantic movies you haven't seen 🤣

Katie Jackson

How was What Lies Beneath?

Chris Thom

You've failed Rule #26 with a fair amount of franchises now. Just sayin'. 🤐

Byrd N. Hand

Maybe. If Cassie survives it.

Rick Williams

I think you'll like What Lies Beneath, Cassie. (No pun intended). A great thriller. Very Alfred Hitchcock style. And with Harrison Ford of course. 😁

Zane From Canada

She said something about releasing them on YouTube in November as one or two posts.

Mike Lemon

I also stopped after 4.

Chris Thom

What Lies Beneath is in my top 3 best horror suspense thrillers of all-time

RebeL LioN

you can handle SAW. There’s more gore in Hacksaw Ridge. It’s very tense, but even my religious mother was able to watch it and enjoy it. You got this homie.

djKENTO

Saw has one of the best "Gotcha" moments in Horror film history

RebeL LioN

Then you should give Saw a watch. It isn't what you think.

Mike Lemon

"Also did you see Carly's and my post on instagram?" No, but podcast???

Mike Lemon

I loved the first one. Liked the second one. Gave up after the third one.

Stick Figure Studios

You are on your own with Saw. I have no interest in a gory movie. I can do scary. But I like a story also. Not just gore for shock factor.

Rick Williams

The first one's not too torture porn-y imo. Although the sequels definitely do end up becoming that as they go on.

Brandon Melling

At the end of the day, it isn't my Patreon and Cassie can do what she wants. Im just disappointed that a Se7en knockoff got in, but a classic like The Exorcist is on the "nada list."

thevgman

Saw - the only film that made me want to get a tetanus shot.

T.J. Gengler

Aw man, so you have to be on the tier to see full reactions?

brismithejedi

She mentioned how busy she was, it’s only logical she would need to kill two birds with one stone.

Cole Jennett

@Stranger - How about not giving away the whole plot?

Mike Lemon

Yes towards the end but it still made sense until Bells character was changed to his appritences

David Freese

I saw SAW. I saw SAW 2. I saw SAW 3. I saw SAW 4. Then no more. They just got way too snuffy.

Zane From Canada

@Clay - The gore in Saw 1 is measured in seconds. Barely anything.

Mike Lemon

Tell me how Saw 1 is gory.

David Freese

The person who suggested Saw had to marry her, so...

Mike Lemon

my god saw why cassie why iv only ever seen 20 mins of a saw film and i will never watch any of them ever i would sooner sit and watch my most hated film ever than watch saw and how could you watch IT part 2 after what happened to you watching part 1 are you going to need your hubby again i think yes

scott osborne

she is watching them but not full episodes just what you see on yt

scott osborne

*grumbles something about First Contact being perfect for this time of year*

Laura Thornley

Saw is not that bad! Its more thriller than slasher film everyone keeps grouping it with the sequels that are gory

David Freese

can’t believe your going to watch “ Saw “ - or did you watch it already - sick torture porn .

(Nolo)finwe

Cassie, I am so proud of you. You have come so far since your first Halloween movies. Can’t wait to rewatch What Lies Beneath with you. 🎃 🍿🙏🏼💜

Tara

Its coming sometime today.

David Freese

OK, Saw has gotten a "poster", we're getting closer. And for all the faint of hearts, Saw (1) isn't the gore fest you seem to be imagining. There is barely any in it. Saw is basically Se7en on steroids, a psychological thriller. The sequels are a different story. Stop trying to psych Cassie out. And Cassie, if there was ever a movie that deserves two "final thoughts", it is Saw. Maybe think about doing an initial reaction, then another one once it has had a few hours to sit with you?

Mike Lemon

I know we all like different things, personally though Saw was awesome the first time I saw it. Just thought it was a good story and kept me engaged all the way through. I also found it incredible Wan made this in his 20s. He now one of my favourite directors in the horror genre.

Dean Holt

She posted the EP5-6 full reaction 16 hours ago on Patreon. It's the most recent post before this Upcoming post. Can you see EP5-6 full reaction immediately below? Do you have access to full reactions?

Clay F

Please rewatch the first one very little gore more a thriller

David Freese

Maybe next year

David Freese

Good suggestion.

Clay F

Neil Personally I don’t think the first one is that bad and I actually think it’s got a decent story for a horror film.

Dean Holt

Very little gore in the first one.

Just Plain Bob

The hockey mask doesn't show up until Friday the 13th part 3 though.

Stranger2Reality

2 kinda did also tho

Neil Varma

Yes it was Bill Murray and Garfield

David Freese

Yes, the whole Garfield 3 fake press junket.

Stranger2Reality

Cassie, “BELL, BOOK AND CANDLE” -a nonscary, romantic Halloween themed movie starring Jimmy Stewart- was just added to Amazon Prime Streaming! I think you and Carly would enjoy it (don’t worry, it’s not a screwball comedy like Arsenic and Old Lace.)

Patreot

I personally think she will watch The Exorcist before she watches Human Centipede. I get everyone has different options but I just can’t get on with that franchise. Managed to get through the first film and switched the second one off. I’m just not really a fan of the concept but I also think the acting is terrible as well lol.

Dean Holt

She should definitely see Manhunter over Red Dragon. I agree that I don't think Saw is really scary so much as it's gory. I think she should have waited a couple years for Cabin in the Woods, as it's mainly for people with a lot of horror movie references, but hopefully she enjoys it. I'm bummed she again isn't going to watch The Fly. She needs to stop pitting it against mainstream comedies and action films that aren't really horror at all if she ever puts it in another poll.

Stranger2Reality

Not the first one. Gory horror porn didn't start in Saw movies until late in saw2 and definitely in saw3

David Freese

Clay, “Saw” has some gore but it’s been waaaay overstated by some. Mostly it’s a mystery/thriller. Part 2 devolves into torture porn, as does part 3. I gave up on it after that. But the first one is a good little low budget thriller.

Just Plain Bob

From what I've heard, "The Human Centipede" really isn't even that scary; it's mostly just gross. "The Exorcist" is at least an objectively good movie... and I still maintain it isn't nearly as terrifying as "The Shining" (which lets your imagination run more wild), which she DID watch (and is one of the greatest reactions ever).

Byrd N. Hand

Saw doesn’t fit in the scary, but not too scary. I’m a pretty big horror fan but that series is a no even for me. Too gory.

Shad Kanyak

Four Weddings & A Funeral for Tender November

Respect the Cockerel

Yes, I beleive she did watch the post credits scene. Bill Murray?

Clay F

Go watch Saw again, there is barely anything in it.

Mike Lemon

Has Cassie watched IT2 or not? She said on the HH 3-4 post that IT2 would be posted tomorrow, which is now today?, I'm so confused (haha).

Joe

People forget Saw 1 was at the Sundance Film Festival and actually won awards

David Freese

Cassie, I won't even watch Saw 😄 I wish we could have traded it out for Friday the 13th. I mean yer Canadian, you should love a guy in a hockey mask!!

Todzilla

It really has been. Comic book movies took the place of at least two actual scary movies. The only scary movie so far has been Cloverfield and, frankly, it’s debatable whether that can be considered scary. At least Haunting of Hill House is good, if not a faithful adaptation of the source material.

Just Plain Bob

Doesn't Saw have more gore than IT? I only know what i've read, as I've never watched Saw.

Clay F

Bugger gonna miss the live now, oh well will have to catchup monday night

Gray

I haven't watched the full length yet so I'm not sure but ill give you an update when I am done with it.

David Freese

Untamed Heart has some cheese but I have nostalgia for it, watching it a few times over the last 30 years. Marisa Tomei is cute.

Clay F

All I know is that Cassie is subjecting herself to way scarier things then I would ever watch. 😱

Andrew Rose

Tell me how its any worse than IT

David Freese

Wow. This October has been a real letdown compared to previous years.

Brent Petty

Tell me how Saw 1 is that bad. Its less gory than IT and about par with Nightmare. People are bunching an award winning movie with its sequels. Also ben was the person who suggested it.

David Freese

Yea, Star Trek was my biggest attention grabber. Although, Saw will be nice to see. :)

Chrissonator

Okay, it looks like you're still reacting to Haunting of Hill House on Patreon, but where? I don't see them. Otherwise, it looks like a good week!

brismithejedi

SAW?????? God bless you sweet, dear Cassie ❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Bill Maurer

I’m depressed it’s another watch along and not a hang out

Rosario Cicero

I’m also assuming that that’s the case. I’m really enjoying the horror movies this October but it is nice though to have something else to look forward to at the end of the month. Can’t wait for first contact.

Cody Nelson

Exorcist will never be on the channel because of religious beliefs

David Freese

It part 2, saw, and cabin. This might be the last “scary, not too scary” month ever. 😀

JC762

Can’t believe I watched What Lies Beneath last week as I just didn’t think Cassie would get around to watching it 🤦🏻‍♂️. But it looks like I’m going to be watching it again soon that I thought 😂. I personally think Cassie getting through Saw will be easier than she thinks. As I don’t think it’s scary it’s just a bit gory in places. The Cabin in the Woods should be a fun watch though. But keep my fingers crossed for the Fly gets watched next year. I’d also love her to go back to the Silent of the Lambs franchise and watch Red Dragon or Manhunter.

Dean Holt

SAW!? 😆😆😂😂🤣🤣

Godzilla Jones

No worries about pushing IT2. Looking forward to Cabin in the Woods and the Hill House episodes. I think you are cranking out the content just fine. I wonder if Saw (2004) is worse than The Fly (1986).

Clay F

How did Saw get on here? Since this precedent has been established, how much would I have to donate to get Terrifier on here?

thevgman

It was suggested to her by Ben. Plus the first one isn't any worse than Halloween or Nightmare on Elm Street which shes seen already

David Freese

I don't think Cassie could make it through The Exorcist..

Johnny

The first one's not TOO graphic. That series definitely gets a lot more gruesome as it goes on

Brandon Melling

So happy you're watching What Lies Beneath. Such a good movie, i think you'll really enjoy. For "tender November", i think you'd really enjoy Untamed Heart or Muriel's Wedding!

Nick Ireland

Ah, well hopefully she saw that post credits scene then.

Stranger2Reality

Her husband

David Freese

Poor girl ain’t ready for this. 😂

Taylor Salas

Shes actually has watched Zombieland 2 already

David Freese

I was such a huge fan of Robert Zemeckis back then, and went to see What Lies Beneath on opening weekend and it was great. This movie played like gangbusters in front of a packed crowd, and I've always liked this movie. Very underrated creepy movie nowadays, a great Hitchcockian homage. I'm excited Cassie is watching this one as well.

Stranger2Reality

Finally getting to the meat of the not too scary season (meaning it is getting a little scary) which means we are getting near to the end of this month. Me and Cassie will be so relieved when it is all over! 😂

Mike LL

The first one isn't bad actually won awards it wasn't till 3 when it became horror porn

David Freese

What would be worse for Cassie specifically The Exorcist or The Human Centipede. The Exorcist is my favorite movie of all time and I have experienced the other twice.

Matt O'Keefe

Ben has been trying to get her to watch for 2 Octobers now

David Freese

My main complaint with Saw is that it's just not that good. It would have been better if the entire movie stayed in that one room, and thus it probably would have worked better as like a short film. All the backstory stuff about how they got there made no sense and took away from it, IMO. I remember seeing that at an early screening about a month before it was released and James Wan and Leigh Whannell were there afterwards for a Q&A and it was obvious the crowd absolutely loved it. But my friend that I went with and myself were totally perplexed, like "did we see the same movie everyone else did?" I guess the ending won everyone over or something, I dunno. I was also never a fan of torture porn, so maybe this one just wasn't for me.

Stranger2Reality

Wow. Saw... No Carley for this one that's for sure. You can never unsee what you'll see 👀

Vlad D

Extra Butter

David Freese

Can't wait for what lies beneath, since I found Cassie's reactions I wanted her to watch this. Her reaction to finding out the truth will be priceless. I also don't think Cassie should watch Saw, the first one is pretty tame but wouldn't recommend the others.

David Kent

I can’t believe your gonna watch saw! 😳😳😳

Taylor Salas

What tier is the watch along?

Scott Macaulay

Sub The Fly in for SAW 🤞🏼

Philip G.

There are rated and Unrated versions of Saw. I don't think it will make that much difference but I definitely would advise you to watch the Rated version, haha. That said, for the most part, I think Saw gets into your head and seems a little more graphic than it actually is, although it is definitely an R-rated horror movie. Also, I don't know if "tender" is quite the word I would use for it, it's a little more screwball than that, but just want to mention again that while the holidays don't play a major role in the movie, Moonstruck is a rom-com that's set around Christmas...I'm telling you, you and Carly will love it...

Tyler Foster

Oh jeez...SAW?!?! Avert your eyes sweet innocent child

Jeff Vargas

Hooray for "What Lies Beneath!" That's been my number 1 most wanted PiB horror reaction since the beginning of the Scary But Not Too Scary cycles.

Jorge Gamboa

I know, waiting so much for First Contact.

Robert Durant

Be sure to watch through the end credits for Zombieland 2, as the best part of that movie is the post credits scene.

Stranger2Reality

Did not expect to see Saw on here! Great movie that will blow your mind.

Cory H

I assume the TNG movie reactions will resume after Halloween? 🤔

Chrissonator

Omg!! So excited for What Lies Beneath!! Such a good one

Ryan Kerr

Ok who lied and said you could handle Saw?

aarswft

Are u sure.. saw can be pretty graphic. Remember Don’t let ppl bully u into things u don’t want to do

Neil Varma

Omg, SAW YESS.

Kyle
